  • Sorry spun rod bearing

  • Spun bearing had the same problem

  • Spun bearing

  • That's not knock.

  • was it the valve seals or rods

  • I had a 2001 and on its 2nd engine. Than some how one morning it started and I heard the radiator fans kicking on, so I shut it down. Then I check the oil and bam antifreeze in there and it wouldn't start up no more. Good bye dodge hello Cadillac Northstar

  • Knew someone who purchased an '00 Stratus with the 2.7 brand new...Did regular maint. and then @ about 67K on the odo...."knock knock knock"...Had to completely overhaul the engine, and it still ran like crap after that...Eight years later, "junked junked junked"...

  • im going to drive my intrepid till it fucking catches fire. which will be soon,

  • nothing but JUNK , junk yard car , nothing but trouble

  • Crysler 2.7L...Great for making oil-coolant milkshakes...Lousy for engine life duration...

  • I Was Hopping To See How You Took Off The Top!!

Cos Mine Is Giving Me A Hard Time!

    Uhgg,, Help Please!

  • Its like a tiny mechanical man is fappin inside your engine, lmao

  • @birdmankustomz666 Retard

  • @2491cc Get a sense of humer you fuckhead.

  • @birdmankustomz666 That's not humour, thats just a retarded comment that a 6 year old would make

  • @2491cc Which says even more about the person who would reply to a comment THAT pointless and immature TWICE.

  • 3.2, 3.3, 3.5 are all WAAAAAAAAAY better than the 2.7.

  • 2.7 is the worst car engine you could have

  • sounds like a shell bearing.

  • My 1994 Honda Accord has 280,000 miles and counting, oil changes every 6,000 miles I use regular Mobil 1 oil. No smoke and car still runs like a champ.

  • Comment removed

  • I can for a fact tell you a big reason for crappy life span of a 2.7. The metal used on the internals of this engine are notoriously weak. As I work in a car dealership, I have personally seen on a head gasket job, An 02 sensor plug accidentaly sandwiched between the head and block and ran for less than 2 seconds. Mind u a plastic plug, completely destroy a set of valves and a piston. Any other engine would have chewed up the plug and spit it out. These are just poorly made engines. Period

  • what seemed to be the problem? ?

  • I have a 01 stratus with a 2.7 in it... Got 130k and still runs fine. I guess it was just a hit or miss with these engines

  • The 2000 and 2001 Intrepid with the 2.7 engine made car complaints 20 Worst Problem Vehicles list

  • dude the dodge 2.7l motor was the worst motor ever produced by dodge! google that shit son!

  • Google: 2.7L V6 Engine class action lawsuits consolidated.

    aboutlawsuits(dot)com

  • This really sounds like you didn't put oil in it and knocked a piston off or something

  • those cars suck BIG time

  • @fordforyourass i hear you...and dodge said it was the owners fault and wouldnt replace the engine, and the big 3 are wondering why people are buying toyota, Hyundai, and hondas, and then try to make us feel guilty for giving the money to japan or korea

  • just drive that thing to ground lol

  • Comment removed

  • just blew mine yesterday the 2.7 and 3.3 suck

  • @doggfish55 that's because the 2.7,3.3 &3.5 are all the exact same block.

  • Comment removed

  • im sorry but intrepids are the worst cars of their year. go on craigslist, half of them are 300-600 bucks because theyre transmission is shot.

  • pure gargage. buy a kia at least they uphold their warranty

  • DAM MAIN I NEED HELP WITH MY INTREPID IT RAN HOT ON ME I WAS ABOUT 15 MIN FROM MY HOUSE AND IT RAN HOT ON ME SO I GOT HOME AND I CUT IT OFF I WAITED 2 HOURS AND I TRYD 2 CRANK IT BACK UP AND NOW IT WANT START MY MOTOR NEVA DID KNOCK AND I KEPT MY OIL CHANGED AND IT HAD WATER IN IT MAIN I JUST GAVE UP ON IT I AM IN MEMPHIS BUT COULD SOMEBODY HELP ME WITH IT IF CAN ITS A 98 2.7 DOHC I PUT A TUNE UP ON IT BUT I DONT KNOW SHOULD I PUSH IT IN THA LAKE OR WAT

  • good ol american v6

  • Just because it has a knock doesn't mean it's a rod.

