  • Feel like throwing Satan out of his throne and replacing him every time I listen to this song.

  • @DemonFromPerdition haha. so true.

  • parents reaction to shift from acoustic part to brutal part:priceless

  • @3:17 Why is this the only Opeth song that has shred guitars like this? This whole solo had me thinking Per Nilson was playing on the track.

  • Or/eargasm @_@

  • OPETH IS THE BEST!

  • 0:40 to 1:10 Haunts me everytime I listen to it.

  • Ahh. All I need is a cup of this in the morning.

  • @lionpride422 You must be really cranking it, 'cause there's 9 now...

  • I like Opeth a lot... What I've heard by them is fucking ART :D

Never mind all this Black Fail Bollocks and pop-screamo shit.... They can't hold a candle.

  • @MrMike0113 as far as I know, Blackwater Park is the only other one without clean vocals

  • @sombraluar I did some research after I wrote this comment and I discovered that Blackwater Park contains some cleans in the background during the guitar break at around 4 minutes in. It seems that Heir Apparent is indeed the only Opeth song that is made up entirely of death growls.

  • @MrMike0113 Are you talking about those whispers that last a couple of seconds? I would hardly consider that vocals, sounds more like the idea was to had a sound effect than anything else (especially considering 10 seconds in 12 minutes). But I accept if you think that way :)

  • @sombraluar Perhaps they aren't exactly clean vocals, but they also certainly aren't growls. As it stands, only this song features no other type of vocals at all.

  • @MrMike0113 Well, really don't feel like arguing this. It's fine if you want to consider that vocals...

  • @sombraluar I'm not intending to argue either. I'm just saying that this is the only Opeth song that contains nothing but Mikael's growls on vocals.

  • @MrMike0113 You could consider the talking at the end non-growl vocals lool

  • @MetalMaple This song doesn't have talking at the end. The Lotus Eater does, but this doesn't.

  • @MrMike0113 my bad, was listening to that just before this song. what i meant.

  • @MetalMaple It's OK. I doubt I'd ever make the mistake of somehow not noticing the singing in The Lotus Eater, though.

  • @MrMike0113 Blackwater park doesn't have any clean vocals, and whats wrong with that? Theres many death metal bands for when I want something heavy but opeth is different!

  • @FirePower3006 I've been over the first point already. What do you mean "what's wrong with that"? Did it seem like I was complaining?

  • @MrMike0113 Yea it did seem like you were complaining because you said this is the only song without clean vocals when it isn't.

  • @FirePower3006 Again, I've already addressed this. I have no idea how that sort of statement could be interpreted as a complaint, though.

  • @FirePower3006

Wasnt Steven Wilson singing in Blackwater Park also? :)

  • How many other Opeth songs contain no clean vocals? Off of the top of my head I can't think of any. Is this the only one?

  • holy shit i love this band !!!\m/

  • Frederiks intro solo made me cum

  • outro part @7:22 reminds me of my arms your hearse album style! brings bck some lovely memories

  • So many people waste time by arguing here in these comments sections when they should just be sitting there in awe of how fucking amazing Opeth truly are.

  • This album was greatest extreme metal masterpiece.

  • @hashimali72 There was only three songs with growling. The album was amazing, but I'd hardly call it extreme metal.

  • holy satan opeth is so boring

  • @kingu85 oepth is a genius band, you are boring

  • @kingu85 Don't like them, don't listen to them. Simple. A lot more people like Opeth than they hate them, so your opinion is worth jackshit.

  • @TheUnforgiven676 no...more people dislike this genre than people who like it. It's to bad but that's the way it is.

  • @L0VE2TROLL You sure about that. Back in the day Metal ruled the world, now it has been taken over by Rap and Pop. I can agree with that. But there are 6 billion people in the world. Some like Metal, some like Pop and Rap and the rest of the world don't even know what most of this music is. So in my theory, most people like Metal, some people hate it while others don't even know about it.

  • @kingu85 Just give them Time, ;)

  • OPETH = KINGS OF DEATH METAL

  • Both brutal and beautiful like life itself.

  • Extreme metal: Death metal: Progressive death metal rules!!!!!!

  • great song !

