I just signed the petition, and as an autistic man, it made me rage in a fit with gyrations. I fear that the problem is not that the officers don't understand autism, but not being interested IN understanding autism. The 2 years Neli got were 2 years too much. He acted rightfully in self-defense and, quite frankly, the officer deserved what was coming to him. At the very, very, very least, he should at least finish his sentence at home with his mother.
Police officers like the ones who arrested Neli are the reason why I don't trust these "professionals" who are supposed to protect your community. I am truly fed up with the judicial system in America. This police officer should be fired, simple as that. While it may be true that you should never touch a police officer, the officer should have left him alone after he realized he did not have a gun. I've been mistreated by many people, but hearing this story makes my blood boil.
its Amazing this same America that let Ms Anthony walk off has put an autistic man who has not committed a crime in Jail again, well let it be known that I have lost faith in the so called justice system! America In deed!!!
@mszeee I completely agree with you. And America is so outraged that Ms Anthony was set free. I wish we could all feel that same outrage and put the same effort and energy into the injustice that Neli is suffering
Wow this is huge injustice the officer had no right to arrest him. As an adult with autism this makes me angry! I know people might have thought he was sipiceos if he was rocking but seriously? The sentence is INSAINE! The family needs to file a lawsuit against the state! They can pay for his therapy.
I believe this is all centered on "Racism" becuz he is black despite he is autistic.The deputy and the Judge are definitely white how can people be so irrational towards the black race.he is treat as a criminal when he has done nothing wrong. how dare them treat him in that manner wen they have nothing to treat him in that manner. the judge knows better but he refuse the right to a black innocent man just becuz he is not white.how dare them. send me the petition link n i shall vote or signe

This is a travesty...my heart goes out to his mother...how do u not let his own mother not see her son..but they allow a school counselor to see him...a maximum security prison for what...the officer was upset because he got the wrong guy n he wanted someone to take it out on...I will do what I can n show who I can...and pray that he is released asap

If it happened just like it was stated, which Im sure it did. thats BS. Police have there place but there are a great many hypocrites out there google search Hacker arrested for having autism. A famous hacker who served his time was arrested later for similar reasins because the police thought something was wrong with him
