  • I hate it when foam bits get stuck to my piece........ cool tutorials though dude, really helps me out.

  • cool tutorials i like the humor and this is very informative the only complaint i have is that you dont seem to have any enthusiasum when doing theese projects

  • @slizerdomecentral I do them at 3 or 4 in the morning when I get home from a full day of work. Plus, I don't want to be an energetic phony where I'm so annoying, you want to punch me in the face. I'm a laid back dude. Just trying to be myself. This is how I would explain things if you were right in front of me. It's just real, no need for me to exaggerate my personality, as the info is pretty detailed on its own. Thanks for the compliment by the way.

  • hey dude great work! truly some of the best vids out there =D just a quick question, how many coats of the smoothcast do you usually use? cheers

  • @B3N1U I use about 1 on the outside and 1 or 2 on the inside with the fiberglass cloth. I don't use smoothcast 321 anymore though. I use epoxamite. Please check my other vids for it.

  • nice videos man i will use your tutorials for the fabrication of pars inside my car thanks for the videos thumps up!!!!

  • I was wondering, could you use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun to heat the inside of the part?

  • @VinceJDJ you could try, not sure if it would get hot enough but give it a shot.

  • what type a respirator can i use ? i have a 6311 paint project one will that work?

  • @narutorendan024 if it's a respirator, it will be fine. The one you mentioned is fine as well.

  • could I use carbon fiber strips instead of fiber glass? Also Im building a gundam helmet and the antenna? (I suck at spelling) and how do i put cloth in the antenna

  • @CrashTeamCA I think that might work, you'll just have to try. As for the antenna, just resin the outside to cover anywhere that it could leak and fill the inside with resin so that it's solid. Only thing I can think of.

  • @TheHeroTutorials by far the best tutorial out there

  • Do we really need the gas mask thnigy>? And also those paper thingy used when you print on it are those... some sort of plastic card? Please reply I'm about to start making my own very soon! Thank you very much.

  • @LoserMcBeaver you know, you could watch the tutorial from the start of the series. ;p

  • heat gun *cer CHAK* I lold

  • I had problem to began my project because of the winter! Now I know what I'll be doing inside! Thanks mate!

  • so should u resign the inside of the pepkura?

  • @jer9716 did you watch the video?

  • @TheHeroTutorials

Hey! Great tutorial videos. The best on Youtube in my opinion. I am currently working on a Carmine helmet from Gears of War. This is my first time doing this, and now I am at the resin'ing part. You used the Smooth Cast Liquid Plastic. But can you use Fiberglass Resin?

  • @Vexdin I said you could in the video.

  • "It's a respirator, so you don't die! So use it."

    :D Awesome line.

  • @Klomster88 It's the facts...

    :)

  • wait was that the smooth cast you used or the resin? If it was the smooth cast, is the resin basicly the same instructions?

  • @tqb43 polyester fiberglass resin has it's own instructions on the label, this is the stuff you can get at walmart. It mixes differently than polyurethane resin (smoothcast)

  • Hey do you really need a heat gun or can you just use a hair dryer or maybe is there any other alternative to a heat gun?

  • @quinjonesbiatch if a hair dryer works then...Awesome! :)

seriously though, it should. a heat gun is only 10 bucks though, you can get a higher setting than a hair dryer.

  • wish i saw this before i started my pep project(s)

  • @Nezahualcoyotl001 you could always try again :)

  • @TheHeroTutorials haha planning on it fo sho

  • @Nezahualcoyotl001 good!

  • i noticed u weren't wearing the respirator at all

  • @MasterAferit Hi, just for the polyester fibreglass resin. Not needed for the polyurethane resin.

hope that clears it up man :)

  • is it necessary to use the smooth cast in the beginning? its impossible to find a product like that in my area, and i was wondering if i can simply fibreglass the cardstock pepakura part?

  • @michaelnittos

you don't need smoothcast. I did mention the alternative.

  • @TheHeroTutorials thank for the tip dude! BTW, loving the videos and especially the way that you explain, very helpful!

  • @michaelnittos thanks man, I try to think of the little things that people might ask about.

