My Mother used to take us kids to Withernsea for a week in summer, Moons field, where all the caravans were old railway carriages, lol, we thought it was great. My Dads family all lived down Bean street, now that was a community! I went to Wawne street infant,s then on to Thomas Stratten, frozen loos in the winter, lol. Brocklesby's rag and bone down West Parade, I think, they were the only house in the area with a telly, always had a house full of somebody elses kids.
@bonnieville100 thanks for the nice comments did you look at the new site or the old one my dad was afire dropper and boiler washer on steam engines so remember them allot good days back then
Hey nickladey, what memories. I was born down the bottom end of Clarendon St, right near the back of Victoria childrens hospital, in 1948. Old St Stephens square, Corporation field, Shellmex, Darley house, Railway sidings where my uncle was a steam raiser. My dad was a trawlerman, so were his family. Monument bridge, Monument fisheries, Minerva pier, ferry ride over to New Holland for the day, if my dad had got a good trip in. Train ride to Withernsea if he hadn't. Thanks for posting.
Have seen all 3 of your videos and they're great. I'm not a Hullensian by birth but did live their for just over 5 years and they were 5 of the happiest years of my life. Just before I came to live there there had been that programme knocking the place and many people were so keen to tell me that. But like I said I had 5 of the best years there, met many fantastic people and did so much. Have been gone now for not even a year and I'm "home"-sick for the place. God bless Hull!
Wow...Fantastic to look back at some of the old stuff..I made me wonder how many of those people are ancestors!..love it...god i can remember those trolley buses down 'essle Rerd..and im only in me 40's!

Excellent collection of old photographs, Nick. Well done.
The abondoned trolleybus waiting in the middle of a breakers yard was particularly poignant. Many of us older types remember those vehicles with affection.