  • way to let it run with a bent rod u dumbass

  • I do not care waht anyone says the 2.7 in my 02 gets the job done then some i have had literly no problems with the engine and trust me it gets me where i need to go and all things considered quicker than id ever want to get there. these engines do not tolerate poor maintainece keep on top of it you got a better car than most people would be fortunate to drive.

  • @joesch135 you'll eat those words 1 day.

  • IT need a crank shaft and rod and loving care

  • 144k on a 2.7. You've been lucky.

  • @queensplazasouth i got 181xxx on mine and it still run smooth n strong. regular oil changes and tranny flushes and tune ups does wonders. 2.7 is the one i have 2002 .

  • You're right the 2.7 is maybe the worst engine ever. It is possible to make them last if you watch carefully for certain things and also use some AUTO RX in the oil each time. The worst thing is that Chrysler never fully addressed the issues with the 2.7 and also it has been proven that the much better 3.5 can fit in these bodies.

  • dude i just dont get it i owned 3 intrepids yet everytime with a 2.7 and i never had a single problem!

  • My girls Sebring is Dead too. KNOCKing on hells door. I am pulling it apart right now to see how much damage is done to see if a rebuild is possible. If not SOL. 2.7 Mitsubishi engine for chrysler possibly the worst engine ever built.

  • @bsivoljr It's not a Mitsubishi motor. The 2.7 is all American. The 2.5 was the Mitsubishi motor.

  • 3.3 Rulez!

  • you sell the fucking thing the end

  • big end bearings

  • Your lucky to get over 140,000 mi. to this point.

I have a '99 and at 180,000 kilometeres she just dropped the timing chain.

Water pump blew on it and filled the crankcase with water.

Engine shut down quickly and coasted to a stop.

No pre warning at all........what a mess.

The engineering in this motor was a no brainer.

They run to hot and wear pre-maturely.

Cheap materials and workmanship, real cheap.

  • This is a MITSUBISHI engine. The WATER PUMP is on the INSIDE of the motor; it DOUBLES as an idler pulley. When it fails between 65-75,000 miles, WATER drips into the OIL & emulsifies it, damaging the motor. It is VERY important to change the oil & antifreeze in this engine. NEVER flush the cooling system, just drain & fill; use coolant conditioner afterwards, and Check under the oil FILLER CAP for condensation. (Grey oil goop)

  • @BlueHeavenBound yo tengo uno con 150.000 millas y me paso agua al aseite le cambie las juntas de las cabezas y sigue igual crees que sea la bomba de agua o grietas en las camisas hay alguna forma de saberlo

  • I'm from Russia and have it problem in my Intrepid. Please help me!!! I need a engine 2.7. where buy it?

  • @zigelman3000 Try a search on the internet. There are several companies here in Americal that rebuild these engines and then offer them on the internet for about $2700 (usd). Or, if you have deep pockets, you can have your local Dodge dealer install a new one for about $8000. The cheapest alternative is to see if there are any scrap yards near where you live that will sell you a 2.7 that has been pulled from a similar vehicle. It will cost about $1600.

  • @zigelman3000 wow... i would just sell the car... 2.7 intrepid are junk cars here in U.S.A we go to junkyards & theres always plenty of those. my father owns one but hes a technician so he knows how to keep it from breaking... but yea SELL IT!!

