  • Thumbs if you are watching this in 2012

  • This movie made no sense at all. Character acted without clear reasining through the movie..... was stupid

  • Very underrated movie. Love Mamet.

  • its a karate kid 2

  • Brilliant movie!!!!!!!

  • I WANT A REDBELT 2 :C

  • instant classic.

  • Racist

  • MOVIE WAS DECENT WOULD OF BEEN BETTER WITH A DIFFERENT LEAD ACTOR

  • the movie was great, the message was epic, and the bar fight scene, shit happens, the i never hit the guy line, awesome and it works when you deal with drunken assholes

  • this was a great movie, but an awful trailer that showed most of the movie. wtf

  • Brazilian, Mamet fan and an UFC follower.... still, I think this movie sucks.

  • everything about this movie is truth

  • @watchryder. Wow so you you disagree with the fact you don't need an idea explained to you 10 times and by you own admission STILL have to use your imagination to get it?

I'm the one arguing that the movie has no depth due to the fact it over explains it's points. and I have no imagination??..btw it takes understanding not imagination. And there is no room for insight when it's overly exposed.

    Ok

NOW I see why people like you need movies like this. Gain some common sense and read instead of

  • @abec5. Dude this movie rocks...yup it's great, good movie. ..best movie. This movie good...nice movie..movie interesting. Come on dude...marbles!! Oh and it's a good movie

  • Like an engineer would say....For everything there is a solution.

  • The worst movie ever made. Why do the actors/actress have to repeat there sentences 3 or 4 times in a row??.

"let the wheel come around, sometimes you need to let the wheel come around, just let the wheel come around"

    Happens throughout the entire film.

  • @abec5

It's a motif, an emphasis people need to read into...

  • @WatchRyder umm..yeah.they dont give you much of a chance to read into it.they pretty much spell it out for you. the movie doesn't have to beat people over the head with the idea. you can add emphasis just with the angle of the shot or the music etc.. we get it

you have to admit if you watch it again (which i highly recommend you don't) the dialog is labored and excruciating to your brain. it was just bad writing.

they experimented and failed. there is a reason other films don't follow suit.

  • @abec5

I respectfully disagree, you obviously don't have the imagination and insight required if you feel it's laboured or excruciating to your brain.

  • when does redbelt come out?

  • @falcogreen It's been out for a real long time

  • @falcogreen

    It's already released...

  • "There's always an escape"... Any real BJJ practioner knows that's a load of bullshit. Hollywood bullshit.

  • If you dont get the meaning of this movie you can not call yourself a martial artist or a decent human for that matter.

    OSU to all

  • u guys are fags never back down is a great movie undisputed 2 and 3 are the best i have ever seen and i will watch this how i see it sounds great but this is not trailer how insult never back down becaus that movie was great so u can just kiss mine ass

  • @valentinopivac judging by the way you wrote your comment you're obviously not very intelligent so it's understandable why you would think those were great movies.

  • Um, am I the only one who sees this movie as a jab at Royce Gracie? I think Ricardo in the movie is supposed to be Royce Gracie, with the "Old Man" being Helio Gracie.

Ive looked around, and I don't see anyone even talking about this movie's possible parody of the first couple of UFC bouts.

Obviously I don't think the UFC is rigged, it isn't- but I think the writer of this movie does. Its very odd.

  • @moniker127 I thought about it as well. Then again, UFC in the beginning did fall in favor for Royce and the other Gracies. You have to re-watch those old fights.

  • @geoscience

I've watched a fair bit recently, I don't think they were rigged, I just think that he fought a bunch of guys that didn't really know their stuff when it came to ground work. I don't think most martial artists back then were even aware of the fact that fights go to the ground quite often. Ken Shamrock was the only one with knowledge of even GRAPPLING (wrestling) it was an entirely new way of fighting to the rest of them.

  • I agree with you. The martial arts have to mould the body, character and arouse the respect.

  • i just watched this movie it is fucken sucks waste of my time the trailer look good but the movie sucks

  • one of the best martial art movies I have seen. Gonna watch it again!

