I wish Mospeada was made into a feature length film like this. "Love, Live, Alive" doesn't count, lol. The Shadow Chronicles definitely doesn't count, either. As awesome as Mospeada is, it's animation, even back then, was very sub-par in my opinion. With a bigger budget like Macross:DYRL, I know it would easily rival DYRL. Imagine: better drawn Legios and Tread fighters, cyclones, Invid. Mospeada definitely deserves to brought to big screen, at least animated AND WITH NO DAMN CGI WHATSOEVER!!!!

Many characters of japanes anime had their names changed for the european market ("capitain Tsubasa" for us is "Oliver Hutton", "Kappei" is "Gigi" in Italy, and so on)
as I wrote in my previos comments, I've never seen the movie "macross - do you remember love". I just saw the "Robotech" saga about 25 years ago. And, - I repeat it for the 3rd time - Rick was the name given to Hikaru for the occidental market in this "Robotech" saga, that was a fusion of Macross and other 2 anime series. If you look for "Robotech" on wiki, you can find all the info about the translation of the tv anime and of the movie.

@yuri142 No, in Robotech, Minmay was horribly basterdized and each of the original Mari iijima songs were replaced with oboxious, nasally english songs with horrible lyircs like "stage fright go away! this is my big day!" NONE of the original songs in Macross have those lyrics in japanese! Minmay's debut song was "My boyfriend is pilot" and is vastly better; the american english version in Robotech has totally different and awful lyrics and awful singing. Mari Iijima is 10,000x better.

I have seen Hellboy II, though. And, that was pretty good.
Comic book movies can be quite good if they're true to the spirit of their source material. But, they can suck if they "Hollywoodize" it. So far, I've been hearing good things about Dark Knight, though.

@pinoi78 I think James Cameroon can direct, but ONLY after he experience the world of Macross series, but still he can't make it without the original backbone of Macross and if they do make one It should be a new series not a remake so that it won't kill the series again, but again not without Kawamori's and Ishiguro's touch. Stuff like this is the reason that I'm such a huge fan of Animation, Japanese entertainment, and by extension Anime.
No live action (or CGI) spaceship battle can look this beautiful, or have this kind of elegant imagery. That kind of beauty just has to be hand-drawn! Live-action spaceship battles look cool, but not pretty.
Also, no mainstream American film would ever have a beautiful love song play during an action sequence. American culture is just too macho for that.
This and Macross Plus were both great. I don't know who was in charge with Macross zero and Macross 7, but they are definitely steering the franchise in a bad direction.
Now I'm something of a metal-head, but I think this is the best song, from the best anime of all time as far as I'm concerned. Extremely glad I was able to get the DVD since my fansub was getting too old and was apparently missing some key scenes.
It's cuz people would realize how great Macross is compared to Robotech. I shown the tv series and DYRL movie to a huge Robotech fan and his mouth dropped. Let's just say he's a Robotech fan no more. DYRL is an icon in anime history and still better than most anime movie releases nowadays. Naruto movie?? ppppfffttt w/e

Minmay's debut song was "My boyfriend is pilot" and is vastly better; the american english version in Robotech has totally different and awful lyrics and awful singing. Mari Iijima is 10,000x better.

@ShadowArtist Is that so ? my mistake then, I've seen it but didn't go along and drop watching it, In my country they use Malay dubbers but keep the original Japanese songs, I thougt they keep Minmay as it was in English, sad.

is a classic beauty, it bring lots memory in my life and my girlfriend. u don't find a girl like mimmay in US. luckly I had a chinese girl like mimmay in my life, she was just innocent and sweet like her. when I listen to this song it share my tears such bitter sweetness of relationship. I think is still the best because there is such sweetness of love that u just love it so much and don't find in the new Macross. both story, character and mechanically

Live action Macross? I don't think Hollywood has the brains or the balls to do it correctly.
As much as I'd love to see it on the big screen it'll never happen.
There's no way to translate the love that went into making this movie.
Ishiguro's brilliant directing.
Kawamori's timeless mecha designs.
Itano's choreographed fight scenes.
Miyatake's gorgeous capital ships.
Mikimoto's perfect character designs.
Iijima's beautiful singing voice.
The list could go on and on....

I have seen Hellboy II, though. And, that was pretty good.
Comic book movies can be quite good if they're true to the spirit of their source material. But, they can suck if they "Hollywoodize" it. So far, I've been hearing good things about Dark Knight, though.

@pinoi78 I think James Cameroon can direct, but ONLY after he experience the world of Macross series, but still he can't make it without the original backbone of Macross and if they do make one It should be a new series not a remake so that it won't kill the series again, but again not without Kawamori's and Ishiguro's touch. Since Macross is not entirely Japanese characters. But then It will be compared to Star Wars, haha,

Stuff like this is the reason that I'm such a huge fan of Animation, Japanese entertainment, and by extension Anime.
No live action (or CGI) spaceship battle can look this beautiful, or have this kind of elegant imagery. That kind of beauty just has to be hand-drawn! Live-action spaceship battles look cool, but not pretty.
Also, no mainstream American film would ever have a beautiful love song play during an action sequence. American culture is just too macho for that.

If you watch both of them, you dont need explanation.
Actually, not only Top Gun but many Hollywood movies has copied Itano Circus.
And, in general Sci-Fi movies in the States are mostly influenced by anime. Matrix & Ghost in the Shell, Starship Troopers & Macross and so one,

This and Macross Plus were both great. I don't know who was in charge with Macross zero and Macross 7, but they are definitely steering the franchise in a bad direction.

Now I'm something of a metal-head, but I think this is the best song, from the best anime of all time as far as I'm concerned. Extremely glad I was able to get the DVD since my fansub was getting too old and was apparently missing some key scenes.

It's cuz people would realize how great Macross is compared to Robotech. I shown the tv series and DYRL movie to a huge Robotech fan and his mouth dropped. Let's just say he's a Robotech fan no more. DYRL is an icon in anime history and still better than most anime movie releases nowadays. Naruto movie?? ppppfffttt w/e

there is a detail on this movie when hikaru goes to kill bodolza he shoot his missils well.. in one missil appear a person and in the other appears a propagand to BUDWEISER (beer) nobody nows if is a propgand to the beer or is only a joke.. other detail is when hikaru goes to save minmay in macross city his valkyrie destroys a propagand to TNS tatsunoku productions
