Man is this a bad design... They told my mom that this would cost $2600 to do? what is wrong with GM. Sounds like shes getting ripped off. What do you think?
All he shows is putting the turbo back on the coolant line and intake hose...
Doesnt show the important or difficult parts to put back on like each coolant and oil line and his methods if any...Also, wouldnt using a pick, even though useful, make a lot of cuts on the intake hose getting it on?
@sergsrt8 Thats what I was gonna ask. Im not sure if the factory sensors and ecu will just run the new turbo with same boost as old one or if it will run like shit or what? It may be a noob question but it would be nice to know?
@scottclements78 my answer to you is this. It depends on how much more boost the new turbo makes. There will be a need for larger injectors and maybe ECU flash, but that is only if you wanna make a lot more hp. If you just upgrade a turbo that will make 3 psi more than the previous then you dont need any of that.
you would be surprised at how many professional companies use harbor freight tools. Mainly because their dirt cheap and if they break harbor freight will hand you new ones.
I LOVE harbor freight. I know u get what you pay for but i hate seeing a body shop or mechanic shop paying 50 dollars for one screw driver. worst investment.
I didnt see you put any gaskets anywhere , do you need to put on any gaskets to prevent any leaks? all i saw was metal to metal is it true? im thinking of swapping the turbo on my WRX cus it started smoking etc...
@BialyOrzel777 If you look at around 2:10, you'll see on the right side of the frame a metal gasket. It's what goes in between the turbo and the downpipe. I also didn't see a gasket being placed on the turbo to uppipe but I'm sure it's there.
At 2:00 , why don't you just take the hose clamp completely off and wrap it around once everything's in place? Seems like ti would be less of a pain in the ass to me.
My record on a WRX is 27 minutes. In my driveway, with hand tools, in a light rain.
No bolts stuck, already had been apart 7-8 times before over the months before (trying out different turbos) so everything came apart easily. Having an aftermarket intercooler (which was easier to get on and off) helps too.
@davenow let me apologize i did not mean to insult you i just cant stand Subaru as a company their cars have major head gasket problems fragile transmissions and the company does nothing to solve the issues. but for some reason the love of Subarus is almost cult like and we have customers refuse to believe a Subaru has a design flaw.
@BEN1969350 so your sayin subaru has design flaws, ok. so does the big three! get over it. I own an oldsmobile aurora which is probably is by far worse in the head gasket area, but i love the car. lets take the beloved gm 350, its been changed so many times due to design flaws, performance, reliabilty and so forth. putting down another motor company isnt going to make someone not want the car of their choosing. MORAL: DONT BE A DOUCHE!
@anubisprince36 dude i ride an fz6. Ive never raced an wrx they only seem to want to race me when im in my pos 99 Saturn. im sure i could take one easy at least be able to hold a wheelie longer.
@anubisprince36 I agree mine has cracked bodywork and 250000 miles but there are two Subaru wrxs in town who wont race my bike witch is a twelve second ride but they always try to race my Saturn every time i run into them. I'm sure you wouldn't like these douches either in fat one was in the ditch this morning after our blizzard.i mean how can you put a Subaru in a ditch without being a tool.
I'm picking up a 2001 subaru legacy for dirt cheap mint body, but has 350,000km on it, yeah I'm Canadian... ehh? lol, it's not a GT, but I was wondering what would be the best engine swap I could get for it I want it as a project car
@katanamast279 That is actually not hard at all. I have done it more than once, the stock Bov is right next to the top mount. Only 2 to 3 bolts hold it on and the vacuum line. basically look at everything the stock Bov has on it and put the new one on the way the old one was
@tupaczdabest thats pretty good...looks like it would be a bitch to put back in...while i was at it...i would relocate it so it could be easier to get at
@skaterXboy1995 I guess if you have the money. and while your at it your might as well run an externally gated setup. but again, if you have a turbo that fits right up its much easier to squeeze the bitch in there as apposed to spending another 2k on relocating it.
@MEAKapc you have a point...i guess relocating it would be a little useless...unless you have the money to throw a big ass turbo in it like you said haha
Is it a good idea to put some sort of filter on the hood scoop to prevent bugs and tiny rocks from crashing into the top mounted cooler???? If so what's the best way???
If you have to, just find some wire mesh and rig it to the back of your hood scoop braces. I had it done to my 02' WRX and it seemed to work just fine. Does it NEED it? No.
i have a car with a front mounted intercooler and a wrx and i prefer the top mounted my front mount gets slammed by stones and bugs and shit i prefer the top mount
@juggaloshaggy i know its called a top mount... top mounts are useless why even make them subarus are retarded u need a front mount if you want an intercooler
@SRTR6 the intercooler is mounted on top because when it was designed the car was built as a rally car. and they fitted the intercooler ontop of the engine so if the car was in a crash the intercooler wasnt damaged. this ment they could also move the rad back to prevent that from taking damage in a front ender.
