  • @Lengytam ROFL Foam becomes a warning...!

  • @Lengytam The eyes accquire goggles

  • My listening to this has gotten to the point where I'm speaking in nearly perfect stero with it. I say nearly because I have a cough at the moment.

  • The mantra is fully quoted in the song "Mind In Motion" by progressive metal band Prototype. The song makes references to Dune by mentioning other characters.

  • @xGuitarNinja I meant Houses.

  • Comment removed

  • The William Hurt version is truer to the plot, though it does look like they're running into financial problems by the end of the mini-series.

  • I do that whenever I down a red bull

  • That movie is SO WEIRD.

Ok, here's me watching it for the 1st time:

"Huh... I wonder when Brad Dourif's character shows up-- AAH!?!" *cringes away from screen, staring awkwardly at his poofy hair and giant eyebrows* *(adjusts to the look 2 minutes later and resumes normal liking of Dourif)*

  • why'd they give him those big ass eyebrows? from what i recall he was supposed to be effeminate

  • because david lynch thought it would be funny to make all mentats have big eyebrows... =\

  • hmmm juice of safoo

  • It's Semen.

  • @MorfeuV

I laughed for a solid 2 minutes after reading that. Thank you.

  • Actually, they have functional nav computers (developed by the Ixians) in the last couple of books, but Mentats are still being used. Miles Teg is a mentat, as is Duncan Idaho.

  • They had information storage devices in Dune, which share many similarities with computers used today, but nothing very advanced. Not even navigation computers for space travel -- they used guild steersmen high on spice for that.

  • @OneEyedJack1970 believe it or not, before we used magnetic tape storage, we used spools of magnetized fine steel wire. Google up "wire recording"! It's shigawire!

  • Did Mentats replace all computers or just the most advanced ones? With computers everywhere our life, its hard to imagine them being all replace by people.

  • I'm guessing all computers; they were pretty zealous about making sure that even a calculator wasn't functioning.

The only bitch of it is Mentats were in short supply, and it really wouldn't be practical to take Piter to high school with you.

  • But what about the computers in your cellphone? In your car? They can't squeeze a Mentat in those places.

  • Well, Dune was written in the 60s, Frank Herbert's ideas on computers were a little bit different than what you're using to read this comment.

  • Not canonic! but still fucking awesome!!

  • i gotta get that drink

  • Good ol' Piter DeVries. A twisted mentat. One of my favorite characters in the novel

  • It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

It is by the juice of Sappho that thoughts acquire speed,

the lips acquire stains, stains become a warning.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

  • It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion

It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed

    The hands acquire shakes

    The shaking becomes a warning

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion

  • @ RodCornholio

I am so sigging that! :-D

  • @RodCornholio looool nice !!!

  • I'd always heard the juice of Java, but the meaning's the same.

  • @RodCornholio dude, you've made my day! lolz

  • lol, I love that scene :)

  • I understand

  • I also believe I spelled it wrong, try 'kudos'

  • It just means like 'good job' or sorta like 'with honours'

  • what does: "kuddos" mean?

  • kuddos on the retraction dragoon warrior.

  • I was mistaken, he has blinked when he was drinking

  • interesting, he has not blinked for this 12 seconds

  • It's actually spelled "Sapho," taken straight from my hardback of Dune. Great clip from a great film. I love the books too.

  • The juice of savoo, liquid crack, lol. One of my favorite scenes!

  • Also, it's not really a crack-type of drug. If it can be compared to anything, it'd be more like a super-high powered amphetamine. Crack rots your brain, while things like Adderall make some people more focused.
