  • meh. your nose just doesn't look right.

  • Beautiful.

  • I feel so calm watching this...it must feel so soothing having the make up placed on you.

  • were your friends trying to get you to laugh and mess up the makeup?

  • ah have you got the outcome piccture? :3

  • lol at the commentary provided by the woman filming.

  • Hey...did you see any black people getting it done while you were there? I'm curious as to how they would go about doing this for...people of "color"

  • 100$ O.O its pretty but not enough for a one time thing...

  • wow 100dollars thats kinda of expensive

  • I wanna jump in and fix that ear I am pretty dead sure its not supposed to be white! BAHHHHHH

  • I wanna see the outcome :(

  • I don't know why but this is actually really soothing to watch. That lady seemed to really know what she was doing.

  • What's with people asking if she's Caucasian? Of course she is, how can you not tell?

  • is a maiko the same like a geisha?

    greez from austria

  • @wetlord

A Maiko is a Pre-Geisha, or an Geisha apprentice. One have to take the test to become a Maiko before become a full pledge Geisha. You should watch the series "Becoming a Geisha"! It's really good, it is on Youtube :D

  • so pretty =D

1:05 random guy scream? lol xD

  • It's interesting to see 舞妓 makeup on Caucasian girls ^^

By the way, the lower lip should extend over the real lip, and on the outside corners of the eyes should be red then brushed to the center, this one is too much and too at the center, but it's close enough to the real deal.

And not to mention you're pretty :)

  • You have a stunning complexion !!

I'm dressing up as a geisha/maiko on friday as part of a work-do and this has helped alot with my make up queries so thank you for posting it!

You look like you had alot of fun =]

  • The lips are incorrect.

  • @tangos Why?

  • beautiful!

  • she's so pretty...

  • Does anyone know what they use to get the skin so white?

  • It's a special makeup that is used by kabuki, noh, and geishas. It comes in a paste form and must be diluted before putting on.

  • i did it in kyoto <3 , for like..90 euros

  • Where did you get this done?

  • I wanted to watch from the beginning to the end!!

    So beautiful

  • you look like a porcelain doll! amazing.

  • I love the red eyeshadow!

  • wow!! that was you" your so pretty and the miako make over was a great job! i would love to have that done to see what i would look like as a maiko xDD

  • If you knew as much about Japanese culture as you'd like to pretend,

Specifically that of the Maiko and Geisha tradition,

You'd know that REAL maikos, nor more experienced geishas, hardly ever filled in both the upper and lower lip,

For it gave the illusion of oversized lips.

  • I don't understand this really rude and hostile tone, but as always, it seems to accompany someone who is misinformed.

Actually, the shading of a Maiko's bottom lip alone is practiced only in their first year of apprenticeship, and not even in Pontocho at that. You may have gotten this idea from early 20th century geiko who painted only their bottom lip, but this went well out of style by 1950.

Try not to be so nasty in the future. Even if you WERE right, it completely discredits you.

  • If you were to read my comment more carefully before giving yourself satisfaction in trying to 'prove me wrong,'

You'd have noticed that I said FILLED IN.

More often than not, they would color both the upper and bottom lip, but hardly ever fully apply make up all over the lip, because as I said, it gave the appearance of oversized lips, with the contrast of bright red to white.

Perhaps you should look more closely at exactly who is misinformed.

  • Wow they did a stunning job! You look beautiful! Where in Harajuku did you get it done?

  • Is this woman Caucasian? Is it possible to make a Caucasian woman up to look like a geisha or do you need the underlying Japanese bone structure and facial features?

    So interesting watching this.

  • That is ME in the video..I am white and it was possible to make me into a maiko, not a geisha..makio is different from geisha. even the japanese people there said I looked japanese when the outcome came out..i also have almond shaped eyes to which help..

  • You look beautiful~!

  • hey, why do they color the lips in fully? Any reason?

  • one of the differences between a maiko and a geisha is the lips

maiko lips cant be fully paint

    only geishas

some maikos only paint the bottom one but the one wants to paint both cant have it fully paint, what i mean is that they have to pain it under the line of the lips

so when people see them can see the difference between them

there are plenty other things to diference geishas and maikos but i just want to answer your question

    misha

  • pretty =)

  • 1:06 who was that screaming? I nearly jumped out of my skin

  • I don't know why, but watching the lady apply makeup is kinda hypnotic...relaxing even. She looks like she really takes her craft seriously. Too bad you didn't get photage from beginning to end.

