Actually... there's a vast difference. One can actually play the piano - with fierce articulation. The other just bangs the same chords in the same keys to a level that makes Keyboard Cat blush. I won't say which one... but it's obvious who has actual musicianship. That same person relies on music, conceptual arcs, and avoids cliche keywords like: Baby, Games, Falling, Anything about the damn weather.. in every other lyric...
While the other - tries to distract you with clown outfits instead.
Gaga just can't even begin to touch the piano like Tori does. Half the time she forgets what she's playing on the piano. Tori just forgets her lyrics - which are far deeper and poetic. No contest. Gaga is fun - she has her place, but really there is no comparison.

Wow! Playing segments of Tori then Gaga really expresses either how truly awful Gaga is, or how truly talented Tori is. I would say it does a little bit of both. Gaga is on he level of an American Idol runner-up, and Tori is on a level where there is no comparison. Don't worry fellow Tori fans. In a couple of years Gaga will be a distant memory. And Tori's legacy will continue on until she desires it to end.
The longer I watsh the video, the less I understand why the two are compared. And also that I am more sure every time that Tori is so mutsh better at making music. and Gaga making circus. I tired of the whole debate about artists copying other artists. There is nothing wrong with being inspired by another artists, as long as you do it in your own way.

Tori has paved a lot of roads for a lot of women in the music industry, nevermind if they give her a nod or realize it at all.
Tori is a real artist unlike gaga... All of lady gagas "weirdness" is all an act to make her performances more "extreme" when really it just makes her look like a joke. Tori is unlike any other and makes lady gaga look like a dog. Tori wins hands down!
What's so talented about Gaga? I am being genuine here. I really don't see it. She can play the piano well, but a lot of people can play the piano well, a lot of people can play piano better than Tori and Gaga combined. But what sets Tori apart is she has a poetic passion and a quirk that is hard to come by and it blows the best technical pianists out of the same ballpark as her. I don't see that in Gaga. Just writing about religion and supporting minority groups doesn't make you talented.
I see her as talented because of her ability to write songs that are extremely simple but at the same time extremely catchy, and that she also sits down and play the piano like this. A recent performance that I really love is Born This Way live at Annabell's.
I've been a Tori fan for about 14 years& just started listening to Gaga this year. They both have a unique way of mixing religion and sexuality (listen to Gaga's new stuff &her HBOconcert) Theyre both strong talented women with a message. I thought Gaga was just another marketing tool with nothing to say, but I was wrong. Give her a real chance. She is a performance artist. I love them both. It's not a competition

They're both very different...Gaga's music is like a hot, bright, sunny day and Tori's is like a moonlit night....they're enjoyable and beautiful in their own way.

I have been into Tori since 1992 and I have seen her around 60 times in concert. Because of that comment, I went and checked out Gaga, and I'm glad I did. I got to see Gaga in small venues and sat in the third row and I sat in the front row. The days of intimate Gaga shows are OVER! Thanks, Tori.

Tori is a real artist unlike gaga... All of lady gagas "weirdness" is all an act to make her performances more "extreme" when really it just makes her look like a joke. Tori is unlike any other and makes lady gaga look like a dog. Tori wins hands down!

What's so talented about Gaga? I am being genuine here. I really don't see it. She can play the piano well, but a lot of people can play the piano well, a lot of people can play piano better than Tori and Gaga combined. But what sets Tori apart is she has a poetic passion and a quirk that is hard to come by and it blows the best technical pianists out of the same ballpark as her. I don't see that in Gaga. Just writing about religion and supporting minority groups doesn't make you talented.

I've been a Tori fan for about 14 years& just started listening to Gaga this year. They both have a unique way of mixing religion and sexuality (listen to Gaga's new stuff &her HBOconcert) Theyre both strong talented women with a message. I thought Gaga was just another marketing tool with nothing to say, but I was wrong. Give her a real chance. She is a performance artist. I love them both. It's not a competition

Gaga is more talented visually& I have found Tori to be a little awkward at times in that arena & sometimes a little cheesy with certain music vids and album art. But she is clearly more talented with the piano than Gaga. But to be honest, I'm really not feeling Tori's more recent work (post 2005)
I love artists for different reasons. Thats all.

Obviously this poster doesn't think Gaga is better than Tori, so those complaining about that need to chill. I think it's great to have this video because it may help inject someone as amazing as Tori into the young minds of those who only know Lady Gaga. Perhaps they'll do a search for Gaga, find this video, and come away a Tori fan. I discovered Tori when "God" aired on MTV. There I was watching the popular stuff and I came away with Tori as favorite artists for the rest of my life.

The 'I have a nine inch co*k part' is from our interview with Tori I filmed in 2007! I met and love them both. No reason to compare them, just love them for who they are. Two strong women that both in their own way inspire so many people. Music is art, not a competition. Both Tori and Gaga are not in it for the money...they live to write and perform.

I'm a huuuuuge Tori Amos fan and I loved the part where she messed up "Mr. Zebra". I love when things don't quite turn out right during her shows. You are right though, you can't compare GaGa to Tori simply because the music is so different. On the one hand you have songs with a very deep and profound meaning...and then you have mindless pop songs lacking much substance. I like GaGa but love Tori.

You gotta admit gaga's got a quirkiness and peformance quality similar to Tori...althought I think Tori is a better musician/songwriter...I think Gaga is a pretty good performer and has a visual creativity that adds to her artistry. 2 years ago when Tori was at SXSW someone asked her what she thought about Lady Gaga and Tori said "I think Lady Gaga is very entertaining, and people need to be entertained right now". I have been into Tori since 1992 and I have seen her around 60 times in concert. Because of that comment, I went and checked out Gaga, and I'm glad I did. I got to see Gaga in small venues and sat in the third row and I sat in the front row. The days of intimate Gaga shows are OVER! Thanks, Tori.
