@musiclover77able Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers were great for Diana as well; "Tenderness" is one of her most under rated songs, not to mention "Upside Down". But I agree; Ashford & Simpson had a very special chemistry with Diana, "Surrender" & "Reach Out, I'll Be There" are amongst my favorites; but I truly love all the songs Ashford & Simpson wrote for her; their chemistry together was magical....
I've been playing the cd of the first Diana Ross solo album written and produced by A&S. This song especially brings back the kid I was, all of 14 when I bought this album in the summer of 1970. To have both products by Diana and the new lineup with the Supremes having Jean Terrell, well Motown had two gems at that time. I love t his song so much!
Like HDH and Michael Masser were great writers for Diana so was Ashford and Simpson. All winners. Ashford and Simpson especially pulled out more deeper vocals from Diana. The Boss album is where Diana was hitting notes I never knew she could hit. She SANG her a** off on that album which is still my all time favorite.
What did the album cover depict, I know its in my garage but cant go look for it now, all your pics are fabulous and some I've never ever seen before, did you work inside Motown or just avidly collect? Fantastic video mix. brought back memories keep up the good work, One day I will share w/ you the pics I have behind the scenes at Mahogany shooting and some from Jet magazine and Soul-Beat...Have a good day. Kev.
Diana was in a simple shirt and cut-off jean shorts with no makeup and her short hairdo cropped to make her appear as if she was a child with an apple in her hand looking naive.
Beautiful songs from 1970. Great work, Donny. Did you recently acquire the album, 'Diana Ross'. I bought it the day it was released. She got a lot of flack for the album cover.
One of my favorites by Diana.