  • The most beautiful Maiko makeup id done as they did it when Geisha's were roaming around as a common practice. Now we have makeup that doesn't involve as much dedication to the art, and can be found and bought in any makeup store. pitiful.

  • Where do they get the white makeup?0_0

  • lmao

Of course she didn't get to keep the kimono.

Do you even know how much those things cost?!

  • you are a truly beautiful woman.. the make up made you even more stunning

  • That is beautiful work, that woman did a really good job.

  • wow! you look beautiful!!!!!!!!! stuff these idiots, your stunning! ps, do you know what they used to make your skin white and how thery did it?

  • I am beautiful..so screw off with ur negative comment

  • How much does that cost? did you get the kimono? if yes did you get to keep the kimono?

  • it was 100 dollars and i did not get the kimono

  • OMG she is soooo pretty. Im a guy and would love to be a maiko girl for a day :) I just dont think I could sit there for that long getting it done, but would sufer throught it lol

  • thanks for saying im pretty..it was a beautiful process

  • where did you go to get this? i wanna go! and how much did it cost exactly?

  • i got it done in Harajuku and it was 100 dollars

  • @Emmichi 100 dollars! wow, pricey! did u get to wear the clothes too?

  • How much did it cost to get that done??

  • this is so cool!!! i wanted to do this..

  • ur lucky!!! i wish i could do that and i wish i was asian!! asian people r cool! people that wrote stuff on ur video dont kno what they r talking about!!

  • i think it looks good.

  • Hon, I am sorry that people on here are so rude! I apologize on behalf of the human race! What is so offensive about a white girl getting a traditional maiko makeover? It's art and it's very well done.

And what's with this comment "real beauty is in a wider face"? Even Japanese women come in all different shapes and sizes. Real beauty comes from within. Makeup is not the source of beauty, but it helps to bring out the best in features that you already have!

  • who fucking cares what race she is, I thought it was cool. don't we ave better things to be doing than pointing out the obvious for a good troll? jeez louise

  • Lol. It's kind of easy to tell you are not Asian.

Your nose is bigger (pointier?) than an Asian's otherwise would be. Not as an insult, it's just a fact that Asian noses are much flatter than Caucasian ones. =P

  • not all asian people have big noses!! they come in different shapes and sizes like white people!!! :(

  • that IS a white girl hahahahaha jeeze

  • wow...there are a lot of ignorant comments on here...she's obviously not a white girl. They're speaking Japanese! Look at the surroundings, listen to their voices. In any case, Beautiful makeup.

  • I AM a white girl btw..I have asian genes in me though so I eaisly pulled it off.The japanese even said I looked very japanese.

  • well I'm sorry. You did start the video after all the white make-up was applied, and with your eyes closed, you do look Japanese. I was just defending the fact that it looks very authentic, unlike a blonde, white girl on a video I saw recently "teaching" others how to do geisha make-up...in a halloween style

  • From my ancestors dip shit..

  • my face is not round..i pulled it off quite well

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • I totally agree with tinkwantspeace. I feel just like that... but anyways U ARE SOOO LUCKY! I totally wish I could get geisha makeup! I wish I was asian so I wouldn't look funny with it on, though. :(

Actually, I wish i was asian anyways, they're pretty!! Well most of the time anyways lol.

  • She looks like china doll. Beautiful .;d

  • yep

  • i think the person is trying to say that this is a japanese culture, and that it looks a bit strange on people of other races.

i just dont really care. im not japanese

  • i am white

  • They painted her back and neck as well, so we can't tell what she really looks like.

  • wat does that have to with wat i said

    incase u forgot

'it never looks white on white chicks'

  • It never looks white on white chicks?

What the fuck are you talking about?

  • The camera holder is speaking Japanese to her, also look at her hair color and skin color and the angle of her eyes.

  • i love it toooo<333

  • Part of me feels like no one besides a geisha should put on the make up and another part of me thinks its really fucken cool and i wanna do it.

