When I was twenty I went to Hartford and was awed by this performance. Thank you for finding it. Backstage she gave me a radiant smile that seemed for me alone. Her gold cadillac was outside with her own four costumes. The chorus on the train back were saying, ''The critics be damned, she is still fantastic". Domingo is still with us but Renata has become a legend. The memories of the heros of my youth turn out to be true.
Where do people get this stuff? Really great. The Insurance City Opera I guess. This is 6 months before Domingo made his Met debut with - yep, you guessed it - Tebaldi in Adriana Lecouvreur.
Terrific - it's such a wonderful duet and they sound marvellous together: both have an almost instrumental way of shaping phrases which suggests a real musical compatibility despite the age gap. The abandon of her performance is astonishing here and the caressing pianissimi at the end really seductive - definitely enough to make Des Grieux "morire".
A bit fast here, Tebaldi was wonderful but here she is far past her prime, and Domingo here is young and still rather good here. In his earlier days Domingo made a good Des Grieux.
Oh, my, German Opera Singer...Domingo was still RATHER good? Wow. Damning with faint praise. When did he stop being good. And she was incredible to the end. My opinion, of course.
Tebaldi does sound fresh here, although her top is not as free as it was 15 years earlier. Domingo has a unique ability to convey the passion of a scene without using extra-musical tricks.

Uno de los mejores roles del tenor madrileño. Además aquí sonaba tan juvenil, fresco y viril...

Tebaldi and Domingo sounds great.
Too bad they never recorded together.
Her voice sounds very fresh.

Tebaldi after so many Giocondas sounds so fresh here, and Domingo is also wonderful

It's Renata, nobody else. Did you expect another result? She could sing Gioconda, and afterwards Mimi, Manon...
