  • I know Ovations are really good guitar, but it's hard to beleve that a plastic back is better than a wood one....

  • Comment removed

  • @scarve89 i dont think its plastic, i believe it is glass fibre :)

  • No guitar in this world has a great sound ever.. There's only a great guitar in OUR OWN WORLD.. so its back to our own preference and taste.. you cant tell if you compare all the high-end model form all brand cause it has its own signature sound. I use dont like ovation product, cause the sound too artificial for me, but after i try the elite-TX model, i fell in love and put aside all my choice from taylor and martin because the elite-TX gives me a sound that i looking for..

  • @hybridpark32

I hope you aren't just messing around. I bought the Ovation Elite 2078TX last Nov and have been blown away by it ever since(my new fav). It's as deep a sounding guitar as i've ever heard, yet it has a complete sound all around.I recently scored an Ovation CS347(BCBQ),i liked it so much i picked up the KOA version! Amazing sound from a mid depth bowl.I've been saying that Ovations plugged in can't b beat, but unplugged percussive style i play,i still prefer Ovation

  • oops, i just damn repeated myself in a previous post sorry. Seriously though,to all those who are hesitant to even try an Ovation because of stereotypical banter, please try one, on that note, i would say at the least try the ones that are mid depth to deep bowl, and bass side soundholes. To each his own, but i know that alot will not even try because of opinion...

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Yow dude, i'm not messing around.. i saw all the comments below like comparing all the guitar model, so i'm just saying that each guitar is based on our own taste and preference only, not by comparing each other. I also bought the Ovation same like yours, white color and Korea made and it blew me away cause i cant find that sound character in Taylor and Martin although both are awesome, but i;ve made up my mind to bought the Ovation 2078TX...:) Long live Ovation!

  • @hybridpark32

i meant no disrespect, it's just hard to find many open minded people per Ovation. It's cool when someone mentions the Elite TX series, particularly the 2078TX, which may be my favorite guitar. And i've always said people should keep their minds open, so any people don't know what their missing when they won't even try out a different guitar.

    Anywho, enjoy your2078TX, it's AWESOME

  • If i could the strumming in this video it would be... "!!!!!!!!!"

  • Compared to the sound of this video, this guitar sounds way better live.

  • @absolute0absence True, but it gives people an idea.... You're not going to have leaps and bounds in differences in the tone of same model guitars...

  • I have one.. It's a beauty.. and plays like one two :D <3

  • A bit too muffled for my tastes!

  • I have one of these. They have a kinda thin sound, to be honest. But that's because they're only $350 guitars.

  • That guy must be rich to own that many guitars :-)

  • What a beautiful guitar. It sounds wonderful, really loud, and they are so easy to hold...

  • Ovation may have a good sound (I don't think It's better then the rest but It's still solid..) but They are hellishly uncomfortable with that round plastic body.

  • @TheFuriousShovel

I agree...partly. I've had a few Ovations that had the 'tinny' sound, and i prefer the bass side holes(full, deep & rich sound) to the center hole. And to me the round body is more comfortable...to each his own

I also love the Takamine Natural series guitars(wow)

  • i have a clarissa, an ovation copy made in italy 19?0 and it sounds better than this

  • nothing sounds better than an ovation when amplified, for unplugged shit use an adamas ovation, bob marley used one, very expensive though.

  • @Joebergz94

agreed. I keep pumping the Ovation Elite 2078TX because it sounds as good as any traditional guitar(even jumbo's),and close to an Adamas($3-$4K less). In my experience Ovations with the bass side holes are stellar, and one can score a killer Ovation, i just scored a CS 347,simply amazing sound. It was down to 2 Martins,1 Taylor, and 1 Ovation,i took the Ovation.Plugged in they can't be beat, but unplugged for my style they can't beat beat, tapping & percussive...incredible

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA sounds like you have good taste in guitars :)

  • @Joebergz94

thanks,i just try and be honest with myself, stay open minded. And it sure sounds like you have good taste as well...cheers

  • This guitar sounds beautiful, diferent but beautiful. Don´t care about close minded guitar players, cuz your not playin for them, your playing for the honest people out there.

  • how much did that guitar cost????

  • he's not using the right strings on it. throw a few red brand on there

  • i have a good martin and taylor.thinking of an ovation.players play it all.and, like the player in the video,he makes it sound good.the kids will always whine.