  • Dang, dont watch this trailer if you want to stay surprised watching the actual movie

  • @thewickinator They totally killed everything. The movie is great though.

  • what is the name of the song that plays during the closing credits.

  • BAD ASS

  • This is an amazing film. And it's right too. The pursuit of money ruins lives.

  • man i gotta tell yall, this movie has a strong messange, i just watched it and i regret that i watched it now and not 2 years ago... you know, every thing isn´t about money, i think that this movie showed just how things are, people destroy every thing for the pleasure of money, and i ain't saying just in the martial arts, but every thing, the govern that should be helping people and listening too us but they aren´t, the world is fuckin fucked, money doesn't always come first... Keep it real

  • @07RocKz17 *yall* i do not understand!

  • @07RocKz17 well said my brother I completely agree

  • Randy Couture had the funniest line in the movie: Boxing is deader than Woodrow Wilson. LOL!

  • one of the best mma movies ever made

  • i heard mixed reviews. from people that don't train i heard it was really good, but from people that train bjj/mma i heard mixed reviews too. guess ill have to see for mself

  • I'm training kyokushin karate for 11 years now. And in the very end of the movie, when sensei passed him the red belt I started crying. I'm 18 y o. Idk, maybe it triggered the apprentice mode in me. Idk... but this movie... is the movie that all fighters should see.

  • I loved this movie to death, but some of the poeple ive talked to say its lame. I think its because it teaches you about morals, and the true meaning of kung fu rather than a bunch of people beating the crap out of each other. LOL THIS MOVIE RULES.

  • I was expecting another crap MA movie but it turned out ok. The 'message' was a little OTT but the fighting and story was quite good.

  • This is a horrible movie the message I got was comp is a waste of time! Yeah for people scared to enther the ring or whatever!

  • @zeogeox no offence, but you are weak minded.

  • @taaadas

1st of all I cannot spell! 2nd this movie is sending the wrong message. Comp is not a waste of time. Being the kyokushin artist youse are youse should know comp is a great way to test your skill.

  • The Obi (belt) has several purposes. It denotes rank and ability, the Sensei can look around the dojo and tell who can do what. It's a quick means of doing so. It's for safety and respect. Secondly it holds your gi together, and secures your bokken or katana. Thirdly it's traditional attire. the martialartists of old used to start off wearing a white novice Obi (Belt) and the older and more worn it got the darker it became through aging.

  • the worst shite ever put on a screen.Makes a laughing stock out of bjj,the fight choreogaphy was even crap which could possibly have been its redeeming feature.

  • lol imagine having both hands tied n fighting gsp at the same time hah

  • I wouldn't exactly call this a MMA movie. If anything it's more of a Jiu-Jitsu film and the story of a man with true respect for life.

  • The movie was alright but the ending could have been better.

  • I can't believe Tim Allen agreed to be in this.

  • Why are people bitching about the acting? there is nothing wrong with the acting, cast, or anything else! It's a great movie, not a block buster but a much have!

  • Shouldn't be called a martial art.....

Should be called 'skilled brawling'...cos thats what it is!

Fighting for profit defeats the whole aim of what martial arts are about. Too much ego is involved.

How can u have a mixed martial art.

Many professions but master of none! To create a masterpiece painting u do not combine oils, watercolours, acryllics and chalk.....it will be a mess.....like what MMA is!!

  • @mrdubcrazy

Ther is a sport aspect to martial arts....just like anything else....and I wold bet my last dollar that a skilled Mixed Martial Artist with decent grappling and decent standup would kill a "Master" of Kung fu or any other type of Karate.

  • @VictimBooking What about jujitsu?

  • @mrdubcrazy

There's a big difference in Japanese JuJitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Japanese Jujitsu focuses more on Katas and other things......in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu......we'd rather use that time learning how to fight. I was rolling once with some Japanese Jujitsu guys and they couldn't believe when I took my blue belt off and it hit the floor. I said "Guys.....all it does is hold my gi together.......nothing magical about it."

  • @VictimBooking Also...my style of Jujitsu has no katas apart from the nage no kata. and the dangerous parts to the body.

we have etiquette and use traditional names and greet each other by reing (bowing).

