@petkeeper0101 lucky i have to wait until next week for my local pet shop to have the turtles i want. i can't decide to have two map turtles or one musk and one map
Dont they make lights that are closed/boxed that would make the setup look clean ? Every setup looks great then they have the silver old looking lights sitting at the top with cords hanging from them. Dont they have hoods like on fish tanks with covered UV and Heat lights that are timed ?
Everyone who is breeding Mississpi map turtles, and have alot of baby hatchling and would like to give it away can u PM me and send me on mail, feed it before it goes on mail, put sign FRAGILE on box please thx
@soljers76 yeh. they eat, drink, and poop in the same water.. I have a good multi stage filter system and it keeps the levels at normal. and the water crystal clear.. I change the media every other month and only do partial water changed so i can keep the ph and other levels from going to low or high.
@ChadTtv Don't try to claim in 16 years you haven't been able to afford a bigger thank than 4 gallons? You're a heartless person who shouldn't have got an pet that you can't take care of.
@benjenings I'm thinking of getting the fluval 405 as well. Is it really worth it? I have a 55 gallon tank with two small turtles, would the filter create too strong a current for them? Thanks in advance :)
This looks a lot like my set up except my map is 5 years old and a lot bigger so my dock is bigger but I still have a 55 gallon tank. I think he might actually out grow it soon though. :O
To everyone looking to get one, know that its a big commitment and lots of responsibilities. Turtles poop and shed their skin a lot! Just know that, haha.
@jassony1990 I cant remember exactly how much i paid for him.. it was about 3 years ago.. Im thinking it was around $65 shipped... He eats mostly reptimin and he loves bugs and worms... He will not eat fish or shrimp though. i think i have the only tuurtle that doesnt eat fish
I can't believe some of these posts. Your turtle is adorable. Nice set up with a ton of room for it. Maybe some suction cup plants towards the top. I have my heat light close to the dock as well, but I only have a 25 watt bulb in it. This way it won't get too hot for my turtle. Not sure what wattage you have in yours. Just monitor the temp. and don't let it get over 90 degrees. It won't bask if it is too hot and will burn him. Post some more videos. I would love to see how he grows.
For almost any aquatic turtle it isn't a good idea to place tiny pebbles at the bottom of your tank. Especially younger turtles because they are so curious. It's nice to have them in there sometimes because many turtles like to dig, burrow, & play in the rocks. It may try to eat them though. Sometimes this is dangerous because it could get stuck and it would need a vets attention. Most of the time it won't. But it is a possibility. Take the peebles out if you see your turtle trying to eat them.
@RedEaredSliderCare just shut the fuck up im tired of people tellin others what to do with there turtles ...every thing depends on the turtle nobody gives a fuck what u have to say
Its good to see its not just mine that is vary friendly i have 6 redear sliders and there mean and the one map turtles she is an angel i ordered 10 redears and the one map turtle turtle came with em she has allways been my fav.
lol my turtle tank looks like crap compared to yours, your turtle looks so happy and energitic, while mines just sits on his dock and stays in the heat lamp light all day
It's not bad at all. The initial setup is what gets ya. Tank, filter system, heaters , lamps , etc. But all I have bought in the last year is food and a bulb for $5. He eats very little and is very friendly. I highly recommend a map turtle. Mine has a great personallity! Initial set cost $610 for tank and $450 for a good filter system. Maybe $70 for bulbs, heaters, and dock. I went all out. But if you want to you can do it for much less.
You can get a 100gal on craiglists for about 200bucks, and a good filtration system for 50bucks, and 50$for heaters, uv-lamp etc.. I did my 100gal turtle tank(complete setup) for about 250 euros.
I purchased nice stuff. And it wasn't off of craigs list. Lol. When I can I try to help out local business. Rather spend s couple mote bucks locally the off of craigs list anyday. And I was talking dollar. Not euro.
@benjenings i just bought a 75 gallon aquarium for 65 dollars at my local pet store. it was used but only for about 3 years and has a life expectancy of 40 years
really great setup! very clean! he looks very cheery and energetic too. looks like he gets plenty of exercise! i'd just lower the water level about 4 or 5 inches. no big deal but it will be better for his turtle dock basking spot. sweet tank. what is that filter? fluva?
Regarding the lamps setup. What bulbs are they using and what timer are you using? If you could give me links to the products that would be great! Thanks!
im now using 2 outdoor 24 hr timers for light, heat and o2, the bulbs are the exo terra 10.uv and a uv night light that emitts heat.. 40 watt.. he basks 7 inches from these bulbs.. hes healthy and happy :)
Im getting two baby musk turtles =] About 2cm big each. This week! :D the 19th hopefully =]] Maybe 20th! Got my tank all setup ready =]. I'll try post a video when I get them! A
I keep my water high like that when he weighs to much for the dock, get the floating log it hold my turtles an dthey are medium size they sell them at petsmart i have a vid of it nice turtle i have red eared sliders
can it be 75 degrees in the tank to keep a turtle bec i want to get one for my 55 gallon tank but i just don't want it to die straght away but i do now that you need like a roch for them to clime on and a heat lamp

If your turtle gets too hot while basking he or she just will not bask.. Get a thermometer and measure how hot the basking spot is( just move your heat lamp farther back).