  • dont like it at all...i miss the characteristic of a acoustic guitar

  • this guitar sounds awful lol

  • Ovations sound good plugged in,,,unplugged they have a very shallow sound. Their necks are great though.

  • @bsharporbflat There's a big variety of Ovations. Some of them have a shallow body to suit people who worry about them slipping off their legs etc. Some people claim that those don't have vibrant low notes. Some of them have a deep bowl and some have a moderate depth. People claim they don't all sound the same. Also it makes a big difference which strings you put on them.

Prove it with controlled tests. If you can tell them apart when you don't know which is which....

  • @jethomas5 I have owned a few Ovations, Balladeers, Adamas, Minstrel and still own a very old Applause for 30 years now ( when they still had the aluminum necks) so I know the product very well...although they are very original and beautiful guitars they sound their best plugged in. Deep bowl or not they can't compete a wooden guitar.

  • @bsharporbflat I don't think I know much about guitars. I do know a lot about experimental method. Human beings are very very good at fooling themselves.

If you want to know which guitars an audience prefers, find a way to get them to tell you which sounds they prefer when they don't know what the sound is coming from. It's a problem that guitar players might know the guitar by the way it feels, so the experiment can't be double-blind. But it might still be interesting.

  • @bsharporbflat In controlled tests, violinists who listen to violin music but don't know the source, usually can't tell which is a Stradivarius and which is a good modern violin. But when they already know which is which they insist the Strad is much better. I expect it would be the same for guitars. If you listen to good Fenders, Martins and Taylors with a variety of strings, you won't know which is which.

  • @bsharporbflat And if you listen to the guitar-and-string combinations that got the best ratings, you won't know the Fender from the Martin from the Taylor. I think it's likely you could tell the best Ovation from the rest because so many people say they sound different. But I won't know until it's tested for real. Many people claim they can tell Coke from Pepsi, but no one I've tested could really tell unless they already knew.

  • @jethomas5 Wow , you must play a wind instrument.... But you sound hurt. I did not say Ovations are bad guitars, I said they sound shallow when not plugged in. By the way if you want to sound more credible don't compare Fender acoustic guitars to Taylor and Martin. And lastly at the end of all this it is the hands, technique and feelings of the musician that makes an instrument sound like it does. Al di Meola certainly sounds better on a cheap model Ovation than me on a top of the line Taylor.

  • @bsharporbflat I'm a guitar beginner and I can't hope to sound credible about them. I'm pleased to see that you, an expert, agrees with me so much.

I claim that there are lots of important variables apart from the brand. Notably the strings. You point out that the guitarist has primary importance.

I claim that with controlled tests where you don't know what you're hearing except from the sound, you might not know which guitar it is. We won't know unless it gets tested.

  • @bsharporbflat Deapwavelio below claims that a test like this was run between Gibsons and Fenders. I haven't seen the study and the devil is in the details -- it's easy to make mistakes and fraud is even easier. But I don't find that result surprising.

Repeated studies have found violin experts can't tell the sound of a Strad from a good modern violin, unless they already know. Likely most guitar experts can't tell the sound of one very good guitar from another.

  • sounds much better when its set directly to an amp

  • sounds like......plastic

  • Personally I like Ovation :) I'm a Melissa Etheridge fan - and she has inspired me to take up guitar lessons :) Apparently I'm to be given an Ovation Celebrity for my birthday... I think :)

  • wish i had two of those!!!!!!!!! one to crap on the other to cover it up with....... i have played these plastic guitars before with the round back uncomfortable to start with and if you dont carry an amp with you everywhere you go you will get drown out by a starcaster if you think about buying one of these you should first give the money to a homeless guy let him kick you in the nads and call it even.

  • @guitarslinger75

Ever played one? you sound like the stereotypical ford vs chevy zombie, chevy=traditional and ford=Ovation. Uncomfortable(do you have a big gut?)? lol, the reason i looked at Ovations in the first place was an option to uncomfortable dreadnoughts.Just tried 2 used Martins,1 Taylor & 1 Ovation...bought the Ovation.Unplugged they are great, plugged are unmatched

    Try one out

Ok if i call you cookie cutter?

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA yeah owned one for about three days there still sh!t there so good that everybody that plays for a living uses them lmao......as far as the cookie cutter crap i dont care what the name is if its good its good if its not its not

  • Comment removed

  • so with this guitar, is a amp recommended? i really want one but dont want a amp tooo

  • @davidearlcook90 i have an ovation just like it and if ur not preforming u dont need the amp its louder than my other acoustics without one!