The emphasis on training is train hard but look after people as well. We do a fair amount of stand up randori and groundwork. I do it not to learn to beat people up or out do someone in a competition for a cash prize, because then it become something ugly and not an art.

  • @mrdubcrazy

Competition makes people stronger competition isn't an ugly thing...and it lets you know if your as good as you think you are.....I've had put my skills to the test several times in full contact fighting...so I know how good I am......how many black belts in tae Kwon Doe can say that....most of them would get killed in a real fight because they think they are a lot better than they really are due to "Point Sparring" (I also have a black belt in Shorin Ryu so I know the drill).

  • @VictimBooking martial arts competition is cool, we do randori and groundfighting , what i meant was UFC and all that stuff is ugly. I don't like watching it because i rarely see anything i haven't seen down town on a fri night.

  • @mrdubcrazy

Competition makes people stronger...also you can never test your skills if you've nver been in a real fight...I know how good I am because I have used my skills in several situations where someone is trying to hurt me.....self defense ot competition...how many black belts in tae Kwon Do can say that...remember...they lose points for "over aggression" in tournaments.....

  • @VictimBooking

That's what I just tried tellin this taaadas dude!

  • sick jiujutsu

  • dam i wanted to like this movie it had a great story line but dam it was just plagued by bad acting bad directing and even bad editing. Such a shame cause there were some real good actors in this film.

  • @bordone agreed

  • MR. FINN!!!!!

  • lame movie. dont bother watching

  • anyone know the end credit song..

    goodmovie btw

  • one of the best sports films

  • lol looks like shit

  • John Machado FTW

  • who needs to see the movie? just watch the trailer. It's got everything thing you need to know LOL

  • lol yea seriously!

  • it is an awesome movie, but does Chiwetel Ejiofor practice ju-jitsu, because he's used it before in serenity, well, a grappling, lock based martial art?

  • Great movie, the ending is sweet execpt it's sad.

  • Sehr guter Film...

  • WOW... What a film, I highly recomend this film to anyone who can appreciate a great fight film, with soul, character, heart and a sense of honor.

  • story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Jiu-jitsu teacher who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing instead to pursue an honorable life... watch this film here

    TINYURL(dot)COM/ybmatyw

  • while the movie is not saying any particular tournament is fixed, with anything in which there are large sums involved, one should consider the possibility. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was inspirational. Ending was a bit bland, but gave you hope.

  • This movie was perfect up until the last 5 minutes. They should have done a better job with a bit more effort.

  • they say fighting in a tournament is not fighting because there are rules. in a real fight you do what you have to to walk away. they dont say mma is fake or setup. just the tournament in the movie is

  • Mamet Is Mamet. With him straight lines or conformity does not exist,

  • one of the only movies that teaches the reality of self-defense vs. competition. with the real meaning of respect.

  • is this movie saying mma is fake or set up?

  • The director David Mamet practices BJJ and wanted to make a movie involving BJJ. He's not saying MMA is fake or set-up he's just likes to make a world unto itself, this film is influenced heavily by Noir which usually invovles a conspiracy of some kind as well as western and samurai genres.

  • Nah i seen it it is really good. It doesn't say it is fake just that they pick who gets the white stone and stuff. it is pretty gd tho

  • o well thanks my english 12 teacher was saying it was fake and i was arguing with him and he said to watch this and i haven't gotten to yet but thanks for explaining it .

  • your teacher sound pretty stupid, MMA (UFC) isn't fixed

  • yea he isn't really stupid just has a theory or conspiracy about everything

  • No, its not saying that its just more about the corruption in prized fights.

  • o ok thanks

  • the best mma movie ive seen, teaches the true meaning of martial arts respect and honor, none of that bullshit like never back down

  • @k1llwood hahaha.. yea true meaning of children's sense of respect and honor.

  • And you are nothing but a stupid whore and being proud as one. Martial arts is one of the best and most respected and honored sport in the world but you are too stupid to realize that. The people of America, Japan, Canada, Australia, China, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Spain and many more honors and respects the sports and the way of martial arts or they wouldn't allow martial arts in their country, but you are an complete idiot to notice that too.

