  • Jesus was far from being egocentric............

  • @blgcx200

Richard Paul and Linda Elder have stated SEVERAL TIMES in their written work that if you don't agree with one or two examples, then discard them and take what IS useful. Don't split hairs and nitpick and use one example you don't like to discard the whole thing.

  • Dr. Elder. Why do you use quotes from the Bible and specifically the personality of Jesus Christ"? Why choose a historically religious figure as an example? I don't mind examining philosophy or theology in the realm of critical thinking but I find it suspect that you uses Jesus as an example. What purpose does that serve? There are countless examples that can be used to make your point. I'm interested in this subject but think that it would be better served without religious innuendo.

  • She's obviously trying to show that jesus was an egocentric person. And since Jesus is fairly famous, most people would be able to understand her example. By her definition, all religions are inately egocentric. That's the message.

  • I do not think that she is trying to make any such statement about Jesus being egocentric. It is not clear that she is making such a conclusion from this one statement. The weight of her statement is on the point of egocentricity and that quote demonstrates the concept of "its my way or the highway" but it does so without answering the question or making the judgment as to whether Jesus way was in fact 'the way'. I think this leads one into examining what is truth and that is another matter.

  • To 1001apes: If she is not implying that the character of Jesus was egocentric then why did she directly quote him? The quote "I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one cometh unto the father but through me" is an egocentric statement don't you think. Doesn't Jesus think there is another possible path to "enlightment" besides through himself. Jesus essentially said "It's my way or the highway". That's egocentric thinking.

critical thinking can be applied to all and all thoughts and concepts. So why leave Jesus out?
