As much as I loved Star Saber, I thought his Victory Saber combo was pretty weak. I would of accepted it more had he had a new chest piece and arm add-ons.

Well, yeah, but you gotta remember a few things, such as that the toys come before the show, hasbro had no say in what went on with these toys, Star Saber on his own is a pretty thoroughly combined robo itself, as well as looking like it wasn't designed with Victory Leo in mind. Plus there just isn't much more you can do with it. Don't forget that they can combine in vehicle mode too, and that V Leo has to support 3 modes, both of which hinder robot mode combination. Plus that huge gun is sweet.

you have some very valid points and given his age I really shouldn't have expected much, I guess the bit that annoys me in in robot mode there about the same size and they Victory Leo becomes a pair of shoes and backpack like Tidal Wave did in Armada

no, this is from "Transformers: Victory" the continuation to "Transformers: Masterforce". And those 2 fusing there are Star Saber (new into the series) and Victory Leo (Apex Prime from MasterForce, died and was reborn as Victory Leo).

O am so tired of long drawn out transformation sequences. I loved it when they transformed fast in a form of fight techniques. Like with Scramble city when the combiners came together and apart to gain the advantage over each other.
