  • SAW DOKEN UP UP FOR DIO - HOLY DIVER TOUR! GRREAT!!!

  • Reb Beach is so underrated... He is awesome :)

  • Reb and Roll!!!!

  • AHAHAHHAAH REBS WEARING SOME FAGGOT ASS MONKEY VEST WHAT THE HELL IS HE WORKING IN A THAI RESTAURANT OR WHAT!

  • @TheBestGuitarSoloEVR

He's got the vest, and you've got the brain, I mean, "the faggot ass monkey" brain...

  • What is this performance from?? A dvd? Where can I find this???

  • Reb Beach is spectacular. What a fucking kick ass solo. My God that was terrific!

  • @NajdorfB97 Hell yeah! I watched it like 50x in a row! lol

  • Dokken forever +++++++++++ Reb Beach the ANIMAL

  • Holy shit Reb can play....awesome!

  • Don has proven to all that it must be Lynch who is being retarded through all the troubles in Dokken.. They absolutely rock and George does not, and that is what is important!

  • @archivaltransfer I have heard and read that it was George who really wanted to be the frontman of the band!

Frontman for the Dokken band: Lynch?

  • Don Dokken did back up vocals on Scorpions Blackout Album...killer...Reb, sick, Jeff, Mick, all great musicians...

  • lead singer kind of looks like john connor only older

  • Pretty impressive solo, but after seeing guys like McLaughlin play 200 notes per second on a nylon string acoustic via alternate picking, I kinda agree with Al Di Meola regarding the "tapping is cheating" comment. But then again; try to tell Stanley Jordan he's just cheating ;-)

  • @TheTranslator100 wow he said that? I always thought the same thing because tapping is so easy it feels like u really are cheating.

  • @Corvidaecorpus "Al di Meola has said that sweeping is cheating...Wonder if Frank Gambale agrees on that."

Oddly enough, it wouldn't matter what Gambale thinks, because Gambale dosen't tap either lol

From my limited experience in tapping, it seems to be more tricky than difficult, unless it's Stanley Jordan style tapping. Playing George Benson type licks with tapping is amazing in itself, not to mention all the Jazz chord bullshit Stanley Jordan does.

  • @Corvidaecorpus "Personally I dont find alternate picking harder than tapping,"

It depends what kind of alternate picking and scale patterns are involved. Without serious practice, I was able to half-way learn the beginning of Eruption and Beat It in a week or 2. However, I've been attempting to emulate George Benson for YEARS and still can't nail that riff towards the end of the Breezin solo - not to mention his hard-core Jazz stuff. Benson is slower than Meola, but harder to copy, IMO...

  • @Corvidaecorpus "And maybe you should try to play some Rebs solos, they are not easy."

Eventually, I'll put more time into this tapping and Gambale sweeping thing. On this particular solo, the parts that seem the hardest is the tapping, which is almost the whole solo. His alternate picking stuff sounds pretty basic - at least compared to Jazz and Fusion guys. Kinda reminds me of the part on Eruption where EVH goes up the fretboard with 1 or 2 strings with a simple pattern.

  • @Corvidaecorpus "Some people just like more choppy sound (Morse,AlDiMeola for instance;)"

To me; both tapping and alternate picking sound fast, but alternate picking has more of the machine-gun effect, especially when done on acoustic. There are a select few who can tap, alternate-pick, and sweep at an equally high level (e.g. Malmsteen, Govan and Brett Garsed)...

  • These guys are amazing!!! One of my all-time favorite bands of the 80's!

  • 海外のロックヴォーカリストうますぎる、、、

  • Awesome job Reb.

Hey friends check out my video: World's fastest guitar player, NOT♫♫☺

  • Nice job by Reb, the master Lynch would approve.

  • @bluetiege I totally agree. Reb followed on George's work, added a bit of his own style, and took it up a notch. Kudos to Reb, and I think the Lynchmeister would be proud!

  • @CombatVet65 I think lynch would be hiding. That solo minces the fuck out of lynch's one whilst keeping the main themes

  • i was at a whitesnake gig when dougs guitar packed up, reb filled in with sum of the best playing ive ever seen. the dude is soo under rated

  • Dam good job Reb!

  • Sorry Reb but this is THE Lynch tune

  • This kicks some ass. I was a huge Dokken fan back in the day. Don sounds good here but not great. Beach is of course awesome and the band is tight.

  • reb beach is so fuken underated he could smash on any of these pussy ass guitar players these days so can lynch

  • Great

  • what dvd is this off of? gotta have it!

  • @matrixx29 Dokken's "Live From The Sun" in 1999. It's really good, go get it!!!