  • ok so you use the fiberglass for the inside. can you also apply it to the outside as well? does it make it harder or is it not really necessary?

  • I just want you to know how happy I am that I found these videos. You are for lack of a better word my Hero.

Now I can become Iron Man for the Avengers premiere next year!

  • Okay, I used Bondo Fiberglass Resin and I applied 3 coats but when it dries its always sticky. Any idea on how to fix this?

  • @gundamexige you use bondo and fiberglass together to use strengthen the part?

  • @TheHeroTutorials I used fiberglass on the inside only and that always comes out fine. Its the outside that's always sticky.

  • @gundamexige hmm, maybe you're not using enough hardener? Did you mix it well enough? I'm not sure why it would be sticky.

I haven't run into this problem to have a solution for this.

  • This is super helpful!!! Thanks for posting!!:)

  • I'm gonna guess you are from Canada, seeing as you mentioned Canadian Tire :) These videos are good. Thanks for posting. Now just finding the pepakura models that i want to make...

  • I looked into it and since EpoxAmite and Smooth Cast gallon sets are close in price, would you say the are interchangeable for this type of application? Thanks!

  • @DarthVeach interchangeable in terms of how?

I just use one or the other. You don't need both. If I had to choose, I'd stick with Epoxamite.

  • how many coats of the Smooth Cast 321 do you generally put on each pep piece?

  • @Rommel930 You apply coats until you feel its strong enough for you. I just add one layer of fibreglass cloth. With resin over that. Then I add extra resin and fibreglass in places that need some extra re enforcement.

  • i read the distributor link and they dont ship too my state where can i get the smoothcast 321

  • @idotsome The distributors ship to places outside their state to all states. I just tried to look. Theengineerguy (the second one in the list ) has the product and I'm sure they ship all over the USA (including Alaska and Hawaii)

To be honest. I don't think you tried to search at all More effort next time. I provide the links for a reason. Use them please.

  • Can we strengthen the inside with fiberglass and all or it has to be outside then inside?

    Thanks

  • @MrNguyen117

I just do it this way. Some people do the inside first.

  • Stefano.. when you coat the outside with the smoothcast 321 it is ok that it turn to that white plastic color?

    cheers

  • @cultcollectables yeah man, just don't use it when it starts to cure as in get thicker. It will be tough to sand down if you're applying it as it's curing. :)

  • cool!!! it cured a bit as I was putting on and I can see the lumpy bits ahh well lesson to be learned :-) how long do you leave it dry before applying bondo or smoothing it down?

  • @cultcollectables I'd leave it for the next day just to be sure.

  • @TheHeroTutorials idk either tho the paint stripper seems to make the problem disappear lol

  • my fiberglass cloth keeps coming loose wen i apply resin, am i not applyin enough spray adhesive? cuz im sprayin it on kinda thick and they still move alot

  • @rikiquik hmm not sure. It's could be the spray adhesive you're using. I haven't ever run into this problem.

Also, these are just tips. you don't have to do it exactly as I do.

    Experiment with different things.

  • Before we put the fiberglass on the piece do we to apply the smooth cast 321 in the inside too or only the outside?

  • @MrNguyen117

You can if you want. It'll be 1 layer stronger lol.

  • Ok thanks

Love your work can't wait to see the painting part

  • My question is you said that we could use a dremel to cut the exceed of fiberglass cloth but can we just use regular scissors? Is there any alternative because I don't have a dremel?

    Thanks

  • @MrNguyen117

ah ok. If you check part 6, there is another option. but If you actually have some really strong scissors though and it does cut through it. Make sure to sand the edges down with sandpaper as it will still be sharp.

  • Can we just use scissors to cut the fiberglass cloth that is showing up in the outside?

  • @MrNguyen117

Sure, if they're sharp enough. I don't recommend cutting it before using the resin though. If that's what you're asking about.

I make a point as to why you want it to hang off

  • Wow, Thank you so much for putting this up. I have been looking everywhere on how to strengthen. This is the best video I have seen yet. Im brand new to this and cant wait until you show how to fill, prep and detail. Thank you so much.

  • @SarahStinson74 Np, That should be up today.

  • Whens Part 6

  • @nadeemspage should be up today :D