    So im totally lost. lmao.

    BEAUTIFUL make up job though

  • so cool. I did it a few years ago and I`m a blonde 5`8" lady from Toronto! great video.

  • don't know, but I would feel weird getting a maiko "makeover"; like I would be intruding on a very mysterious culture, meant to stay that way. Besides, whoever heard of a 5'10 blonde, blue eyed geisha?! ;-)

  • the eyebrows are pretty.

  • you're features are not as delicate and is an asian's so the make up tends to make you look more like a porcelin doll rather than a geisha. it's still beautiful :)

  • it looks odd on a western girl

  • I love the makeup. its so gorgeous.

  • I really need to go to Japan....I would love to experience that. :3

  • You're so lucky! I would kill to get a geisha or maiko makeover.

  • The lips are totally wrong, Maiko had small lips painted on, very round and pouty, like a doll.

  • It's a little trickier to put that mouth on a westerner, since Asian women tend to naturally have poutier mouths.

  • AHhh I'm so jealous of her I love having make up put on my face its so relaxing its like a delicate face message without the ruff skin of hands even silky hands can feel ruff on your face.

Of course the whole point in puting make up on is to wear it and I hate to wear it...

but i love smudged eye liner around the eyes (not alot just enough to make it look darker then normal)

  • Beautiful !

  • whats on her hand? looks fuzzy...

  • slashnyaoi

I think it's the make-up thing that they use to put on powder, maybe she was wearing it there so her hand didn't rub the girl's face.

  • she looks like a china doll!

  • what was that noise

  • Where did she get the white foundation?

  • the white foundation is geishas secret doesn't you know that? ^-^

  • Well Im not a geisha...so no. But I really dont care about secrets. If shed just tell me where to get it all would be good.

  • maybe you can try mixing foundations.

or get that kind of costume foundation thingys.

    for like halloween parties.

    that kind..?

    geishas are soo cool <3

  • Ew. Mixing just makes you look like a lepoard. And the halloween thing is going to melt my face. I'd like there to be a nice white powder foundation for regular wear. Dance make up just breaks me out :( My dilemma.

  • you can order special geisha makeup online, it comes in a powder form that you mix with water and the 'sponge' in. to remove excess liquid. otherwise *shrugs*

  • if you ever go into Hot Topic and go to there makeup section they have makeup that makes your face white...its not cheap gross make-up either its like what geisha's were...probably not as good but very simular. and its for all skin tones to.

  • Mixing correctly doesn't make you look like a leopard. :P Professional makeup artists mix all the time.

    You can buy the makeup from ebay, from a store called "Hannari-ya". The white foundation is called shiro nuri. But you have to get used to mixing it with the correct amount of water for the correct consistency. ;

  • Oh wow, penceling the eyebrows into such a graceful shape looks really hard!

  • Whoever was doing the commenting was hilarious! XD

  • thanks for the video. This will be helpful at halloween when I do my daughter up as a geisha. You look like a Geiko rather than a maiko.

  • You can see her compact is almost empty. I bet she bought it less than a week ago!

  • Oooh, that's really nice. You wanted to be dressed up as a senior maiko? (I see the lipstick, it looks more junior geisha though. *giggles*)

  • that geisha is super hot,

Mental note to self must earn enough to employ their services.

  • Perv. Not to mention that the don't have sex with their clients. *rolls eyes*

  • the flower and willow world are not meant for every commoner's taste.

  • Um, ok then. I think you replied to the wrong person. :P

  • Most certainly not! A Maiko and Geisha's profession is based on preserving the traditional arts such as dance, singing and music and entertaining in a non-sexual manner. Oiran and Tayuu were the highest class of courtesans, or, to put it bluntly, the highest rank in the hierarchy of prostitution in the pleasure quarters. They were not Geisha, nor were Geisha Oiran or Tayuu.

  • Thanks! This may help me with my drawings of geisha! This is cool!

  • Yhanks for posting this. I found it vary helpfull for when I paint my face.

    DR.b

  • Oh cool! Is this one of those places where they dress you up like a geisha and do a photo shoot?

  • where is it in kyoto/

  • Gion.

  • That's so awesome.

  • WOW THATS HOT
