  • Yes indeed everyone....With linux there's a symbiosis between the user and the computer :)

  • why dont people do research before or get a hands on before being so opinionated and incorrectly judgmental, research the history of "LINUX", "WINDOWS" , AND "MAC OS" only then will answers be revealed.

Trick Question: Which one of these three operating systems does not have a good "UNIX" base/backbround?

If you can answer that question with out posting then you are wise. All real OS users and abusers will wait for immaturity posts' to show....

  • linux is for hackers/programmers

  • @tupacole I beg to differ. Linux is an OS that is for the people you mentioned but it is also for people who need an open source OS which most people will need as it can run most if not all software and hardware.

  • @tupacole and for me ^^

  • A Vista/Mac combo theme???/ (Pukes out nostrils until they bleed)

  • man, every time I change my background, I completely redesign the GUI to match it. it's freaking awesome what you can do with compiz, beryl, and the do dock.

  • How do I get that mac-like bar at the bottom with the shortcuts for my ubuntu 9.10?

  • Go ubuntu software center and download type in avant and download it

  • its called cairo-dock its about the best i use it.

  • Thanks, it seems to be the only decent one so far :-)

  • i have windows 7even and ubuntu 9.10 and i must say i am on ubuntu all the time...i even try pcOSX 86 but ,it wont work on pc...windows 7even is ultimate OS it have everything but it is to simple and that is why i vote for ubuntu...and it seams to me ubuntu is much safer then windows...so for the end i would say:ubuntu is like you have windows 7even and mac os in one ;)...you got to love it ...if you are not completely noob and used to someone else do it all for you...try before spit on it ;)

  • I agree to JumpShufflers ... .. Looks are good .. but in overall OS functionality it is 0....

  • why does microsoft suck ? x)

what can you do on a linux?

internet, msn, writing stuff and screw around ?

what can you do on a windows?

    EVERYTHING!!!

  • Answer to JumpShufflers

W.t.f. you do more on windows ? Games ? Well try google about 'wine' and take your replyes cause wine simulates all games and programs of windows on linux and with less resources.

And as a black hat let me inform you that i can take control of your windows box any time with my linux,on the other hand you can't even see/read my files.

  • Then you must know that it is an "emulation" of windows based programs and games, so many of them won't run as good as they are supposed to.

And that you can't take control of any computer (windows, mac, linux) that easy. AND whatever u meant, with taking control of a computer using ur linux, doesn't mean it is simple nor easy. So get ur facts right, and don't try to impress people with things they don't know

p.s. about the compatibility, even mac has something similar to wine called crossover

  • actually WINE stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator. and I've run many games and installed microsofts beloved DirectX under it

  • what can your $200 OS do that Linux can't?

  • @LSBE Ermmm oh yeah PLAY GAMES! MY WINDOWS HAS A FASTER INTERNET!AND ITS MORE USER FREINDLY!!...............Plus windows users dont sexually abuse penquins!

  • @darkervids euhhmm I just finished portal 2 on my LINUX-pc!

I got games like burnout paradise that actually run faster on wine than on windows 7

    and about user-friendlyness what's user-friendly about virusses?

after all most pc's you buy with windows are overloaded with crapware and trials from the pc's manufacturer which only slow the pc down. short-said: a pc that comes with windows pre-installed only uses about 40% of it's natural power. the rest is used to get the crap working...

  • Whats the Most Popular Linux Desktop?

  • Ubuntu is the most user friendly one. Other editions like red hat and mandriva are more suitable for companies. you can look up the differences on google.

  • ubuntu rules

  • will this run smoothly on 2.4ghz and 512 ram?

  • Depends on your gfx-card

  • ram is too low i think you need 1024, but best try it

  • cool

  • i am new to linux can someone tell me what version of linux this is or is it like an application

and how do you get it

  • this one looks like ubuntu, 9.04 has just release; and all you have to do is adding compiz manager and seit it up as you like, just for start, after that try plugins for that, cheers

  • forgot to tell you the dock us AWN (Avant window navigator), but you can also try doky from gnome do, or even cairo-dock see ya

  • omg that was so awesome i had acid reflux O_O

  • Linux is just to cool!!!

Only started messing with it a few weeks ago now, but since using it, I wish that I had got into it ages ago now!!!

Compiz Fusion is jaw droppingly amazing!"!!

  • its realy beatyfull

    is it a gnome?

  • Yeah, GNOME 2.2x and Ubuntu Hardy Heron if I am not wrong..

  • what is the name of that firefox theme?

  • Just type "black" in theme search for FireFox and you will find one :)

    I use "PitchDark" ;)

  • Macs (I mean osX) contain parts of BSD wich is a UNIX based OS but not Linux....

  • Macs are great but not every OS copy it...

its just anoying that every time someting cool and good comes out someone have to come and "MAC RIP OFF" or "MAC COPYCAT"

and related to the video its nice..but ill be good for a change to see a video with LINUX in action not only the GUI side and COMPIZ FUSION....

  • Man Linux in action is in front of your eyes...

You think that Linux is only best in GUI fun?

    You are wrong...

My thinking is that Linux Distributions are #1 in stability (I am thinking on popular ones like Debian, RedHat, Slackware...).

Games? There are games for Linux, example Unreal Tournament, Nexuiz, Urban Terror, WarZone 2100, Tile Racer...

WINE is great application which will allow you to run Windows applications on Linux.

  • why do you say that, because you just saw this NOW? lol

  • i'm pretty sure linux multiple desktop came out before Macs. Not sure though.

  • Yes Multiple Desktops came before Linux but then GNOME was I think the first UI to include multiple desktops compatible with it's own Metacity window manager.

  • there is no way that linux copied mac. If anything mac copied linux in some places. Windows copied the both of them.

  • cool but useless

  • Multiple desktops are not useless, unless you use your computer as a $200 gaming console.

  • big time and macs contain unix i think

  • Leopard does

  • Compiz-Fusion is unarguably the best GUI, but it has almost no productive function.

  • compiz-fusion is fun :) I don't use it anymore though, I prefer a minimalistic, snappy interface.

  • Linux rules!

  • ist das gnome?

  • auf jeden!

    aber schreib doch lieber english..
