polar fibre is really great stuff, I like to tie white then chartreuse and then olive on top, with just a pinch of krystal flash and then if you want some eyes...on a sz4 O'Shaugnessy stainless hook, only thing is, I have had trouble with the material wraping round the bend of the hook and 'cause it's so fine, it's a beast to untangle, even when dry... gonna try and tie the same colours in DNA frosty fish fibre and see how that looks...
@danebrewer10 try using thinned clear silicone and coat from the hook eye to the bend - get it to penetrate the fibres (mix silicone with a little lighter fluid or turps and mix for a while, apply with wet fingers - water with dishwashing liquid)
stops the fouling and acts a little like a hinge allowing the tail to wiggle during the retrieve takes a while to dry - leave in the sun or on back window shelf of car
there are other flexible products on the market too but silicone is cheap
@angrypant5 huh, nice idea, just like epoxy, working the silicone in? or just as a coat, I have tied some mackeral and gold baitfish patterns in the DNA recently, and I must say they look the business, let's just hope the bass think so to!, I've noticed some folks tie a mono loop on the hook facing backwards to prevent tangling, how well does this actually work? cheers
@danebrewer10 just a thin coat impregnating the outer fibres at the head then worked back to the hook bend. add eyes when tacky , then when dry i use nail polish ( sally hasens hard as nails) to give more durability .anther coating is clear cure goo a uv harden option but more costly - google clea cure goo or bug bond