  • how much that guitar is?

i'm planning to buy it :))

  • @alfmed12345 its around $420USD

  • at this point id be bettter off buying a squire?????

  • this guitar sounds much better through the built-in pre. The natural sound isn't great, it's really thin, but through an amp, it gains much more warmth and depth.

  • looks like something I'd buy for my 5 year old nephew

  • sounds cheap

  • muchos dicen q para tocar asi no sirven pero en grabacion y q son lo maximo

  • I think it would be very good to have a video where you play the same thing on 4 different guitars without showing them, and let people guess from the sound which is which.

Something which is unfortunately more work, is you play one guitar twice and a second one one time, and present them in random order. The audience is supposed to choose first which one of the three samples is the different one, and second which guitar is which.

  • I've found that most people presented with 2 unmarked glasses of Pepsi and 1 of Coke, can't tell them apart. But when the labels are on them they think one is a lot better than the other.

Is it was that way with guitars? You can easily tell a bad guitar from a good one. And you can tell one that has bright high notes and muted lows from vice versa, just like you can tell Coke from grape soda. Can you tell a Martin from an Ovation if you don't already know?

  • @jethomas5 I guy did that with lots of gibsons and fenders, people prefer fender. Gibson fans couldn´t beleave every guitar they prefer were fenders, specially telecaters.

  • don't like ovations....nice sound ..but they slide off the leg way too easy hahahaha

  • sounds terrible, as ovations are known to sound

  • @dandeliontea7

Ovations are known for their great sound!

But Gibson/Takamine etc. users dont understand that bec. they are stucked up wih their wood-shit

  • @ShishaChris No you're wrong, professional and semi-pro luthiers that I have talked to actually can't stand the sound of Ovations. sorry!

  • @ShishaChris

No need to call something shit, just use what suits you best. An Ovation suits you best, I feel that a Gibson jumbo suits me best.

  • @ShishaChris Please tell me you're being sarcastic. If you PREFER the sound of an Ovation, that's one thing. I can't argue with your preference in sound. But to say they are known for their great sound is the funniest thing I've read on YouTube ever. Compared to what, a $200 Ibanez acoustic? Also, Gibson and Takamine are not even in the same universe so they deserve more separation than a "/". Listen to the guitar in this video and then check out the video of him playing a Gibson J45.

  • @ChrisPiccoMusic

    It´s only a video!!!!

Listen to an Ovation in real, with good strings on it, and then, we write again ;)

  • @ShishaChris Wood has better resonance abilities. I you thinking that way why all the best guitar producents dont make thair guitar from plastic? COZ ITS SHIT thats why...

  • @mateuszacz

Thats true. But could you afford an ovation WHEN IT WOULD HAVE A ROUND WOOD BODY? I dont think so, and Ovation makes a great Job and wonderful sounding guitars. Takamine, etc... cant do this!!

  • @dandeliontea7 Thats what most people thing about steel strings guitars. But I like them.

  • @60smusicforever11 Well I might be wrong.. but I'm pretty sure this has nylon strings in, and nylon is a type of plastic. Plastic strings that sound like plastic??? Herpdy derp, who would have thought?

  • Theres no point in mic'ing a guitar like this. It has very little natural acoustic projection. It was designed and built to be plugged into a PA or acoustic amp.

  • try playing an ovation plugged and you'll see why these guitars were invented. unplugged, they sound just like a beginners guitar.

  • yuck so glad i didn't get one of these.

  • First, thanks for all of these well produced comparisions; great work. The player is to commended as well. However, with 44 years of playing experience and after listening to all of them I can't detect a $200 difference in sound quality much less Thousands. The ability of the player is key along with proper string selection. I think a lot of would be players are throwing good money away for very small differences in sound quality. Even the Ovation sounded good. Sorry!!!

  • @1cleandude Go listen to the Gibson J45 video and tell me there isn't a difference...

  • Comment removed

  • well again I am not excited about Ovation's sound ... it even hurts my ears ... if plastic, than better carbon fibre like Blackbird that as a great sound and one can take the instrument where ever one wants to travel and it keeps its tuning ...

  • Like a child's toy, plastic piece of shit. Used for shit music.

  • @bluegrasssingingman al di meola plays one so many many other

  • @BayouBluesMan So they like junk. The kind of music they play it doesn't matter. These guitars sound like a trash can. They will never compare,or come close to a solid wood guitar. The only fiberglass I want is in a fishing rod,and a boat.