  • Reb is awesome, and i think Dons voice is holding up great, there are plenty of name bands out there dropping the tuning majorly and still struggling to hit the notes!

  • i love how the bassist thinks hes important lol.

  • @mkds1109 Dokken is a four-piece, he is important.

  • @mkds1109 That's because he IS.

  • This is AWESOME!! It's a pity Don's voice has gotten so bad nowadays. But then again the man is 57 so maybe it's not that strange..Anyway, great post of one of the greatest bands ever! Thanx

  • @cwbabee George HATES Don they can barely be in the same country anymore. I wasn't there and I can't speak for anyone but Don Dokken is kind of a pompous ass, but then again maybe George was too?

  • Reb Beach is a way better guitar player!!! I mean he stepped in there a fucking dominated that song even better than the original!!!!!

  • where is Lynch

  • @cwbabeee

    here in Alaska

  • Thank you, boys! You helped make 43 years in this fuckin' dump almost bearable.

  • DOKKEN! DOKKEN! DOKKEN!

  • Where is GEORGE LYNCH?I love him.

  • i like 80's heavy metal. it was still more fun than serious, not like trvv metal nowadays (with exception of course). it had huge amount of rock n' roll, which really counts, for me at least. and yeah, guitarists were BADASSES at the time. good to see that some of that music still remains.

  • Reb Beach is awesome but back in the day, George was the man!

  • can some one please tell me what drum kit this is? cheers

  • @middle2k6 he uses sonor now, i dont know if the kit in this video is sonor or not they dont do any good shots of the drums

  • Most Excellent ! Rock on Dudes !

  • This is a pretty old video, sadly Don is a fucking mess right now, his weight and voice :(

  • Hmm.. better than I thoght it would b..

  • DON DOKKEN ROCKS!!! HELL YEAH!!!

  • Damm They got better with age !!!!

  • to much finger taps. george only tapped a small part of this solo.

  • NICE SOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Reb was awesome live. I caught this show at the House of Blues in Orlando back in '99. No one knew what to expect from him, because they just remembered his material with Winger. He made a believer out of me and the people who went there wanting to see George. Too bad he didn't stay with the band that long.

  • After watching this with Reb and a few others with Lynch...I gotta go with Reb....

  • Reb Beach = HOLY CRAP!

  • Firstly, I love George's recorded work, I'm a huge fan of the first Lynch mob record and back for the attack was awesome. Not so much his live playing.

Reb plays with power and punch, his notes sound clear. Most importantly, Reb looks and sounds like a guy in total command of his guitar live. He is up there with EVH in his prime.

George live on the other hand, sounds like he might hit an off note at any minute, he plays lots of notes, seems like he's more concerned about hand position

  • Reb paid a great tribute to the Master!

  • Wow!!! Reb Beach is one great guitarist!!!!!! No, I'm not comparing him to george lynch!!!!! They both kick ass

  • reb is also ted nugent's nephew so he had a awesome teacher..george still will blow him away though

  • reb beach taps too much

  • reb got the worsest performance :D

komm on bang your head !

  • wow.. this is freakin' solid. solid. 100%. nice.

  • When did Reb play with Dokken?

  • his tone is fatter than lynch's, but I would have to say that lynch smokes beach in the solo department.

  • @noeltheshemale c'mon... Reb ain't tryin' to be George's *clone* ... Reb has a resume worthy of "standing in" for GL, but Beach wants his own identity... and all yer good guitar players "sound" like themselves...

  • @box1467 Yeah, Reb is a fucking great guitarist no doubt and yes, he does have his own identity. I guess I never really got into Reb Beach. And it was probably due to the fact that he was in Winger. Couldn't get into winger. No offense...but with songs like "She's Only Seventeen?" C'mon man...who'd want to idol that shit? Dokken wrote some cheese too, but it at least it was bad-ass cheese. With fucking great riffs and guitar playing.

  • I met Reb Beach when he was touring with Alice Cooper. He rocked even those lamer songs. He is one of the best 80s guitarists!

  • @dk7dk7 I saw him a few years back with Dokken and I saw him with Alice Cooper, also and he ripped both times. Winger was definitely commercial cheese, but there are some great solos on that album.

  • Reb was havin Fun lol

  • Great video but it must have been in the mid 90's because Don's voice has left him unfortunately. You can see in his recent stuff that he has to sing everything differently. He was a great singer in his day. I too was suprised that Reb Beach had to play 2nd fiddle to Aldrich in recent Whitesnake since he is probably a little more well rounded than Aldrich.

  • Dokken, Whitesnake, Reb rocks in any band.

  • Reb is awesome! Dokken is so underrated!

  • @codythunder Reb is underrated...

