  • That's exactly what I do I listen to my MP3 and think about the story... but since I'm still just a student, getting ready to finish school and try to get my book published. I always consider it a good way to both create and discover things to add to your book or story :)

  • Yor and yur? I think you mean you're and your. :P Take the piss out of people's grammar and I'll take the piss out of your accent. Haha.

  • I kinda hawe a story but i dunno how to start it out any help?

  • Is it posible to get my book published if I'm only 11?

  • yes it's but u would need to show that you'r book is grown up

  • @Rovering0Spirit im 11 and i don't care about my age if i want to get my own book published, Justin Bieber is only 15 and his songs were published everywhere.

  • @MissShaleen98 oh you know you can expand your vocabulary by buying a vocabulary builder for like 5 dollars there really easy just go through like 5-10 words and then atthe end of the chapter thing they have like a quiz and stuff and reveiw them like each day that's how I use big words in sentences that really make my friends mad because they don't understand what I'm saying.

  • @plaguel1 Thanks so much for the help! :D but unfortunatly I'm British and I live in the UK

  • also if you want people to like your books if you're young like me try and use really adulty words, like juvenile, esstenial, etc

  • @MissShaleen98 Thanks because this retarded story of mine is getting really hard to write.

  • I think its a grate idear if you think you are up to it go on give it a try you never know

  • The main problem I have fwith writing is that I develop characters, backstory and whole universes long before I start thinking about plot, so when I actually come to writing I have no idea what to do. Sometimes I start with plot, and characters and backstory just grow out of it, which seems to work much better.

  • I love to read and write, I am even trying to write on right now, but the thing is I'm very young, I am a pre-teen and nobody would ever take my books seriously, do I just wait intil I am older, or do I keep on trying?

  • Just wanted to say that scheduled day dreaming time is probably the single most important thing you can do. I get my best ideas - Im writing a book myself - when im simply listening to music and allowing my mind to wander while thinking of my characters. Your post on how to write a book was genius and now Im going to go watch some over your other stuff as well. Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I noticed someone else said you should do a video on writers block. I utterly agree.

  • I write fanfiction

  • me too :D

  • Okay here's my problem, I have this entire series planned out in my head and I'm really proud of it. Problem is, of course you have to start writing from the first book, but when I've just had this idea of like oh I should totally write this in the 3rd book and then I get side tracked and just don't write anything. So now it's mentally five novels and about 5 pages on paper. What should I do?

  • Haha, I definitely have un-scheduled day dreaming time. I grab my Ipod, and just go down to the park, sit on the swings, and space out. Although I can't sit on the swings there anymore. They tore them down. I'm not sure when they'll be putting up the new ones, so now I have to go to my old elementary school. Nothing like a place filled with imagination :)

Keira, I think you should make a video on how to deal with writers bock.

  • just make yourself write a few lines about random stuff and always reread what you've already wrote. That usually gets rid of my writers block.

  • aahhaha i have schedule day dream times too!! well there not reallly scheduled, but at least once a day i go out and run and while i run im dreaming it up! lol

  • I think I am gonna start keeping a journal. I am a very anxious person and I think it may help me relax. You seem pretty relaxed. LOL I am gonna start tonight.

  • Waaiitttt!! What is your book called? What is it about? WHERE CAN I GET IT!?

Sorry is this sounds redundant...I'm a new fan :]

  • I find I can't think if I'm sitting at the computer, so I walk. Then I'm not endlessly distracted by the shiny wonders of the internet. If you can, write at a computer with no web access.

  • Laura Whitcomb is coming out with a sequel to A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT!!! AHHH, I'm so excited!!! She also came out with aonther book called The Fetch, which is another supernatural romance. Laura Whitcomb is THE BEST! Also ACSOL might become a movie.

  • Thanks for the info. I'm very good at English and I thought it would be cool to write a book but I don't know where to start.

  • Thanks, it's nice to hear that other people do that day dreaming thing too.

  • haha and here i thought i was the only weirdo daydreaming and making up fantasies when im bored:) its fun living in ur little fake world!

  • Wow I do that too. I make sure I dedicate an hour a day to my "workout"..not really for the running part but more for the fact that it gives me time to just listen to my ipod and think up neat things. Daydreaming rocks! lol.