  • @ShishaChris Stay in your closet Homo.

  • @bluegrasssingingman

    I´ll do that dude ;)

  • Ovations are so uncomfortable !

  • its really dull and flat-sounding to me....

  • i like this sound but its not a typical blues sound

  • not an ovation fan:/ while i respect the plastic back having a different sound, i just don't prefer it. mostly harsh. they can get some warm sounds, but mostly harsh, which i guess is good if thats your style. to each his own

  • Not to sound sarcastic but is that a question or a comment? The point is that time with your instrument is the main thing. If you can't play, a Martin or Taylor isn't going to help you. A good guitarist can make a crappy guitar sound pretty good. Having played since 1988, I like can appreciate both a Martin and a Taylor, but the Ovation is a very good guitar. Great action and playability, it can be adjusted to produce warmth or brightness. As Teezzur said, it is meant to be plugged in.

  • i just played one in the music store and this one sound nothing like the one i played i loved the one i was playing and i plan on buying it it sounded pretty nice to me

  • plastic.!!

  • I have an Elite Deluxe since 1998. I love Taylor but the Ovation can produce as warm or bright tone as either a Martin or Taylor. The action is superb. The rounded back is a bit annoying but you get accustomed to it with playing time. The thing is, Taylors and Martins are great but they will not make you a great guitarist.

  • @agloriouswreck :o taylor wont make you a great guitarist... dude?

  • First of all - Ovations are meant to be "Plugged-in" that's when they sound best... so to have a fair trial you need to mic the amp set to a neutral EQ and no FX

  • look even know there are some pretty mean comments ill give a thumbs up cause every one has there own opinions about guitars and sound quality i have a ovation the demented series and i enjoy it.

  • I hate the sound of Ovations. Listen to a Santa Cruz, Lowden, or Taylor and you can tell the difference.

  • I found the ovation style very hard to play like this guy does on his lap. Because of the round back it slips like hell when sitting with it .

I know that obviously you can wear a strap.... but I dont want to always have to do that . A freind of mine had one .... it was uncomfortable and the actual tone wasnt that good . I dont say that to be bitchy about them.... just my opinion . I would never buy one . There are so many guitars with a better tone and better to hold and a lot cheaper .

  • What wood is the top made of??

  • How does it sound? It sound like Shit, It is the biggest junk guitars ever made Plastic and Fiberglass.

  • NICE

  • I have this guitar and its amazing! I have played Yamaha, Martin, Fender etc etc and although they are all great guitars the Ovation felt perfect.

  • @craigeymac You must be high, Ovation has no wood in them, Do you realize that? They are plastic, and fiberglass.

  • @bluegrasssingingman

Mine has a solid spruce top.

  • @rubbersole79 So what, the rest is all fiberglass and plastic. Ovation will never compare to a real solid wood.

  • @rubbersole79 So what, the rest is all fiberglass and plastic. Ovation will never compare to a real solid wood guitar, or Laminated guitar. Ovations are a joke, nothing but junk.

  • @bluegrasssingingman

....and the neck is spanish cedar with a rosewood fretboard and bridge.

  • @rubbersole79 So what, the back and sides are FIBERGLASS,and PLASTIC. Rosewood is used on most cheap junk guitars. On the fretboard and bridges. Ovations has a sorry ass sound, if you like a tinny can sound more power to you.

  • @bluegrasssingingman

What do you care? You sound like you've got a dog in the hunt here. It's obvious your not a musician, as most any musician is happy for anyone else that's happy with what they play. And, by the way, my Martin D15 has rosewood fretboard and bridge. Anyone with one good ear can tell you they don't sound like a tin can.

Bottom line; you fail. Go troll your hate somewhere else.

  • @rubbersole79 I never said a Rosewood fretboard,or saddle gives a guitar a tinny sound.I know Martin uses rosewood on their lower line guitars. A D-15 is a much better guitar then your Ovation, and doesn't sound tinny. A Ovation is tinny, muddy, and does sound like a tin can. If you like your fake guitar. That is great for you. LOL I failed, how could I fail? I wasn't trying to change your mind, about anything. I'm right you own junk, you just don't know any better. You asked for opinions.

  • @bluegrasssingingman I gave you my opinion. I can't help you can't handle the truth. LOL are you sure you know what the meaning of a Musician is? Let me give you a hint music, not magic tricks. So I'm a Troll? At lease I'm not a Liberal Democratic Homo like you.