  • "The insect trust, BELIEBER!"

  • Ciemny tunelu przybywaj!

  • Any of the guitarists watchin this vid.....try soloing over the outro in B minor. Epic!

  • @Shredkev holy shit sounds amazing O.o

  • @Shredkev i dont think it needs one, that lead fits perfectly :)

  • Don't listen to this high... Fucks you up

  • @deatlefOo That sounds like a recommendation to me!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 7:21, i said my god my god my god, take meee

  • hair appointment

  • That outro..... amazing :')

  • @lionpride422

Why "shit"? Why you're so diffidence?

Ahaha. You have good sense of taste, I assure you.

"Shit"? This may have connection with Slayer, but not with Opeth... though this melody is not specific, we know a better examples: try this --> "Burden", "Porcelain Heart", "Endless Credits" (VERY nice melodies, maybe you neighbours have a nice day with those, xD)

Also this: "The Moor", "April Ethereal", "Moonlapse Vertigo", "Blackwater Park" (HEAVIER "melodies", as you like, ahaha )))

  • @VladGuardian i think you got him wrong. If you say "Tghis is the shit" or something like that, you mostly mean that this is awesome.

  • @VladGuardian apparently your tastes are shit, Slayer is amazing so is Opeth

  • @pkpheanix7 Seriously slayer is shit, OPETH IS POSSIBLY BEST BAND EVER.

  • @hashimali72 Without Slayer Opeth wouldn't know how to be heavy.

  • @pkpheanix7

WTF does slayer have to do here?!

so you're one of those "true satanic thrashers" or something?

seriosly... coming to an opeth video to complain and say slayer is better? your life must be really boring... no offence

  • @UxFxTxBanger keep up, someguy said slayer was shit, I didn't bring them up, and I was asking the same question, some guy said opeth was good shit, them the other guy was like "the only thing that belongs with shit is slayer" thats where I came in.

  • @pkpheanix7

    then, I apologise.

and redirect the coment to whoever said slayer was shit to simply start an argue, and have someone to talk to... now thats sad

  • @pkpheanix7 You motherfucker Black Sabbath was the inventers of Metal without them even your shitty slayer would have not existed. Without Black Sabbath Opeth wouldn't exist also. SO OPETH OWNS slayer.

  • @hashimali72 theres a difference between hard rock and death metal, Slayer was the inventor of death metal, I don't know whats your problem can't we just agree that slayer and opeth both own.

  • @pkpheanix7 Slayer is thrash. Death created death metal.

  • @PcCAvioN Actually, nevermind. Wasn't only Death.

  • @PcCAvioN No actually Possesed created death metal, I said that Slayer was one the most influential bands to Death Metal. Possesed released their fist and only album in 1994 before death, morbid angel, deicide or any other band.

  • @pkpheanix7 You're talking out of your ass. None of what you're saying is true.

  • @BraydonSzafranski How am I talking out of my ass, Possesed did release their album first a slayer was one the most influential bands to death metal, if not them then who? certainly not Iron Maiden.

  • E Bb E Bb

  • FUCK THE NEIGHBORS !!

  • @manmademan1983 THE NEIGHBORS COME AND LISTEN WITH ME...!!!!!!

  • After hearing this i may now rest in peace

  • haha dove shampo comercial..... aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhrrrrrr!!!! first chord of heir apparent...

  • The first time I heard this was live, when they opened for Dream Theater. I'm still trying to find the shards of my skull to put it back together.

  • @lionpride422 lol

  • i hate that this song ends

  • the songs a fucking monster

  • Opeth DO have the most beautiful outros ever.

  • i have 6 addresses to look up, 1 shovel that needs to be bought, and 6 shallow graves to be dug in the desert.....

  • @madviolentchicken fucking dumb ass

  • Comment removed

  • @madviolentchicken

but you cant convey the emotions he is with singing, trust me its necessary in this form of complex art

  • @madviolentchicken Because Opeth began as a "progressive" death metal band. They made a name for themselves for the exact reason you don't like, fusing death metal and various (folk, prog, etc) elements to create an incredibly distinct sound. Mixing those vocal styles is what makes Opeth who they are. They are pretty much the reason I got into death metal, because there's a fine balance between the vocals that the growls don't overwhlem. To each their own, but it doesn't ruin their songs.