  • knocking is cause by chain too loose and hitting the case. reason, oil sludge prevents oil from circulating and the tensioner is oil pressured so the tensioner is not tensioning the chain. these 2.7 motors r junk

  • camshaft totally damaged, the deeper knock is i think the crankshaft. how does this happen? BAD OIL or driving with no oil for a short time. refresh your oil more ofthen with your next engine. ;)

  • Engine knock is totally different than knocking on the rodsor pistons. Obviously people mix them up because they sound the same but technically "Engine knock" is also reffrered to as pinging and happens when you are using too low octane gas or your car is running too lean.

  • it's amazing to see how many of these intrepids are in junkyards. most of them have 100k miles or less

  • @pancakewafflebacon

I´m a big Fan of Chrysler LLC......but you´re right....i don´t know, why they produced such a crappy engine....

  • no matter wut they suck so does mopar usually

  • @josh666675 I wouldnt dare insult the classic name of Mopar by putting it on any new Chrysler product. Anything newer than 85 from Chrysler I wouldnt dare drive.

  • Just sold my dodge 2.7 with 197000 miles car ran great.got 32 mpg on my last trip to dc thats 600 miles from home in one day.paid 2200 for the car drove it 2 1/2 years put 50,000 miles on it sold for 1200.well looks like they all did not sux.I also pulled my boat with this car.boat weight 1500 to 1800 pounds.i will note i only drove pre owned gov. cars.my frist one came from the state of ga.got two more from gwinnett county gov dodge intrepid.i will say the brakes sux on this model car

  • It had 145,000miles give or take

  • Oh yea around 145,000miles on it

  • Get rid of your intrepid I had a 2002 and had to replace the head gasket twice in one month, keep burning alot of oil,and tire were eating up quickly...so I got rid of it..

  • rod bearings beleve it or not are very easy to put in

  • That sounds a lot like my 2.7 liter. The timing chain is loose to the point it misfires sometimes.

  • its a mopar. Thats all i need to say

  • I have a perfect solution for the problem, swap in a slant six!

  • DO AN STi engine sawp! :P (JK?)

  • i have the same intrepid. the engins make great power though they are a bit care intnsive.

  • whats is making this knock my 300zx turbo started knocking but only when i barily rev if i get on it and turbo spools it goes away its coming from driver side valve cover so maybe a rocker? HELP MY CAR IS MY BABY AND IT KILLS CORVETTES LIKE THAT! 282hp rwhp 10 psi 5 speed :'( help me

  • thats what you get for buying the base model. The 2.7 is meant for a Cirrus (700 pounds lighter)...not a overweight Intrepid/Charger/Magnum.You should have spent the extra 731 bucks on the 3.2

  • Since when are intrepids rwd...

  • it sounds like a lower end knock maybe a bearing

  • It does sound like the knock isn't in the engine. You could probably hear it real well with a stethascope at the bell housing if it's the flywheel.

  • i had a chrysler minivan with the same knocking. turned out the flywheel came loose. i tightened the flywheel. noise whent away.

  • my 99 intrepid has a minor knock... is it gona get worrse? i kinda abused the shit out of it today and it started knocking. but i drove it like it was a princess after i noticed the knocing

  • Do you HAVE to replace the crankshaft when you replace the rod bearings??

  • so yeah im a broke college student and i have a 2003 dodge intrepid se 2.7. where can i find a cheap engine

  • besides the engine flaws they are nice cars.

  • the 2.7L motors are complete crap

  • my car has this same knock. i have tore down the top and bottom half of the engine. I had no sludge build up, the timing chain tensioner was still good, rod bearings & main bearings good. 137,000 miles, pulled engine today and found that the flywheel was severely cracked all around the flywheel bolt holes. Less than $100 to repair, a little patience and hard work. I've reviewed several videos for 2 months before doing the repairs.MECHANIC $500-$1000 OR MORE! THE KNOCK IS IDENTICAL!

  • @ditch4568 was your oil light on also?