  • YES!!!!!

  • Best thing I've heard in a while.

  • drummer is fuckin' awesome

  • I just cant understand why Beach hadn´t played at least 50% of Whitesnake solos at the DVD show (Aldrich did 95% of the soloing). Both are equally MONSTER players

  • I disagree... Beach is BETTER than Aldrich. No question... Other bands picked up Reb Beach knowing he would pull off anything their original guitarist played.

Beach isn't my favorite btw... it's just an opinion. I still like Satriani... he may not be the fastest, but i like (most) his arrangements.

  • So your point made even more strange that Beach was reduced to a mere rhythm player in Whitesnake

  • @belchmelch ..youropinion Better than Aldrich.........NO WAY...lol

  • this is the music :)

    very cool

  • insane!

  • I was at this show, recorded at The Grove Theater in Anaheim. I remember they played their set and then went back and played some songs again so they could get btter tape of the performances.

    Yo!

  • I prefer the lynch mob - revolution take on this and other dokken songs then this original. I know I'm going to get into a lot of trouble, but I love the singer's lynch has picked more than dokken himself.

  • if you liked beach's guitar in this dokken song then you should really listen to the original with george so you can hear how it's supposed to sound.

if you liked this, you'll like the original better.

or there is no hope for your lack of judgement.

  • Ok... DD's voice sounds "great" if you compare him to Lemmy K... Nice that Beach can mimic a solo written by G.L. .... (is that a Suhr ? an Anderson ? )... heck, only Pilson and Brown seem to have the edge from before. IMHO.

  • Awesome vid. Great Reb solo, Don's voice sounds GREAT

  • @wasabifiend hey i didn't mean to vote against your comment completely agree w/ you. Reb beach is definitely one of my top 5 favorite guitarists

  • @wasabifiend more gritty than before

  • All the bad press about Don Dokken and how he sucks and so forth and then I saw this! This is really a fantastic live version of this awesome song! Top Rating definately!

  • Dude, this is 11 years old. Don could still sing at this point. I saw him this summer at the M3 Festival - and it pains me to say this because I am a HUGE Dokken fan - but his voice was completely gone. It was truly sad to see. Dokken has an incredible catalogue of songs that deserve to be heard - but if I saw the best that Don has left this summer, they are ripping people off to continue to charge to see them live. I kid you not.

  • totally agree. shame, he's all done now.

  • Yes, this clip was the 90s. Today Don's voice is now almost 100% gone. The next reunion album, if it happens, will need a whole lot of "studio magic" to be listenable.

  • Well, by Lynch.

  • SOLO IS AWESOME!

  • Beach kicks fucking ass! Thisversin is the bomb!

  • Related videos:nail up ceiling tiles? lol

  • having reb beach fill in for lynch was probably the best possible choice. reb beach is an astounding guitarist, as is lynch.

  • Cool sound, but it's just not the same without Lynch.

  • he is no lynch, but not bad.

  • Sorry but George is not missed here, Reb does a great Job...

  • I saw them live at Border Fest 2009 and they put up a hell of a show!

  • dokken sucks without george lynch remember that kids!!

  • kickass

  • Buckethead rules over both Reb and Lynch, neither is in his solar system, LOL.

  • Yeah.. the Bucket is the craziest maniac, who had ever touched a guitar!!!! .. But both Lynch and Reb Beach are some of my fav's

  • Buckethead is an amazing guitar player but I am not a fan of his sound.

  • All the talk about George and Reb is taking away from Don himself...keep in mind that a LOT of the 80's singers voices are burning out and many sound like shit nowadays, and although Don isn't quite what he used to be, the dude is still pretty fucking awesome. This song sounded really good.

  • As a session player who's been on over 1000 recordings, and from my experience of playing both Reb's material as well as Lynch's material, I find Lynch's material to be so much easier- from tone to technique. I like Lynch's material- but only because it gives me a break from the more difficult style of Beech.

  • Reb does a great job... but those licks are Lynch's forever...

  • George Lynch better? You blowing him? Reb Beach plays hopscotch with Lynch's predictable and unintuitive guitar licks and sub-par songwriting.

If someone can step in and reproduce another's chops, maybe they weren't that great after all.

  • Crazy statement.. Go and see a local band in a club and the chances are that the guitar player will be able to reproduce ther original. The real gift is producing

that work in the first place. Dont get me wrong i think Reb is a great player but I dont think he is better than Lynch as you make out

  • George Lynch is better

  • SICK solo from the Rebber!

  • Saw this band w/ Reb, plus saw hin w/ Whitesnake...Doug Aldrich and him..shred.

  • Doug is great but Reb is KING

  • they 100% rock.