@nizmo7 actually in a crash the entire car is toast... that is the least of their concerns... the biggest concern is hitting debris and things that could rupture the intercooler or plumbing to the front causing a boost leak and slow them down... why would they do something that would make the car slower just to make sure the intercooler stays intact if they crash and DNF???
@nizmo7 but it cant be good for intake temperatures or cooling of the intercooler to have it on top of the engine...lot of heat coming up from it :) ofc they have the scoop on the hood but, i guess front mounting is best way to do it =)
@nizmo7 You forgot to mention the MAIN purpose of them displacing the intercooler. Its main purpose for moving it was so that the intercooler does not get clogged and dirt and such. That is also why the intakes are usually displaced.
@SRTR6 yes. less intercooler piping which means less pressure increase/drop and better throttle response is stupid. you forget that they have a hood scoop pushing COLD air onto the intercooler.
Just curious, But any way to Take a turbo out of one of these, and not put another one in it, i live in australia, and when you are learning to drive (P plates) you arnt allowed a car with a turbo, but ive wanted a Subaru for nilly my whole life.
If anyone could help me and anser my question that wuld be awesome.
@Outpost41 No as you will find that most state don't allow engine modification also the engines ECU wouldnt be tuned for N/A and would have a slower car than a NA one
@Outpost41 i have a forester and i love it! i dont race or anything, but love it because it will drive pretty much anywhere... i do a lot of surf fishing and have modded it to get out on beaches and what not.
@Outpost41 Um, What state do you live in? i live in WA and i own a wrx and I'm still on my green p plates. My first car is actually the car i have now so i have driven a wrx since i first got my license. Most of my friends who are on green p plates also own turbo cars and V8s. So are you sure you can't own a turbo car where you live?
Hey guys i have a fast ?. I dont kno to much about cars so i was going to ask people on here. I own a 04 subaru wrx. I was wondering if you could get a turbo off of a sti and just swap it out with the wrx turbo. would i have to do anything to the engine or can i even to that?
@Cmutt91 You dont have to do anything but i would suggest getting a Cobb Access Port installed. This is an upgrade to ur ECU and it will add more horsepower and recognize the upgrades u've added!
@49supra buy a turbo kit for it and get it installed, Or get a whole second hand WRX or STI engine and get it installed you need about $4K to 6K AUS for either option
Oh. Nice turbo. I have a stock WRX and in a year I'm planning to have it upgraded up to 275hp. Do you think the stock internals can handle that? What's that music from anyway?
well yah its easy when you have the exauss off but lets see how long it took to put the exausee back on im drunk sorry about the spelling and most people dont have a are life in there garage
@Brennaisforever what the fuck are you talking about? you have no "lise" cause you drink beer? you must be retarded. at least make sense of what you are trying to say when you try to offend me. and no, i am 22 and i prefer whiskey.
Most people making comments have no clue. The TMIC is a safer set up for off road racing, it's based off a rally racing. One rock or a small run in to a tree and you can guarantee a boost leak with a FMIC. Also the guy is running the Perrin TMIC (aftermarket), so i am guessing he already has a DP, Injectors, FP... and whatever other things ready to support this turbo. With his set up i do agree that a FMIC would help him out when it comes to tuning.
All i can say is, if you care about the customer, have the decency not to put tools on his intercooler, ever, or anywhere they can leave even a little mark. Most people don't use panel guard's to protect the panels and don't use a tool tray. Why ? It's not yours, treat the car with respect. It doesn't matter what it's worth.
@kyle1058 It really depends. There are so many different types and sizes, there are many different reasons you would swap it. In this case, he's swapping it for a much larger, but more efficient turbo than the stock. It's larger, so it will take longer to wind up (turbo lag), but be able to produce higher boost. The fact that it's more efficient just means that he'll get a pretty large horsepower gain, with very little more lag than stock.
also when filling up the radiator-- your way when hot and running will be at least 1 litre short. absolute bollox video. oh yeah yours would of blown up as you forgot gaskets. idiot. money mad mechanic......
what the hell are you teaching ? 5 hours to put a turbo on? i do it in 50 min. you DONT USE A SHARP PICK TO ATTACH THE INLET TUBE!! you never mentioned the fact that to take the turbo off you need to pull the turbo apart to get the last bolt out. (just the way they built it.maybe thats why you take 5 hours) why would you put the clip on 1st and then slide the tubing on and then try and fuck about trying to slide the clip around it.? all your going to do is weaken and puncture the rubber!!
@FFmichael109...no, look at 3:14 he has a sliver one, it's hard to see. BTW i found a fairly stock (Exhaust only) WRX with 100,000 miles on it, well taken care of for 5200, but I want to ask someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about. It is a 2002 model wagon (LOL, but it is much more practical for me, and it only weighs 80lbs more). Does it need anything (I would replace belts and possible some other things).