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 My oil light would go on and off. I don't think that was anything to do with the engine other than a faulty light. The oil pump, water pump and timing chain are all connected together if i'm thinking right if not then by oil pressure alone. I got lucky. My chrysler mechanic stressed only to use full synthetic and the correct weight, absolutely nothing else. thank goodness it was only the flywheel and saved 1000's of dollars doing it myself and luckily wasn't my 1st engine teardown.

  • @ditch4568 Oh because I have a 2000 Concorde with 92,xxx miles on it and I have the same exact rod knock and my oil light is on and it comes on and off but my check engine light isn't on and last time I checked I think it was leaking old. But I'm only 19 and I really don't know much about cars I was trying to see what was wrong with it then asking a mechanic how much they would charge to do the job

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 I took mine to an ex-chrysler mechanic of about 20 yrs. exp. He wanted to start with the timing chain 1st but wouldn't tear it down for any less than 500 and said it could range more depending on whether that was the problem or not. If he had to get more into it then the cost would increase. He said I was looking at another 1000 or more on top of the 500 to repair it.

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 I decided that I had change out a couple of engines in my lifetime I would chance it and do the work myself. Keypoints to check:: I started with the valvetrain checking rocker arms for wear, looseness, no problem, onto the timing chain, it is a chain, not a belt, it's not gonna break, check timing chain tensioner, it's pressurized and has a max on extension, has a ark at the max, no problem there, I went to a junk yard to look at some and when they go bad they usually come to piece

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 proceeded to the water pump, no leaking water in the engine and my car didn't run hot so I didn't worry with it, The oil pump looked clean on the inside and in the resevoir, was kinda iffy about that b/c when the oil light was on, it was only on at idle speed and would go away with acceleration but avoided it anyway because they're all tied in with the timing chain, I did not want to tackle taking that apart myself, Timing is very difficult to do with DOHC 3 separate chains

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 getting all 3 chains in sync isn't easy and 1 screw up and the engine is shot. I proceeded with removing the oil pan, pulled the inner and outer bearings to check the races for scarring or any improper wear. All was good. I couldn't find anything wrong. My last resort was to completely pull the engine to check the flywheel and at last that was my problem as shown in my video. I'm surprised it hadn't shattered into a million pieces. went to a junkyard matched the flywheel with

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 matched with another for $25. Lucky me. I chanced buying the car for $1300, 25 for the flywheel and it was fixed. Spent 2 weeks at 4 hrs per night and had a good running car. Honestly I loved the car. It was a nice G-ride, plenty of power and rode like a cadillac with the handling of a sport car, but the oil had to be changed on time with the correct viscosity and type. Oil additives will not work. Don't believe anyone that tells you it will. The oil return valley's are narrow.

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 Check the oil returns also, if the engine is gummed up, you got problems, you pull the valve covers and it looks like the day it rolled off the line then your o.k. there. Sadly, 6 months later a teenage girl hit it in the rear and shoved me into another car. She was texting, eating and talking to her friend that was riding with her. Amazingly out of the 1350 I invested I came out with $3900 on a totaled car and a big knot on my forehead from hitting the steering wheel.

  • @xIBaLLiNIx313 Believe me before I actually started tearing into it, I did my research, Most people told me to get rid of it. The junkyard I went to had about 6 or 7 all there with blown engines. I was able to turn around a purchase a 2004 Impala ls Decked out with everything, fast as all get out with a 3.8L and paid in full for 3400 and money to pocket. Like I was saying, Lucky me. Only time in my life I've had this kind of luck!

  • did you find out what happened to the engine?

  • Does anyone know how to fix the damn thing?

  • new engine.

  • Another busted 2.7 L. It's things like these that would make me wish bankruptcy on Chrysler, but for all those workers who'd be tossed out.

I don't think Chrysler's built a truly exceptional car in forty years.

  • they have but yes there 2.7 motor reallly just sucked dick . and thats why u never buy a chrysler product with a 2.7 motor because all there other ones have no problems.

