Van Exel was one of the most under-appreciated stars of the 90s. That uncharismatic Del Harris wasn't a good match for his style of play. Nick was explosive in the playoffs for the Mavs. He was also deadly in the clutch. The only 2 players I would say that might have been more dazzling ballhandlers than Nick would be Isiah Thomas and Tim Hardaway. I like Nick's ballhandling better than Iverson's.
Quick,left-handed, a possibility outside, a sure fire link up twosome in the form of McDyess, when he was at Denver. Not strickly a slammer a good bet inside though, fast runner between plays,a pity that during the late nineties he was with such a woeful (results wise) team as "The Nuggets".
Shaq's punk ass made Nick a scapegoat, Ceballos, then Eddie. He lead to the demise of the 4 All Star Laker team. I still think what if Phil came and coached the 4 All Star Laker team as opposed to just Shaq n Kobe.
Can these teenage rappers use the n*gga a little less or simply NOT AT ALL? It's not helping the public perception of the average black male citizen who works hard and does the right thing. It sounds deranged.
@NYVoice the teenage rapper doesn't give a fuck. They're listening to Lil'Wayne who's been on tape "rapping" about killing infants. Of course they don't give a fuck about using that word. On the other hand this is the Outlaws who are a part of Tupac's (2Pac) camp. They're way better, but yeah they could certainly cut down on the use of the "N" word or whatever. These teenage punks can't make a man like me look bad, or look back. They can only hurt themselves.
Nick the Quick, what a special player, I miss guys like this in the league- awesome swagger, high creative and quickness and a late game assassin, he would always put the daggers in my teams in the late 90s
stupid crossover, outrageous creativity, pull up pure wetness...jennings would be a liar if he said he didnt continuously watch this man all the time. he started dat "iknow im the shit swag" jennings u got a few more years to go before you get even close to vanexel status!
He str8 killed Gary Payton in 2 playoff series in 95 and 98. The Lakers were my team back then until they traded him. Nick and Eddie Jones brought the Lakers back at that time in my opinion.
I still remember punchin a hole in the wall when they traded him out of LA. I was so pissed out of my mind. Then they traded Eddie Jones and that was the last straw. I never followed the Fakers again. They hired phil jackson and turned into the bulls of the west I HATED THE BULLS. LA Sold out. Damm i was pissed lol
@ProduceMan117 the only reason why they would probably ever compare the two is because they are both left-handed, and they both shoot a low field goal percentage while maintaining a decent 3 point percentage. One thing Jennings does not have is Van Exel's ability to back down the other point guard on the block.
@ProduceMan117 I miss Nicky for real. Thats fucked up how Jerry west sent him to the nuggets where he knew Nicky would not bne a threat to the lakers.
What Nick & the Lakers did in the 1994-95 season was a HELL of a turnaround! They went from missing the playoffs the previous season ( The fist time the lakers missed the playoffs in like 17 years) to going to the semifinals! Del Harris won Coach of the year!
i hate a love/hate relationship with this dude! He'd pull up for a 3 on a 1 on 3 fastbreak, and i'd yell "wtf are you doing!?!?" then he makes the shot, then i'd be all "yes! you the man nick!" LOL
damn Nick Van Exel was my fav player growing up the way he just pull up for a 3 in someone's face..or cross someone over man you watch derick rose his moves are all nick van exel moves that whoever he was watching copied..van exel was too sick he carried the lakers for like 4 years.

Man, I loved Van Exel, he was a hell of a Point Guard. They should have built up a championship team with Shaq, Van Exel and Eddie Jones, instead of moving everybody out just because of that Ballhog Kobe Bryant! Damn Shame.
that ballhog kobe bryant and what you call a damn shame move is what gave the Lakers their first 3peat since the 80's. hate all you want, but you can't deny the fact the that team can't win all the way. you were right about one thing though, nick the quick was a hell of a point guard.
word. van exel took fisher under his wing when fisher was learning how to be a good point guard in his rookie season. van exel's my fav player ever. behind all the other damn good point guards & shooting guards
