Great rules! I agree with all 6 and then some! you and your family's lives are not worth the stubbornness of a ill-tempered or untrusting wife. Thinking on what you said, how glad I am we got the powerpacks instead of having to use our gas generator. It's LOUD. Also, we're thinking after we get a few solar panels to keep the powerpacks charged, we might get a pedal generator, in case we have to stay indoors for some time. You know, still get exercise, and keep the energy rolling.
The pedal generator is a good idea. I could mount my Bionx electric bike to my stationary bike adapter, and hook the 36 volt battery up to 3 12 volt car batteries (in series) to charge them. Then I could wire them back to 12 volts when I wanted to run an inverter and turn it into house current. I have 3 different inverters I could use.
I cold use 3 position switches to make the changeover take about 3 seconds.
I liked the book but the movie wasn't nearly as good. You're right about the governments thing. One problem is that some of the governments will be totalitarian in nature and will probably spend their efforts in raiding (like the Holinists in the movie). Lets hope things don't degenerate that far.
Vention, Grassroots community organizing is an organic process that takes place on its own. It can be shaped, but for the most part it will formulate itself according to the situation at hand. An economic collapse is different than say fending off Zombies per say. The committee would be different. There will be many leaders to come out from this crisis, we have to make sure they are not from the same old political elites. Masons should be discounted as future leaders for obvious reasons.
I'm stocked up and ready. I don't want any part of a community. Right now, all my neighbors shit doesn't stink, I am sure they will be friendly when they are hungary. Like I say and I tell my wife, Were not gonna have any part of that. I will go out and barter for what I need and watch my own family and back.
Ya I'm in the same boat. I don't know of one neighbor who's stocking up. When they start getting hungry, my plan is still to move to my BOL. At my bug out location we'll probably need some kind of way to organize.
As an American living over here in Europe, I think Americans will do better, sooner, than people would here. They are more open, more accustomed to going out and meeting their neighbors and saying, we have to do something.
You mean a temp local government that can also bleed over into a better gov later. I'll find out when SHTF because they are all asleep now. Problem is, I am the medical and food person. I do know we have an engineer who could block off access to our street and handle patrols with the help of my Army family, But we would barter, come together, and it would be a blessing. No steps. Just leaders at strengths.
Need to find out where local utilities come from: Power, water, telecom. Quality of life goes downhill QUICK without clean water, and power is awfully nice to have, too.
Setting up a "well-ordered militia" ought also to be a priority, as those with no interest in the community good will constitute a threat to the common good. Crime is already on the rise, simply from economic pressures.
Organizing a genuine, concensus gov't would be difficult, though. ='[.]'=
Most likely, local gov't would attempt to retain control; state gov'ts are set up to run relatively autonomously, and most city gov'ts would bow to the state level, if Uncle Sam took a powder.
I suspect FEMA has a few ideas in this regard, and its functionaries wouldn't likely all bug out with the DC rats, nor would the military. Depends on whom you wanted to trust, and who could do you the most good (or the least harm). Lots of room for petty corruption, which MUST be dealt with. ='[.]'=
AND, who decides what rights individuals have to autonomy? We all talk about Uncle Nanny taking our supplies... What if you're organizing a community council, and THEY (having nothing to eat) vote to commandeer ALL supplies? I didn't play ant to feed the grasshoppers. Advice is free; food I've stored to feed my family is NOT. ='[.]'=
Exactly! The organizing system would have to protect personal property rights. Do you know of any organizing system (that's already written up) that takes all these problems into account? I'm a Diesel Mechanic, not a community organizer. I have zero charisma and when I talk, no one listens. I am a good planner however. That's why I'm looking for a system (like a set of tools) that can be dropped into a chaotic situation, that would help a community to efficiently self-organize
In Jamestown: "He who does not work, will not eat... for the labors of thirty or forty honest and industrious men shall not be consumed to maintain an hundred and fifty idle loiterers." Their compact might serve as a model.

YES water system very important. Get to know the home owners who have known the changes throughought the years. Get to know how to pump out of the system without electricity. Also learn how to clean water. Think. This must be done on a daily basis for growing numbers who will come to you in dispare. You will need to stay calm and act in crazy shitness. If you aren't afraid to yell at people, you will have no problem.
For godsakes DO NOT LET OBAMA SIGN THE FUCKING TREATY, IF HE DOES, THAT'S GOING TO BURN THE REST OF OUR CONSTITUTION, OUR PROSPERITY AND THERE WONT BE ANOTHER ELECTION. GET READY FOR WAR ON ARMMAGEDON, I'M NOT JOKING, I USUALLY DON'T SCREAM WITH CAP LOCKS ON BUT THIS IS IT FOLKS, THE END IS NEAR.

We've already got what amounts to a feudal state. I was hoping for something that represents the citizens for a change. I

LOL, ya I saw that one before.
First rule in survival. Never marry a woman who won't let you prepare.
Second is food and water. He had that hot tub for water and had food so he did ok there.
Third is, leave the woman if her stubbornness and ignorance are going to cost you your life.
4th is guns and ammo.
5th is never run a generator (especially at night).
6th is leave your home if anyone knows how well you're prepared, & get out of the city.
BTW, thanks. Yes its a new haircut
