  • thanks for pointing out that the unwanted advertising is due to the audioswap,it's very disappointing on my short videos cause you've not even the time to close the ad to view the video, now I will never use again the audioswap!

About the retopology it would be great to have 3Dcoat's AUTOretopology in every 3D program !

  • @theonlyreallaz That Autoretopology tool isn't really all that great. You get much much better results doing it manually and with a combination of traditional methods and the grease pencil retopology extension in newer blender versions you're not even sacrificing much time.

algorithms to nicely retopologise anything more than a complex surface are still a way away if they are even possible.

  • @rorkimaru I agree with you,it's like speech recognition or autorigging,I hope to live long enough to see them working perfectly.

Anyway you can use both the old way and the new and it's still a way to use your time in a better way :

  • @rorkimaru

I'm against all the unnecessary suffering, the computer MUST compute,it's what I've paid it for!

Look at this and think about what you could have done in all the hours you've spent swearing on a character rig !

    TRIPLEWmit.edu/~ibaran/autorig/pinocchio.html

  • how long did that character model take you?

  • @putthisonmytab bout 30 seconds, it's a makehuman export ;)

  • why does everyone on youtube use the same music, it makes the video not watchable

  • Bring Retopo back to life! PLEASE!!

  • well, i was afraid i was a stupid because i was not able to use these new tools

now i know i'm not the only one

i hope the developers will think about it

  • agreed. Snapping is garbage compared to classic retopo.

  • would everyone stop using that fucking song

  • @SonicSanctuary I agree but back when I uploaded this it was the only decent (IMO) one available for audioswap. I only used it because I forgot to put a stock track on myself.

  • @rorkimaru

    meh don worry bro.....

  • thanks to your video I found out about ctrl+klick and in Blender 2.54 it snaps to the surface. Works just well!

  • what?

  • Well, we're gonna have to stick to e+drag instead of Ctrl+LMB :( at least for a while.

  • In 5.3 beta, snapping works if you extrude instead of ctrl-clicking. But I agree, it's odd because a ctrl-click is basically an insta-extrude, thus it should follow the same behavior as a regular extrude and stick to the surface. I'd call it a bug. There's no practical reason why you'd want to work in snap mode whilst fighting one wayward function that's immune to its influence. Which is why I suspect it's a bug and not a feature :-)

  • in my 2.5 retopo works perfectly....

the name is different, but the results is the same!

    blender 2.5 rocks!

  • @Fu3r82 I like most things about 2.5 but retopo is not the same. I assume you are talking about the snapping tool?

Hold down Ctrl and left click out some geometry across a surface. Now rotate the camera and you will see that it is not along the surface but in the camera plane.

The snapping tools don't put the verticies along a surface when they are created, only when they are moved. This is a slower and less efficient workflow.

All I want is the ability to create verticies along a surface

  • @rorkimaru

when you are in -face snapping- mode you have to activate also the new icon on the right side, called:

"project vertices on the surface of other objects" :)

  • @Fu3r82 And then when you create geometry nothing changes. Try it yourself, hold Ctrl and left click out some vertecies along a sphere and then move the camera. You'll find that all the verticies that you created are in a 2d plane parallel to the angle you were viewing from.

If you grab them and move them they become projected onto the surface but they are not projected as you create them which was a major part of retopo.

  • @rorkimaru

ok, but just move/rotate or scale a little bit, like 0.0001 and new mesh will be projected.

besides, the have corrected some bugs, like the zoom problem and some visibility issue.

I think works fine (imho) meabe my way to use that tool is different from your one.

    peace :)

  • @rorkimaru its the magnet! ;) "snap during transform" turn it on, hold CTRL and then when you hit LMB in vert mode it creates the vert on the surface. i just found out ;) (using 2.57b)

  • @GhostInTheBASH I think it's been fixed since 2.55. The thing is when I made this it wasn't working well at all and the official solution was use extrude or a hacky move and replace thing.

It's grand now though, fortunately. Loosing useful features isn't something I like to see in software.

  • Retopo is a feature I just learned about, literally an hour ago, and now I've discovered its been removed. I wish they would bring all the features 2.49 had BACK into 2.5, otherwise were going backwards. Everything else about 2.5 is great. My only other concern is I get patches of unresponsiveness (02-5 seconds) that really disrupt my workflow....

  • @Blender3DProjects It's a huge shame. If they even had Ctrl+Click be mapped along a surface when using snap tools it would be ok but they don't. It's a huge pity but the problem is that the loudest voices don't use the feature that much and therefore those who do are robbed =(

  • I agree to 100%

The retopo feature was the thing I liked best with Blender 2.49

The new tools in 2.5 doesn't work nearly as good or as fast as the retopo in 2.49

I currently have both Blender 2.5 and 2.49 in my computer now and use 2.49 for retopo and 2.5 for everything else.

I really hope that they include retopo in the final version of 2.5 :(

  • I have no idea what this is.. even trying to grasp what this is makes my feeble brain hurt. I love your vlogs loads though.

  • wow i hope its just that blender 2.5 doesn't work good on your computer cuz i like the new blender

  • @johnshepherdsg Me too. It's a very solid improvement. The only problem is that they stripped a feature thinking that others would do in its stead. Shrinkwrap and Snap to surface are in 2.49 as well and there was a reason people used retopo instead of them. Because it's much much better (for this purpose)