  • @KatzYellowknight MMA hasent a tournament in norway -_-

  • @CT2507 You are still a loser and your mom is still a stupid whore.

  • @k1llwood THE MAIN ACTOR WAS SHIT

  • @k1llwood bullshit movie it was racist the Gracie family was the bad guys WTF your an asshole a black dude come on.Roger Herta life story is more exciting than this bullshit its too racist for me.

  • @k1llwood i would almost have to disagree lol well eetdont no yet i am about to watch this move,(redbelt) but i thought n,b,d. wat real good maybe its cuz im more of a stfighter so but still wat ur sayin is true HONOR RESPECT

  • @k1llwood Martial arts is not self defense. It's teaches about your self and a lot of things.

  • @k1llwood lol never back down sucked ass

  • @k1llwood i thought never back down was pretty good...

  • Good film. Recommended.

  • OK FINE koo movie JIU JITSU ROCKS. I WATCHED THIS MOVIE AT THE THEATER AND AT HOME AND I SAY IT AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE> SO yeah i seen it . koo movie.

  • thats how two ground fighter fight. they go for submission rather than waste time with punching and kicking

  • Good video, if you want to see more mma techniques, look for my flying submissions videos

  • lol what an idiot its about jui-jutsu this isnt about mma you dumb fuck know your martial arts fag... replying to

    JasonBJJ1990

  • i know its about bjj this movie is corny as hell your a DOUCHEBAG! the hella try to do the mma at the end man this movie is so FAKE! its fuckin GAY. hella corny. idont give a fuck JUST WATCH CHOKE THE RICKSON GRACIE doc.OR RENZO GRACIE legacy etc. this was i give it a 6 or 5 . dont get me started on movie lik fightin or never back down. . lol CORNY as shit

  • Practice what you preach pal.

  • focus less on what fighting is in the movie, and more on the story line and acting. its a few steps from brilliant i know, but its still a great movie to watch. easily watchable twice. its way less corny than never back down or fighting, theres alot more deeper meaning and more adult appeal in this movie. its actually serious.

  • You're aware that the Gracie's trained Ejiofor for this film, right?

And the point of this movie, if u had seen it, is not the actual fighting in the ring, its about the lives of the ppl involved.

And this isn't about MMA either, it's about Jui-Jitsu.

Watch the movie, then pass judgement.

And if u had seen it already, then pay attention and make sure you know wat you're talking about.

  • Good film. But they should have shot the fight scenes from higher instead of eye level.

And they shouldn't have casted Tim Allen. It cheapened the film.

  • cheapened the film? Tim allen is one of the biggest actors ever

  • your probably a queer.

  • t'was juzt my opinion!!!

  • hey you guys...

    you know the escape...

  • I'll watch it. I'm wasting time reading comments about it, can't hurt to possibly waste a little more. To support Couture, I'll watch it. I don't think MMA will be affected one way or another because of a movie.I think Brock being a jerk to the guy he just beat is way more harmful than a movie that dosn't portray MMA perfectly. I am sure I'll enjoy this way more than most movies being made right now. Never back down was very High Schooly, and cheesy, but I didn't feel like it was a waste.

  • Randy Cotour, Tim Allen. How can this movie explain jiujitsu in those terms; handicap fighter, honest police officer(c'mon), old school Brasilian fighter involved in the movie, etc. The movie has NO point, it doesn't explain or represent the style at all. What a waist of money, I'm so desapointed, not because of the characters, but because of the stupid drama. It doesn't represent the sport at all. It's misrepresented totally. My hope is that UFC, and WECstill make it after these stupid movie.

  • Chatan, you don't need to "know about fighting" to understand this movie. Tim Allen isn't in this film because he takes karate in real life. For those that seem to think this is a documentary on MMA or don't get why actors are in this film, you should watch it again ... or for the first time, from what is sounds like. Or not post if you're eight.

  • Seems interessting, but "Tim Allen" ?! I mean....... Why him? Is he practicing?