  • HEY! I have Your First Novel, too! Coolio, I've read and reread it a couple times, it's like my writer's bible right now.

  • You have a lot of books...

Seth: You have a lot of books, too.

    Me: TOO THE BOOKSTORE!

  • hold up.

do I see a LUXE book in the background !?

    I LOVE THE LUXE SERIES.

that's keeping my attention for the rest of the video.

  • i dream things up while i'm asleep. it's strange, i'll wake up going i'm going write that in my story/book/novel (whateva iu want to call it) so can i email a chapter to you or something???

  • I was wondering, Is there a certain age that you need to be to get published? cause my little sister is an AWESOME writer but she's only 14

  • I'd like to know too. I'm writing a novel/series, but I'm only 15.

  • i'm writing one and i'm twelve. though don't assume it's some imature little teenage love novel, i'm trying to steer clear of that territory!

  • i recomend maybe posting short stories on fanfiction to get helpful critique.

  • Daydream time is fantastic.

  • Oh my gosh! I schedule my time for daydreaming too! I will actualy set my alarm closck for 5am and then when I wake up I set it for 7:30am so that when I go back into bed I can dream happy and imagitive dreams! Its actualy what the idea for my novel came from! Also something you might have wanted to add is the Writer's best friends, Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Phonebook (you know for character names!).

  • Kiera is helpful! :) Thanks for the insight, we all appreciate it so much!

    Crystal

  • well for my daydream time it takes me quite a while to fall alseep so i daydream in bed whille going to sleep. it's my favorite part of the day you should try it

  • thanks for the tips :) some of the stuff I sometimes already do but you introduced me to some good tips!

  • thanks Kiera! Lol, i sent you part of my story, now i'm totally embarrassed about that! xD I've been writing since then, and i've gotten A LOT better! So the other day, i re-read the story i sent you and was like, "Good gracious this sucks!!" LOL. anywho, i have improved quite a bit, and i'm happy about it. my teacher is trying to help me get some of my poems published. O_o we'll see how that goes.

  • Thank you Kiera! That helps me out a lot! Now I regret posting me reading my writing on youtube...xD Thank youuu!

    Maggie

  • lol. i do that.

    listen to music and daydream.

but i go overboard with it.

like when im suppose to be doing homework and such, i usually listen to music and daydream like crazy.

  • lol! I do that too! My mom says I have a very overactive imagination and that I should tell my brain to shut up XD lol :)

  • good to know I'm not alone :)

  • I have to say, this was very inspiring... I think I may go sit down and write in my journal!

  • Thanks for that, I enjoyed watching it even though I know pretty much everything and do nearly everything you recommended. I need good spelling and grammar for my fan fictions so I'm obsessed (I correct it even in my dreams) There's some words I have no idea what they mean, but I tend to use them alot... crazy.

  • ha i schedule daydreaming whenever I write :)

  • Thanks for the help :)

I like the idea of 'daydream time' :D Sound's like something everyone should have!!

I just wish I was a good enough artist to draw all of my characters... Not just book ideas but just randomness :P

I'll be ordering my copy of the Siren asap! It sounds amazing :)

  • Oh my goodness, the scheduled daydreaming times sound perfect! Most of my good stuff in my stories is born when I'm being lazy and daydreaming. Scheduled times to do that in are absolutely brilliant! Then I can do it without feeling so guilty and lazy! Wow, Kiera, that's really smart. Thanks! The whole video was very helpful.

  • I think if you don't understand grammar, you're not going to be a good author. I think it just works that way :\

  • hey! The Siren rocks! lol

  • i love how your books are sorted by colour in the background :)

  • i love your books behind you! -color coded and what not! it reminds me of a library! lol though they wouldn't be color coded so much as by subject/author and what not.

any who! thanks for the tips!!!

    <3

  • This is my favorite video, ever! I started writing my book in May, and find myself getting stuck sometimes. So I just find my copy of The Siren, read a few paragraphs for inspiration, and away I go!

  • I'll send this video to my friend since she wants to publish a book,

    thanks kiera ;D

  • first?! yyyyyyeeeeaaaaaaaaaaayy