  • Love this song. Reb Beach shreds big time!

  • Reb Beach is the man wow!

  • Theres Reb Beach, and theres guys who wish the could play like Reb Beach! lol

    Rock on!!!

  • Damn I hear ya!!! love those natural wood guitars, and the voyagers smoke too!!!

  • Not only is Reb an amazing player, but he doesn't come with the typical Lead Guitarist baggage. For instance..there aren't a lot of world class guitarists willing to step in and play OTHER LEAD GUITARISTS' LICKS.....i.e. Lynch, Campbell (Whitesnake), Watson (Night Ranger) and of course Mr. Scary himself; G. Lynch. Reb just loves to play and will play with anyone to prove it. An amazing player and gentleman.

  • Very well said!

  • Reb set his reputation early on as a great session player. You can tell why he was after watching this for sure.

  • zyglok....damn right. Reb, imho, is one of the best guitarists walking this little planet of ours. Night Ranger, Whitesnake, Dokken, and of course Winger..this guy has the chops to do it all and has.

  • Comment removed

  • Tooth and Nail is my fave Dokken album, much more raw and agressive than the later ones and more developed than the first one.

  • History will remember George Lynch.....all anyone remembers of Reb Beach is.....*muffled laughter*.....WINGER! BAHAHAHAHAHHAH

  • Really? Find a copy of Guitar Player Magazine...there's a fine little article in there with George. They ask him, "Who are your favorite guitarists right now?" George replies, "Reb Beach...don't know of anyone that can touch him, except for maybe Nuno Bettencourt (of Extreme)" So...way to laugh at yer own boy Metamike. Well done.

  • winger is a great band..reb beach is a great guitarist...at least reb beach is playing music for a living and can say he once played stadiums...have you?

  • Reb is the man! Unreal talent and personality. He's as cool as he is able.

  • he still plays stadiums! world wide he's in demand!

  • man, i want that suhr so bad.

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz lynch has more raw talent

  • I love Lynch, he is a great guitar player but Reb is the King and can rip anyone on guitar solo

  • Hell fucking yeah. I totally agree with you. Reb can rip anyone, I mean anyone in guitar. Lynch is raw, but remember Reb is King of God in guitar

  • Awesome performance all around!! Reb did a GREAT job in this one!! Reb "Nailed" it!! lol...

  • reb is a good guitar player but the song cant be played by anyone but george

  • Excellent version of the song - Don nails both the verse and chorus and Beach masterfully recreates the original solo. I remember the solo Lynch tried to recreate on that DVD from Japan - downright pitiful......

  • Reb Beach???? Lynch? You decide! If it was a boxing match.... Bring the ambulance in now.

  • wooooow

  • Imagine Lynch playing Reb Beach Muisc..

    hahaha!

  • What are you talking about? Live!! thats pretty fuckin good

  • All I'm saying is that his rendition of Tooth And Nails totally messes with the flow of the song. The original solo was far better. Also - it's about 15bpm slower. Used to be a heck of a rocking song.

  • noooo way, reb beach is waaaayyy better than lynch on this solo

  • Comment removed

  • Talentless? Like, none at all?

    Exaggerate much?

  • Damn this fucking rocks!!!

  • You spritzer... you posted the andy timmons vids from the bootleg... where did you get it from?

  • Is this part from a dvd? where can i get this?

  • It's beter for Reb Beach to be in Dokken than to be in Whitesnake.

  • Screw you!

  • moi de même !

I repeat : Good performance and Reb Beach is amazing .

But i don' t like the under lock and key attitude . and the tracks were awesome at this past time .

  • I Agree Under Lock and Key was a rather commercial output by the band (though I like it).

But look at 1987's Back for the Attack, which is too hard for hair metal. That was pure heavy metal and every review labeled it as being a heavy metal album.

Another thing: During the 80's and 90's, Dokken never toured with any hairband. They toured with ACDC, Accept, early Krokus, Judas Priest etc....

  • exactly . Some tracks on ULAK were heavy too ... And Lynch is amazing .

Also , on this vid Mick Brown hits hard !!

I think hair metal was created by Motley crue and Ratt ( beurk ! except Jake 'E' Lee ) in '82 the others follow after during too many years ... until '91 ?

    Agree, Y/N ?

  • LA Hair metal was strongly influenced in its origins by a Finnish LA-based band called Hanoi Rocks. They didn't last long, because one of their members died in a car crash, but yea they were among the firsts who did the whole glam metal thing. Motley Crue were close friends to them and took over their style and looks even before becoming famous. I guess the rest of the LA Scene (with a few exceptions, like VH, Dokken...) just went along.

  • i hope u get murderd
