  • What album is this on?

  • Love the song as is and as a break. Ramsey, you killin' em with this one!

  • to INTOJAZZNYC you and me both

  • Beautiful.

  • Fantastic song by Ramsey......this song is still requested in smooth jazz stations in Chile,Brasil,Japan......they appreciate this american music more than us back here.

If I was a millionaire I would create smooth jazz radio stations that would play all the modern and classics in all the major cities in the US, I wish my dream would come true!

  • I was in the studio when this song was recorded. Martin Yarborough wrote

this song. The arrangement is Charles Stepney.Ndugu Leon Chancelor is

the drummer.Mtume and Derf Reklaw are the percussionists. Don "Hipmo"

Myrick is the sax solo. Verdine White is the bass player. Jorge Strunz is the

guitar player. Maurice White,Martin Yarborough and Verdine White are the

vocals.Wally Heider studio Los Angeles 1976

  • iots a reworking of sun goddess i haven't read the other comments so someone will have made that obvious point I F*^king love it !! not heard this since mid 70's

  • This is MAURICE WHITE???!(writer) I' think!Earth Wind and Fire!

  • Dude !!! I need to be at the Islands right now.

  • EXCELLENT So much thanks for upload !!!!!

  • forgot all about this song..thanks 4 posting

  • great driving music ,during the seventies

my parents would take us on vacations through the desert, this music is awsome

does wonders for the landscape, especially at sunset..

  • @franciscojpalafox

That's what i'm talking about. Great music and natural beauty fit like hand in glove. Always imagine myself on a caribbean beach ,beautiful sunset, beautiful people and this gorgeous music playing in the background.

  • Lovely!

  • Classic!! we need more of THIS on the air.

  • @GMONY5 i agree totally with you on that

  • Simply marvellous.

  • I like This... nice chord progressions man!

  • earth wind fire jammed on this cut!

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure of what your talking about fast

foodies! Iknow that plus more! Ramsey

and Maurice have done quite a bit of

work together since he left Ramsey's band...sun goddess was one of his best

selling albums because EWF was involved...I believe certified gold...

  • beautiful

  • Music is an ever changing art-form. They'll always be a new inovation. Many jazz purist didn't like Ramsey Lewis' blend of soul but with Maurice White playing drums for Lewis the fusion was enivitable. Classic jazz isn't dead, but its definately on life support.

  • This is one of Ramsey's best jams, of course with EWF playing along!

  • my dads favorite song now i love it great jam

  • Afa Afa Afa Afa Udu when u Vodoo child!

This is on the list of all time!

  • RAMSEY"S IS GOOD CHILLIN MUSIC

  • Vintage Ramsey...this was from the album 'Salongo'...I've been trying unsuccesfully to find this album anywhere. A serious jam 'Aufu Udu' was on the same album. Brings back memories of the good ole days of the 70's.

  • The formidable Mr Lewis. As someone who loves Jazz with a funkier bass line this was my fav period of his. Fanatstic!!

  • Unfortunatly Ramsey Lewis' radio show on FM 105.9 WJZW is gone. The radio station is no more. Now Washington,D.C. has no Jazz station. WJZW was D.C.'s the last Smooth Jazz station. It is a crime & ashame that we Americans don't appreciate our own music. Jazz is an American creation.Strange Jazz has a massive following in Europe,Asia,& South America;but not here @ home. Let a Hip-Hop or "Crap" station go off the air;now that would be the end of western civilization.Jazz is ageless & timeless.

  • I agree... Hip Hop killed the R&B / Jazz star

  • It's not dead...just lying dormant and wating for some young genius to discover it and bring it back with slightly different twist for the 21st Century!--E,W&F said it best!

"Sounds never dissapate, they only recreate in another space & time!" Sly Stone also used to say "A Feeling Is Not A Fashion, And If It was Good In The Past, It Will Always Be Good!" If people stop buying that hip hop crap and boycott songs that use sampling, then you will soon see a definite change!

  • Thank you for those words... of hope. I have hope that one day, the industry will be driven by the art rather than the green. I love the EW&F quote from "I'll Write A Song For You". Thank you again, friend.

  • You're very welcome, and your insight about the music industry being governed by art instead of green (like it used to be!) is very astute!--Here's to optimism! (-:

  • This is without doubt one of the best soul jazz classics of all time. it has all the hallmarks of a true classic!!!!!!!!

  • Just one of MANY wondrous musical productions and arrangements of the Late GREAT CHARLES STEPNEY!!!

  • Oh okay, that's why it sounds like E,W&F!!

  • Is it Stanley Turrentine on tenor?

  • Think that Ramseys work was awesome in hes Funky electrical period, but he hit hes peak in mid 60´s, with Young and Holt. Try the compilation the "In Crowd" Anthology, with tunes like "Lonely avenue", "My baby" and of cource "The In Crowd", Me myself started out listening to him in 92´, and from there i went wide and deep searching for RL records. My favorite number is still "Carmen" from 1956, if i ever should single one out....

  • Maurice white (EW&F) on drums and vocals?

  • Si.

  • What a classic tune! Utterly unforgettable!

  • great

  • Brazilica is on the Salongo lp

Did you mean the lp Don't It Feel Good? that's the lp with Spider Man on it.

  • wasnt the name of the album from this vynil sunshine sound entitled "i feel good"?

  • Nice. Brings back good time memories. Good post

  • Love that bassline, Ron Harris right?

  • Salongo was my first Ramsey Lewis, and it won't be my last. Listen to "Aufu Oodu" That's the best song on Salongo, but this is a close second. This one's better to get high to, tho.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I always wanted to remember what the name of it was and what album it was on. Thaaaannnnk you! God bless you!! Also, this era and time 70's-80's had the best jazz. I still have some vinyl, but it's not enough. :)

  • i agree mid 70's-early 80's had the best jazz

  • Maurice White was a drummer with Ramsey Lewis

    that is the relationship..

  • I am a bonified EWF fan I remember meeting a couple of the Phoenix Horns in California 1982 at a EWF concert..much props to Ramsey

    Lewis too...

  • you know ramsey lewis does a radio hosting thing in washington, dc now... it comes on at nights--(not sure if its weekends or weekdays, or if its simulcasted across the country either).

  • also in houston on 95.7 tha wave on the week nights

  • aafuu udo....aafa aafa udo when u voodoo baby!

  • Thanks, for the album name.

  • Does anyone know what album this song was on?

  • It's on Salongo

  • This is good. This is Ramsey Lewis with EW&F. He did a lot of collaboration with other artists. Spring High, which he did with Stevie Wonder is a favourite of mine.

  • This is not Ramsey Lewis you Idiot!!!

  • of course this is ramsey lewis!!!!!

  • This is Ramsey Lewis. You will find this song in his album Salongo.

  • @rdquintas shut up----

  • i dont understand what ramsey lewis' relationship with EW & F is? whats the deal?

  • Before forming EWF, Maurice White was the drummer in Ramsey Lewis Trio, somehow that's his connection with EWF.

  • sweet bass line

  • This was a collaboration with Earth Wind & Fire. I love this tune.

They also collaborated on Sun Goddess which is a dynamite tune.

I just ordered EW&F's Illuminations disc of Amazon. That's got some seriously old school EW&F tracks on it that were heavily influenced by Ramsey Lewis.

  • Woooo Chakasmooth! This is one of my favorite jams by Ramsey Lewis! I love it! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for posting this. So much joy to hear this again after 30 years! *****

  • such precocious fingers!!!!!!
