  • dont know what i was expecting ......but pretty damn cool thumbs up

  • frogging morry

  • Excellent!!! 55555*****! (+ fave) And shows very well the international/universal/global power /feature of music and really good mood! Totally authentic!!! Congratulation!!! The singer is perfect too!!!

    Go on!!!!!

  • Think of also Dropkick Murphy's?! :D

  • Aiglos,

It's a video, not the performance. I don't think the guy on the bodhran actually plays it, he's the drummer.

They're probably not looking to be virtuoso performers, they weren't raised playing their instruments in Donegal.

It's a punk band that's embraced a folk musical form which is both alien and akin to their own.

  • That was excellent !!!

    Arigato ...

  • @AiglosCelt

What does it matter if the comment is 5 months old??

  • This...is awesome.

  • love these guys

  • Just because some knows how to speak doesn't mean they should and its doesn't make them a english teacher either. Go hate somewhere else.

  • It's one thing to use a different/innovative technique. Your comparison isn't really applicable in this situation. It's really more like taking a guitar, turning it over, drumming on the back, and saying that you know how to play the guitar.

  • Haha. I love that he's doing the raspy hard Irish voice. Definitely influenced by the Pogues.

  • Now that is awesome thank you for sharing it

  • Cant understand why i liked this video but I did.I couldnt understand a word of it either but these guys can play.

  • haha, that dude that plays the flute with the glasses is bad ass...i wanna just chill out with him

  • epic...this song is epic...

  • BWA-HA-HA-HAAA!!! A Japanese dude trying to do his best Shane McGowan impersonation! Too funny! But this song RAWKS anyway; they have a good feel for the Celtic side of things. Who'd have thought the Japanese could hang with Irish music? *thumbs up*

  • Ah jaysus that's bleedin deadly buzz man.

  • are they singing in english?

  • Yeah I couldn't really understand him either...

  • This band obviously have a great feel for trad Irish-style music, which is more than anyone can say for Flogging Molly of late. Drunken Lullabies (FM) was the business, great record, but they sound like a tuneless gimmick since then. THIS SONG is way more in keeping with that Drunken Lullabies spirit. It has some punch and colour to it. I think the world is sick and tired of boring gimmicky Irish-style bands. THIS, HOWEVER, IS REAL AND WORTHWHILE. More like the spirit of THE TOSSERS.

  • I passed on a link to a Galician fan of celtic music, he recognised it's energy immediately.

  • well, a galician could recognize this type of music in a heart beat.

  • I wondered why this band seem so natural, able to work the melody so well. Apart from sheer talent...it's because it IS natural. Japanese folk is based on the same pentatonic scale, characteristic of most east Asian and all Celtic folk musics eg Irish, Vietnamese. Also found in Afro-American spirituals influenced by African folk. All just one note away from the blues scale.

Some of the first western music adopted in east Asia was Irish & Scottish folk, it sounds natural to the ear. Both ways.

  • do you have sources or additional info for that? it's the first time i've heard it but would like to read more about it..

  • My first reply was lost...

Try "Fight Preconceptions with Pentatonic Mode" by Renee Leech for some theory on the pentatonic scale why it works in improvisation (e.g. "How to play Piano using the Pentatonic Scale" by Herbert Midgley).

"Celtic Music in Japan" by Ron Korb mentions the major pentatonic, so does "Irish Music in Japan - History" on the "Song House" blog.

"The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle" by Grey Larsen on Ionian & Dorian pentatonic scales in Irish music.

    :)

  • THX!! I'll have to translate some of this for my 'japanese celtics' someday...:)

  • saw these guys live in orlando, these are some bad ass japanese. ;) - thom

  • Was it at the Social? I found out too late because my bro didn't tell me. They were with Flogging Molly, right?

  • House of Blues in Orlando, they played with Flogging Molly. I just received "Sail the Pint" today from JP, great album. Buy it and show some supppppooort! - thom

  • Hell yeah I will. These guys rock! Their stuff makes me feel super-happy, especially "Oblivious"

  • Please tell me how you ordered it!

I really need to get my hands on Rouse Up and Sail the Pint

I got Beer My Friends when they played St. Patricks Day with Flogging Molly in Arizona :)

  • go visit their myspace or HP,...you can order it there.

  • I saw these guys with Flogging Molly in Tempe on the 16th. They were freaking AMAZING. I got to meet them all and I bought their CDs and a T-shirt!

  • Saw these guys the 11th with Flogging Molly, kicked ass.

  • I was there to, after the show they were signing, and they were soooooooooo nice. They wouldn't let you have your stuff until everyone in the band had signed it.

  • Just saw them open for Flogging Molly last night in Orlando. Super badass.

  • this might be just me, but it really does seem like japanese music is always copying the rest of the world, i don't understand the whole irish theme of this band, since they are about the furthest you can be from irish.

  • Maybe they like Irish music? I don't think you need to "be" a certain ethnicity to enjoy it.

  • Well it is true that Japan seems to take a lot from other cultures, it's not like every other country doesn't do so to others as well. Hell, I'm Vietnamese and I love Flogging Molly.

  • Have you ever taken the time to listen to all different kinds of Japanese music? It sure as hell can be VERY different from any of the stuff you find in the rest of the world. Seriously. Do more research before you say something like that. And who cares if they're not Irish? Half the people that attend Flogging Molly concerts aren't Irish but they enjoy it just the same. If it offends you then don't look at it. >.>;

  • FYI they had a one-man show last night and they announced that they're opening for Flogging Molly in early March, so if you live in the South try to catch them at their best!

  • ez tök vicces =) xD

  • Япония и Ирландия близнецы-братья!!!!!

    Кто более матери-истории ценен? :)

  • !!!!!!

  • thats bloody mental.fair fucks.

  • You mean Celtic music.

  • Accept correction young one.

  • cealli music? Wtf? lol We categorize it as Celtic music here. =p Why aren't you using right punctuation and grammar?

  • pog mo hoan? Perhaps you mean póg mo thóin. If you're going to criticize someone for being from the us and claim superiority for being Irish, at least do it in proper gaelic. Oh and it's celtic. dumbass.

  • sigh, that was supposed to be a quote, not a new response

  • But...it is Irish. I know this because they list their influences as Dropkick Murphys and The Pogues and a variety of other Irish Punk Rock bands. Not Seven Nations, or any of the Celtic themed groups.

  • Shit. I never thought I'd see these guys on youtube!

  • one of maybe two major bands that do irish punk right

  • el caso es q son la ostia....

joder dale una idea a un japones...

  • Please use comas.

  • This is absolutely beautiful. Where can I buy a CD?

  • you can buy it in japan ^^ (as i did) or via their myspace site