  • i think he takes karate but most likely he got the role because he's a recognizable actor, playing an actor, i mean he's not seen in it much and he doesnt do anything

  • There are so many other films that deserve a "this movie sucked so bad" review. This is a good movie about honor vs. greed. If you're into MMA, that is merely the background of this film. We need more people to hush about whether the fights were realistic or not or how many belts they possess in reality. That has zip to do with the narrative. Focus, people. Focus.

  • Couldnt agree with you more. There's more to a story than fight scenes. this was a tale about trying to live by a code of honor when everyone else is trying make money. Not some mindless flick like "Never back down"

  • this movie sucked so bad the ending was just thrown together and it was pathetic

  • This Movie is one of the best movies i ever saw!

And the end of it is very well made, this movie is very good !

I recommend the ppl that like martial arts, fighting movies to watch this one!

  • just watched this movie ,very good in my opinion.

  • I want to see this!

  • this movie is a disgrace to martial arts and jiu jitsu its too HOLLYWOOD. JUST WATCH RENZO GRACIE LEGACY!

  • You know you are young and dumb becasuse how is this going to be a disgrace to jiu jitsu? John Machado is Renzo's cousin and Robson is his uncle. John started bbj a few years after Renzo you idiot.

  • a very good movie, but most ppl who watch it dont kow anything about fighting

  • I watched the video of you fighting that black guy, you don't know how to fight. stupid fat shit.

  • an what do you know about fighting FALLOUT MASTER?? stick to video games. An think twice before u claim to know ANYTHING about fighting.

  • and what do u no mr.solorobo ya sounds like a real fighting name, whats the point of making fun of my name cuz it has nothing to do with fighting neither dose urs grow up dude for real!

  • Hey, see that there to the right of your message? That's 3 thumbs down. That means (at least) three people thought you were an idiot.

Quit trolling. Youtube is looking ridiculous nowadays because of all the people like you that feel the need to spend their time on Youtube comments.

  • I totally agree with you man. Everybody who is dissing this film does not have a clue about martial arts.

  • no no no ...you see, I PWN you faggot mind ur business guy.

  • dude shut up neither of you know about fighting your just wasting time till your next gerkin jerkin but your also waisting our time so shut the fuck up

  • u know your not helping your cause by actually commenting on these morons right?

  • You obviously don't know anything about Jujitsu.

  • This film is BJJ's version of the "Karate Kid". Very well done!

  • great movie the black dude is an underrated actor

  • Tell you guys the truth I didnt like the movie. Not because of the action but because of the story it kinda seemed unrealistic the way the characters acted and the story line where nothing to ME made sense

    Thats just my opinon.

  • I respect that. Mamet's dialogue takes a breed to like it and some just dont. If you havent seen his other work and didn't like it, you probably wont like this.

  • great movie

  • i saw the film and it was grat ,good story

  • A lot of thumbs down and spam ratings. Hum...m.. and they still think they are right.

  • This movie is not about action, but about life, great story powerfull idea.Martial art is not biznis.Great movie.

  • To all you haters. Fuck You! This is a real movie. There are no famous bands, effects, and stupid ass heart throbs in it. There in lies its goodness alone. All you brain washed fools just understand glamer and bling and know shit about film. So sit back shut the fuck up and learn a thing or two.

  • I concur. Incredible movie, very inspiring, extremely dramatic.

  • ANOTHERCOILGUN, big up to you. Well said. This is a real movie. No Hollywood, no hearthrobs, a raw to the heart movie. Saw this twice. The minds have to grow up to understand the movie, for real.

  • Yes !, lets bring back Benny the Jet and Don the Dragon Wilson !, the films were fairly crap, but the fighters were real !!, it is nice to have some Hollywood Van damme bullshit tho isnt it !

  • Benny the Jet vs Jackie Chan in that one movie meals on wheels (maybe the other way around or something) is one of the best fight scenes ever.

  • @Anothercoilgun

Well said man, some people need to be told with a wrecking ball to the side of the head...

  • I am watching the movie now. Its good and I may be biased but the moment I saw David Mamet's name in the intro I was sold.

  • Biased you are. Biased I am.