  • yea rite. dont get me started on the 2.4

  • @lildaviid923 i have a 2.7l that now has over 160,000 miles on it, i by no means have mercy on it but i change the oil every 3,000 and haven't had a problem...it used to have a slight knock but not since i switched to synthetic, with tthat said the car has over 304,000 miles onj it now check out my vid of me running it all out

  • @carltoncanon

u should definatly replace your water pump thats how the engine break the water goes into the engines oil

  • @qwerty134098 its just a lifter, after i started running full Synthetic in it i haven't heard it ever again...

  • @carltoncanon

    what brand did you use

  • @qwerty134098 im using Penzzoil Ultra

  • @qwerty134098 Penzzoil Ultra

  • @carltoncanon do these even have lifters?

  • dang.

  • wow usually i see them blown up at 30,000 miles they are worse than junk

nice comfortable car though if u want to sit in your lawn

  • You can hear the knocking? Well, let them out who ever they are. hahaha

  • Japanese would easily last over 500,000 with proper maintenance...

  • 144,000 miles? That's twice as long as they normally last! Dodges attempt to remake the Chevy Vega.

  • it is a lifter stick

  • a lifter stick? are you sure? heh, i love typos. but nah, it's not lifter tick. i've got a bit of lifter tick on my engine, my valvetrain is actually quite noisy from just being old, but this is definitely something inside thats gone very wrong.

  • i had a 2000 2.7L and i drove the hell out of it. Toltaled it at 140000 miles and i loved that car had oil changed every 3000 miles and never had any problems. Now i have a 2000 300m and like it even better.

  • My 3.3L 1998 Grand Caravan is starting to do that.

  • 142,000 miles, well, you can't say it has not had a decent life.

  • 142K isnt really that much. my 89 camaro has 172K on the original 305, runs like a baby. my 91 cavalier has 143K on it and it runs great as well.

  • Ahh! Chrysler Quality!

  • Yeah. The 2.7 is probably the worst motor Mopar every put out.

  • @ncarter124 whats funny is that its not built by chrysler its actually made by mitsubishi

  • @g20s10silveradoman I'm not surprised. I know a lot of Mitsu motors are ran in Mopars but I guess I was thinking the 2.7 was different. I stand corrected. :-)

  • @ncarter124 the 3.5 H.O. and the 3.2 were designed by chrysler and mercedes, thats the ones you might be thinking of

  • @g20s10silveradoman

The basic archetecture of the 3.5 sohc V6 you mentioned was released in 1993. Long before Mercedes was involved.

  • @electricshockproof yes the 3.5 came out in 1993 but once 1998 came along with the 3.5 H.O. is when mercedes got their hands on it to improve it

  • @g20s10silveradoman Just because the "merger" happened in 1998 doesn't mean Mercedes began to influence the vehicle design, never mind create a revision such as the h.o. within the current production model year 1999.

The dates line up, but Chrysler didn't have any outside assistance to raise the compression, cast the block in aluminum, and create new manifolds to make the high output 3.5

  • @ncarter124 it would been better to install a 3.2/3.5L engine.

  • @ncarter124 whats a mopar?

  • @jawbreaker480 It's basically a general term for Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep, and the defunct Eagle. It's like saying 'GM' when talking about Chevy, Cadillac, Saturn, Pontiac, and so on. It's actually short for MOtor PARts, but generally speaking it is a general term for that group of auto manufacturers.

  • @ncarter124 how do you know this? btw God bless you

  • @jawbreaker480 Just general vehicle knowledge I guess. Google it and you'll find a lot about it. God bless you too. :)

  • @ncarter124 my intrepid did the same thing............I sold it for $400 and the dumb asses put another 2.7 in it!

  • @ryanb788 Lol, fix one problem with another problem. People amaze me.

  • @ncarter124 the funny thing is mopar didnt even make that engine its a mitsubishi engine thats why is sucks

  • @ST0N3R420X420 I had a 95' Intrepid and it was solid, it was a 3.5. why did they change to a 2.7?