  • @bluegrasssingingman

Wrong again, never asked for any opinions and btw, I voted for McCain in '08. And oh yeah, while my American made Ovation was my FIRST guitar 25 years ago, I've added some better ones since. Big deal. They're all different just like the people who play them, but I don't have a problem with what someone wants to play so why in Gods name would you? Nothing else to bitch about?

  • @bluegrasssingingman there are no bad sounds,,...only different.....who are you to say who likes what vibration....you the vibration police?.....

  • @bluegrasssingingman Im sorry, who died and made you king? are you seriously gonna say shit about a video you searched for and clicked on.

    Goddbye A-Hole

  • @bluegrasssingingman relax dude the ovation is a unique kind of guitar which many people enjoy Ive never played one so I dont know but you dont need to get all angry at the people who like this. I dont like broccoli but some people do I dont call them bitches because they like broccoli

  • I love the headstock on this guitar! :D

  • no sabes tocar otra pinche cosa?

  • Comment removed

  • This Guitar is fantastic! :Q__

  • WTF is that?

  • this is the only one that's loud enough.

  • I'd love to have one. To me a lead Jazz guitar with action just right. The strumming stands up real smooth and distinguishable - not muddled - across frequencies though an acoustic-electric.

  • I have one. Great plugged in, sounds acoustic on the board. Bullet proof as to temperature fluctuations. Good electronics. Easy to play.

  • I bought the CC 44-SM and I dig it. I practice in my living room unplugged, as well as play live with it and it sounds great with a compressor pedal and a DI box. Country, rock or Bluegrass sounds great on this guitar and I've been playing for 32 years. I've heard lots of negative comments about this guitar, but I don't get it. I plays great and sounds good. It's not a Martin or a Taylor so don't expect to hear that. It has its own unique tones both unplugged and through an amp.

  • i have question about Ovation CC 44, i want to buy guitar like this and i don`t know what string does it use , metal or plastic ( because i saw on youtube this ovation with plastic strings) and pick that he use at beginning stick on his thumb how it`s called? any answer would be grateful.

  • @south32M4E In general,a guitar with vertical capstans, like the CC44 are designed for steel strings and those with horizontal capstans are for nylon or classical strings. Unlike the usual electric guitar which uses electromagnetic pickups, the ovation uses a microphonic pickup so, the string type is a matter of style rather than being absolutely necessary to the sound.

  • @MrMZaccone thank you very much, is there more type of metal strings if do ,is there any web site where i can learn more about them. once again thanks

    sry for my beg english

  • @south32M4E Acoustic guitar strings come in various gauges, the thicker ones tend to provide more volume and brilliance but have tougher action, thinner gauges are faster and easier to play and bend but have somewhat limited sound. A great compromise that I've always liked are called "silk and steel" and are a blend of materials. They are light and easy to finger but have the mass needed for a very bright sound. Again, it's a matter of applicability to style.

  • Why is this vid louder than the other? is it the guitar?

  • The "they're no good unless plugged in" foolishness has been around since day one. Only people who still spew that have never owned one. Of course the ultra-thin models aren't going to sound as good unplugged- but a 2" deep wooden guitar won't either. It's a broken record post, but the real advantage for the working player is how incredibly tough they are. Leave your precious pre-war Martin at home, out of harms' way. Ovations are great for gigging.

  • I've got one of these and for the price I don't think it be beaten. The action wasn't great from the factory but I took the shims out from under the bridge and it's pretty much perfect. Great tone, great action, good build and a great price. What more do you want from an acoustic?

  • amazing..

  • sparkling highs, the trebles on this one are amazing !

  • @SlapNutsPoonJab haha i think i'm the only person that feels that way about gibson. i love the sound and everything, it's just that damn badge i can't stand haha.

  • not impressed

  • Hey, I'm considering buying this guitar. I'd like to know if it sounds good unplugged.

  • @FallenIntoThisPlace That is unplugged dude !

  • @ilovemiself32 Wow, really? I thought it sucked when unplugged because I see a lot of comments of people saying that ovation guitars aren't that good without an amp. It sounds nice to me though.

    Thanks man.

  • @FallenIntoThisPlace Just played the CC48 pd. It is a little more expensive than this model. I was shocked at not only the sounds but playability. Sounds better than my seagull s6.