  • @MetallicOpeth Perfectly put, also the reason I got into metal

  • @madviolentchicken Wikipedia says that the vocalist (Mikeal) is the driving force behind Opeth. Also, I'd consider death growls the most brutal form of vocalising, which is sometimes the effect they want to go for in their music. He seems to be a lot better than other vocalists in making his growls intelligible, which must be quite tricky. It might grow on you. Also, ejlacopo58's comment didn't seem particularly constructive... Also, Carlsberg's special brew tastes awful, and I'm quite drunk.

  • well, you know, it's prog/black metal...

  • @juustosiivu O_O

  • i love how it changes suddenly from (XO)HAAWAAHAAWAAAHAAAAAAAA to a gentle melody at 4:35

  • Best song on watershed

  • My top 10 favorite Portugal song . Heavy / brutal song !

  • esto es metal puro \m/\m/

  • 4o\m/

  • @juustosiivu If you listen to the newer bloodbath stuff, it sounds a lot like black metal.

  • @SuncrossChapel eh..... not so much, IMO.

  • @SuncrossChapel The old Bloodbath stuff too! This band never sounded like black metal... from their first minute it was death metal!

  • 5 people obviously do not have ears

  • I want to learn how to growl like him and then sing in a sexy tenor after it.

  • @juustosiivu opeth does have a little bit of a black metal influence, which is understandable considering where they are from lol.

  • Whatever black metal influence was in there disappeared after their second album. They are from Sweden not Norway.

  • Damn, dat' riff at 6:26.

  • The 76,000 views are by me!

  • progressive melodic death metal does not = black metal. they dont really blast beat so much.. and his high screams just dont sound like your typical black metal. i'm sure theres faint elements here or there. but not enough to say this is black metal, not in my book. either way it doesnt matter. its not unncommon for one to like both black metal and death metal... they are 2 of the main leading genres within the overall genre of metal.

  • @natruto plus, they are not obsessed with make up and upside down crosses. despite what a couple songs mean.. they just shouldn be tossed in with that crowd...

  • @juustosiivu Opeth actually has lots of black metal inspirations...

  • five people tie steaks around their necks so at least the dog will play with them.

  • 7:22'': Let the tears flow

  • @noiseescapeplan Haha man. Fucking best part

  • @juustosiivu opeth has a hella strong blabk metal influence. just listen to their old stuff

  • This quality is killing me

  • @adamski3004 Then buy the cd geneus

  • there Opeth,..there thier own genre, hard to classify them as it is

  • Opeth is the shit!!

  • I love how there are people linking to all parts of the song claiming that it's their favorite. Don't see that much on the music of other bands. More proof as to the awesomeness of Opeth.

  • @weaponized666 I get that. Some of the passages are mind blowingly genius.

  • amazing intro....

  • 4.09 :P epic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The outro is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life.

That lead can just toy with my emotions any day of the week.

  • If you love bands like Tool, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, A Perfect Circle, you should definetely check out our album, "Telos".

Look for Isurusband on youtube or google it to find our website.

Telos is available on ITunes, too.

    Peace, Isurus.

  • I LOVE THE OUTRO!

  • @StealthPotates There is literally nothing black metal about morningrise at all.

  • Mikael is just amazing, this is 10 years later and hes still writing some of his BEST material.

  • what a powerful song

  • the best!

  • this songs been stuck in my head all week.. and im not complaining!

    FUCK I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • why do people constantly feel a need to label stuff (granted its human nature) its music... MUSIC!!!! an fucking amazing at that. god so many bands need to take notes.

  • This could almost be considered doom. I hate personally doom, but if it sounded like this I could get used to it.

  • One of their heaviest songs ... One of their best!!

  • Good fucking GOD

I never got into Opeth much but this song changed my mind. I'm a new fan. I guess.

  • Beautiful outro.

  • raaaaaaaaaaaaa \m/ !

  • ultra brutal part of this song is awesome

  • Hell yeah, its the favourite between death metal bands hell yeah!!!!!!

