I have heard that growl used in other Disney movies like The Rescuers with Nero and Brutus and in The Jungle Book with Shere Khan. I seriously want to know how they made it or where it came from.
Candy Candido did the bear's vocal effects. Not to mention Brutus, Nero, and Shere Khan. He also did Fidget the bat from The Great Mouse Detective and the Crocodile from Robin Hood. He was the Frank Welker of Disney.
There's this one thing I've noticed since I was a kid in this scene. At 2:40 the bear's face looks like Bagheera from The Jungle Book, and then the growl that follows sounds like it's saying "Take this!". Pretty weird huh?
@nobodysperfect06 I know Bagheera's a panther. I just thought it looked like him because the shape of the head is similar and the fur is smoothed down in that one shot. It looks nothing like Baloo the bear.
@TheHeadbanger93 i bet they created this bear for the movie so that way kids would not go up to bears and try to play with them like Mogli was with Baloo, also, this Bear in the Fox and the Hound is dark blue just like Baloo, this Bear is like Baloo pissed off on steroids, so in a way, Disney's version of pissed off Baloo
The bear didn't know, he was just hungry bears are not evil at all, . As for those bear traps, when I was a child after watching this movie, I made it my mission to eliminate those inhumane traps, because I would not want an animal or anyone harmed in this way...ever.
I just remembered that Copper is voiced by Kurt Russel from The Thing. When Copper jumps between the hunter and the bear and bares his teeth, I can almost imagine him saying, "Yeah FUCK YOU TOO!"
and i love the loyalty portrayed in this scene. when copper's master was trapped and threatened by the bear, the heroic dog jumped in front of his master to protect him. even though the bear was like 10 times his size, copper still needed to protect him. same thing when copper was hurt and the bear was about to get him, todd felt the need to protect him.
a scene like this is so intense and so well done, it has my heart racing like its really happening, and i find myself shouting "go todd go!" when todd's trying to dodge the bear. its just an intense scene that provokes a response like this.
I think this paraphrased quote from Metal Gear Solid ss this scene up
"A cornered fox is more dangerous than a cornered dog".
