Carole was ahead of her time - cool, witty, just a doll. Gable is just impossibly handsome here - and he was gorgeous (as was Carole). Thanks for posting.
@indelicatelypristine i know Aren't they too cute! It's like watching them in real life. Doesn't he seem different towards Carole in this fim? He never acted this way...he is usually rough & so on ya know. It' as almost he had something for her then. Who knew they'd be married a few trs later!!! <3 <3
I love how handsome clark gable looks with that perenially smiling expression on his face..especially when he looks at Carol..you can tell so easily they are already in love.
I doubt that. For one thing, he so wanted to see his son being born, but he sadly had a heart attack. Also, I've read he was pretty shy and humble in real life.
yeah that's true, he was shy and humble, and when he was playing Rhett, he was like " the studio best friend" of Carrie King, the little Bonnie Blue Butler. When she grow up, she said that she had great memories of him
I haven't seen this movie of them- Gable & Lombard together...will have to rent the dvd on this in the future. It really is sad, that Carole Lombard died so young...truly tragic.
You're welcome! They were terrific! Clark well Jerry seems to act different towards Carole (Connie) in this film, not like any other woman he has acted with. It's almost as if he had feelings for her & they seemed sooo comfortable with each other in thier scenes together!! Who knew they would marry years later!
Yes, especially because they did not begin this relationship until 4 years later. It's quite unusual that they did not fall for each other earlier. But I truly regret that Carole was never given Oscar. I mean she should have been nominated for the second time for "To be or not to be".
Can you imagine what Clark must have felt when fieldsie gave Clark the fifth and final last letter to Clark, remember? Carole wrote one letter for each day she would be apart from Clark, as it's been said, Carole died for love
From what I read,he couldn't read it-- he wouldn't! I think he finally did one day & broke down, that's when he started drinking etc.. He never was the same, his life, his movies. Still handsome as hell though!! Carole was a great lady, & the guilt Gable lived with the rest of his life-losing 3 people in his life!!
They look so cute together in this movie! I saw the movie.....terrific!! What great chemistry between them! Love Gable & Lombard, too bad this was thier only film together. Gable never got over her, he tried filling in the void with other woman that resembled her, but never really could match up...who could ever match up to Lombard...she's was the best!!
wow. this may not have been the point when they fell in love, but they seem instantly suited for one another, some amazing chemistry between them. man I am now itching for this film to arrive through the post.
before i read up on Clark Gable's life, when I was looking at pics of him i saw some of him when he was an older man and just thinking that something about him, beyond that of age, was different, like the zest for life he once had was gone. Then when i read about him and Carole and how her death effected him, you can clearly see it in later pics of him.
Yea, his whole life changed after Carole's death, he wasn't himself. He just went on life doing movies. He felt responsible for her & hsi best friend & Carole's death! He carried that guilt all through his life.
this was pre code..that scene was scandolous ...

My stepfather worked as an extra and stuntman and referred to Clark Gable as a "mans man". He had the utmost respect for him.

I always thought that was quite amusing at around 3:15 minutes where he says, "Some nights you just don't feel like Shakespeare."

Never liked Gable. He carries his body movements as cocky and arrogant, like in his real life. He didn't like children either I hear.

I don't have the movie, the only clip I have is from his bio where they just show a quick clip of it.
Sorry!!! It's hard to find really old movies from the early 30's. I wish they would make more. I wish i could post it!