  • @ST0N3R420X420 I thought it was a Chrysler motor.

Look at 'Chrysler LH motor' on Wikipedia. It seems like it's a Chrysler motor.

  • By the way after 100,000 on any car you can expect the engine/trans to go bye bye also you are missing a head light so I guess the car had a hard life. You wouldnt believe the dolts than never change engine oil and run with the oil barely on the dipstick, way under add...the intrepids were good cars those of you that have problems most often buy x rental cars so meaning from the first 1 mile they were driven rough and yeah, you buy a 1 year old used one you are going to get problems.

  • no.dodge just sucks.

  • maybe you can only get 100,000 because you buy piece of shit dodges.

  • Sounds like a Toyota,a 2008 Camry to be exact with 3500 miles....

  • 2002 intrepid.

Chrysler should be ashamed and hopefully will go bankrupt soon

  • tipico del los yonktrepid

  • Does MitsuMiguelMikey,(aka phdadoctor) remind you of one of those guys who likes to lay in a tub while other guys pee on him??? That's still not enough for his little piggly wiggly to get hard so his friend comes in, undoes his belt, drops his pants and squeezes out a linkin log into his mouth. His dick gets half hard, a little bubble forms at the end of it with a maggot inside that pops the bubble and goes off to buy a chrysler product!!! Am I the only one that sees that???

  • i had a 06 charger with the 2.7l

    shit loads of engine problems

  • dude ditch that pos and get urself a bimmer. if you want a sedan get an e39 5-series. Best four door cars on earth

  • i did end up ditching it, i bought an 07 impala afterwards, the 5-series is great, but i just wanted a cheap $20,000 sedan

  • i have 2004 intrepid with the 2.7L v6 with 54,000 miles on it and it runs great

  • You'll live to eat those words

  • oh really, so tell me this whats the deal with the 3.5L V6 OR IS IT JUST THE 2.7L V6?

  • the 2.7 is a total piece of crap.

Where is ralph nader when he is needed?

  • i have a 2000 chrysler intrepid with the 2.7L v6 it has 188'000 kms on it and i never had any major problems with it the most expensive thing iv ever had to put on it was a wheel bearing that was 110 dollars

  • I wouldn't even be running this POS, let alone revving it! My '02 2.7 runs fine ,change oil every 2K. 51k Mi. Still gonna unload it and get a '09 Challenger S/E.

  • LOL, sounds like a John Deere.!

  • u must of did something wrong...i got 215 on mine and its working perfect

  • I got 125,000 miles on my original 2.7 v6 (2000 Intrepid). No problems at all with the engine. Just had to make minor repairs for wear and tear things.

  • I had a 98 and a 2000 wit the same problem its caused by engine sludge. you have to use synthetic or your toast after 50000.

  • Well maybe you got something stuck in the engine being you don't have the air box hooked up to stop shit from going into engine. Normally engine knocks cause of no oil or the oil pressure is off.

  • Maintain your car and you won't have a problem. Don't be cheap. Do injector flush, oil flush, Coolant flush, transmission flush, and only use synthetic oil. Every time you change your oil, do one of these too. Keep it as a cycle. Never just get an oil change.

  • does anyone know where the break booster is on the 2.7L please

  • It under the hood on the driver side toward the back of the wall

  • thankyou kind sir

  • I just replaced the rod bearings in mine cost me about $150 for parts was a couple days work but if you have one sitting in your garage get a paper manual and fix it yourself. much cheaper. and even for the do-it yourselfer it isnt that bad. after doing it once I think I could do it in one day. if you have this sound DO NOT attack this repair from the top of the engine hoist it up and attack from the bottom. replace the bearings and try running the motor.

  • I got the same thing going on. What was the out come. People say Rod bearings, but noise sounds like it`s up top, and no oil light. Motors I`ve blown up had no oil presure left. What is the real answer here?