Oh. Nice turbo. I have a stock WRX and in a year I'm planning to have it upgraded up to 275hp. Do you think the stock internals can handle that? What's that music from anyway?
ChuckManiac 1 year ago
@ChuckManiac the stock internals will hold up far past that

Is there some kind of big gain from swapping the turbos? I'm not farmiliar with subaru's at all.
kyle1058 1 year ago
@kyle1058 It really depends. There are so many different types and sizes, there are many different reasons you would swap it. In this case, he's swapping it for a much larger, but more efficient turbo than the stock. It's larger, so it will take longer to wind up (turbo lag), but be able to produce higher boost. The fact that it's more efficient just means that he'll get a pretty large horsepower gain, with very little more lag than stock.

durs6 1 year ago
what the hell are you teaching ? 5 hours to put a turbo on? i do it in 50 min. you DONT USE A SHARP PICK TO ATTACH THE INLET TUBE!! you never mentioned the fact that to take the turbo off you need to pull the turbo apart to get the last bolt out. (just the way they built it.maybe thats why you take 5 hours) why would you put the clip on 1st and then slide the tubing on and then try and fuck about trying to slide the clip around it.? all your going to do is weaken and puncture the rubber!!

ya he knos a lot anyone notice he forgot the exhaust gasket between the exhaust and turbo????
FFmichael109 1 year ago
@FFmichael109...no, look at 3:14 he has a sliver one, it's hard to see. BTW i found a fairly stock (Exhaust only) WRX with 100,000 miles on it, well taken care of for 5200, but I want to ask someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about. It is a 2002 model wagon (LOL, but it is much more practical for me, and it only weighs 80lbs more). Does it need anything (I would replace belts and possible some other things).
Thanks!

why change a good turbo when you are not upgrading fuel injectors, boost, intercooler, etc?

Why it was nescessary to replace the charger ?
Normally a charger overlives the motor if lubrication was not faulty.