  • My god Opeth is so awesome

  • Opeth is an incredible band to listen to. But, if you're in a band like us, you feel nothing but shame for the inferior music you make.

  • @hazarmavethmetal Keep you're head up dude, practice, masterpieces come from a lot of work, they come slowly, spend at least 4 months writing one song, then you got yourself something great. Work on composition and harmonies, as well as progressive arrangements, and even occasionally recurring themes. Look at Dan Swano...

  • @Megadedly \m/

  • Mikael's voice is so distinctive. He has a sweet melodic voice yet can go the Cookie Monster route when necessary. These guys prog rock and can hang with the thrashers as well. My only criticism is that the slower portions of certain songs are too long. No beef with the uptempo shit. As Mikael is fond of saying in concert, "Our shit smells good."

  • @ewconnection ahaha I agree.

  • The best few seconds of this day: I play one of the best E riff ever made on my guitar and now ( 0:40 ) I watch as snow fall out of the window. EPIC!!!

  • Opeth = greatest and most dynamic band ever!

  • WHY DOES IT SOUND SO FUCKING GOOD?

  • alright im fairly new to Opeth, but ive heard alot of their songs and im gonna go out and buy all the albums.. im a big Dream Theater fan and i discovered Opeth through reading comments posted on Dream Theater songs... Opeth is very different from DT, but similar in alot of ways when it comes to the craftsmanship of the music.. i love this band... i just sat here and laughed with a grin on my face the first time i heard this... idk what got into me haha i think i was just overwhelmed with joy

  • @Xnothinbetter2dewX DUDE i also ot turned onto them through a dream theater fan. i own all the albums for both bands and i can safely say they are similar but different. both are my favorite bands. you should check out porcupine tree as well.

  • @69swipe true, porcupine tree is great too

  • @69swipe Same for me! I recommend you to check Enslaved out. They are progressive black/viking metal. They are very good. I recommend you to listen to "Lightning" and "Ethica Odini". I would love to hear what you think about them...

  • @MrMetalfr3ak I enjoyed lightning. some of the vocals reminded me of scar symmetry and i also come from a dimmu borgir/ old mans child back round so i thought it was sick as fuck. Thank you for the recommendation

  • @69swipe No problem! They are actully touring with Dimmu Borgir at the moment... xD

  • @69swipe Me to, I was looking for bands like dream teather, and ok I never liked death metal before opeth. And they are not insane that's good, they just show a fucking creepy style.

  • WHY AM I JUST DISCOVERING THIS BAND NOW. HOLY SHIT. LOVE IT.

  • i learning this song like right now

  • @juustosiivu Just to get people to watch as a lot of Black Metal fans I know personally like Opeth ...

  • @GrindcoreDeathFreak Opeth was what originally got me listening to black metal. I have no idea actually now thinking what they sound like. They don't sound anything like a conventional death metal band the American stuff like Cannibal Corpse, not listened to much Swedish death metal so I don't know. They don't sound anything like Norwegian black metal either.

  • @TheLolthazun Not wondering, in this track many black metal influences

  • @mrdeathamore tremelo picking blast beat sections. I don't think they do the classic bm sound like this often. What else?

  • @TheLolthazun Death metal uses blast beats and tremolo picking as well. Listen to origin.

  • @jimbobanalbeats yes... obviously but it just doesn't sound the same when compared to Norwegian black metal because of the down tuned guitars. Not the same atmospheric tone.

  • @TheLolthazun True.

  • @GrindcoreDeathFreak Plus Opeth started as a black metal band

  • @TheMetalKid9 No they started as a Death Metal band

  • @IBiteTheHandThatFed Orchid was strongly black metal influenced. Now Eruption was a Death metal band but I am talking about Opeth.

  • @TheMetalKid9 I'm talking about Opeth too....

  • @GrindcoreDeathFreak Yes! I like black metal, but Opeth is my favourite band. Nice. :)

  • @GrindcoreDeathFreak Just like me :)

  • @juustosiivu To each his own ^^ Well anyway the whole song is very nice.

  • The ending of this song puts me in some kind of infinite trance. It is very gratifying to the senses. I love it.

  • I just like the intro and the outro !! \m/ OPETH rock :D
