Dirty hit with the elbow, to the head... Ok, Hockey is maybe a rough sport, we need to keep the head up avery where and always, but if those guy don't do things like that, there will be not new rule for hit to the head, so the game will be more fun, less penalty, more game! It happens to get injured with cleans hit, i agree, but when some times some guys just wants to hit someone to hurt him, this is not normal, it ruins the hockey. It's normal to have a goon who hits everyone, but not like that
not clean...read rule book for usa hockey...boarding. any time player is injured only penlty option is 5 min major plus game misconduct...assuming cali goes by the usa hockey rule book.
@GreenNeonDriver not that cut and dry. boarding, like many other rules, has a big subjectivity factor. you can see the kid line him up at centre ice and finish his check cleanly. it looks like this isn't too high of a skill level, not bad but not elite, combine that with hockey's physical nature the kid ends up with an injury.
tht was a boarding and since the kid got hurt it is an automatic game misconduct in all USA hockey, the check wasnt late or avoidable he was all ready commited to his hit before he lost the puck but he sent the kid into the board which makes it boarding, tht was the right call since the kid got hurt
That's definitely a boarding, plus it looks like the kid doesn't have the puck anymore so roughing/interference. Don't know bout a game misconduct though.
did anyone see the kid at 0:28 , he fucking tried hitting the kid and he was just skating.. like kid learn how to fucking skate and learn how to play some puck
He only got a misconduct because the kid got injured? Wow that's a terrible rule. That was definitely a bad hit because his arm knocked the guy's head but misconduct? I don't really think so. double minor for sure though.
I am an official ref for 5 years and I would have called a double minor for boarding and if he was injured it would be 5+Game Misconduct or match for intent to injure
Clear intent = Good call. Checking is to seperate the man from the puck. no more, no less. I wouldnt have called a boarding tho, Charge..ok. Even though he is 3 ft or so from the wall, its not a hit free zone when traveling up ice with the puck. It would more apply if he was not moving per say. It seemed he did lead with the elbow for sure which in my book gives the ref several more options for this donkey.
Maybe USA Hockey is different but in Canada that is a borderline Match penalty. High elbow directly to the head, pretty late, knocked him head first into the boards. The intent to injure the player was clearly there. But why was his own bench not screaming at him "Heads up!"? The poor kid got leveled and never saw it coming...
@BendersBreakinAnkles Obviously since the kid is an idiot for putting himself in that spot. But his head was down when he threw the pass, so he had less then a second to see the hit coming, that's when your bench or players on the ice are suppose to give you warning. I don't know what level of hockey these kids are, so maybe they aren't experienced enough to know that...

Personally after reviewing the tape a few times, the initial contact is the arm/shoulder then the follow through is the elbow to maintain balance. The elbow is not the initial contact. Where a penalty call comes in is the distance from the boards that could be called boarding. This is where many injuries occur. Player is far enough away to land in a vulnerable position and this of course was the outcome. Kids need to learn this so players spend time playing hockey than visiting hospitals.
is this usa hockey? ive reffed for 5 years and i woulda thrown the kid out if he didnt hurt the other kid for head contact. tht was de3finatly a penalty in the first place plus the injury makes it a game miscounduct which is different then a miscounduct, i was either a head contact, elbow, or rough for late avoidable hit, definatly right call
@derhalofanatic If you have ever seen a hockey game, you would realize that a hit with enough force will cause the player's elbow to come up regardless if you hit with the shoulder. I would know because I play hockey and lead the team in hits, and have yet to record a penalty
@STLxBluesxFan93 i play contact hockey as well, and your elbow isn't supposed to go above the altitude of your shoulder in any case, unless it's intentional, which is what happened here.
@skaterd1022 Wow you're dumb. If you would be a referee or knew the rules, you'd know this is clearly boarding and since he was injured, that's a major and a game misconduct (at least, in Canada).
@TheBoltingmidget but a blindeside hit isn't illegal it just goes to show to keep your head up and be aware of wo is around you. Also if your head is down thats unsafe on your behalf the other guy shouldn't get a penalty. But for this hit, First, it was a high hit. Second, He had his elbow out. I wouldn't call it a hit from behind though because if you really look at the hit he hit him from the shoulder but the way he went down made it seem lik a hit from behind.
@SuperMrkdog True but the fact he had his head down made it worse, in wich the refs took into consideration, thats why. And yes he did have his elbow up and it was a high hit as i said in another comment.
@TheBoltingmidget yeah i don't like wen people go out head hunting for people thats not the game! Plus the refs have to do something because the kid got hurt.
@SuperMrkdog Its like what happened to me, the guy came in from behind my left shoulder at an angle and he tried to get my head but he missed and caught my shoulder and he broke my collar bone. And the reffs didnt do anything about it. I was on the ice in pain and nothing happened. I didnt play the rest of the season.
@SuperMrkdog i broke my collar bone too dude. the guy hit me just like the guy hit you. you are like the 6th person that i talked to that broke there collar bone.
