@1974warlord i think either verizon or att somehow figured out how to keep this phone from being used on AT&T even if it's unlocked. i'd research it if i were you because this is just what i remember from months ago
BTW the phone is quad band GSM that means it can work on network transmitting on 850 MHz, 900Mhz, 1800Mhz and 1900Mhz, but 850 MHz, 900Mhz which is used by US Carriers such as ATT and T-Mo had been locked by Verizon.
Verizon has locked GSM Bands 850 and 1900 that belong to T-Mobile and ATT so actually even though it is technically Quadband phone but it has been handicapped by Verizon to only work outside USA. So Moto made it global and Verizon made it only overseas GSM.
@dazzleglass99 it can receive a signal from every common cell tower in the world, you just might get charged huge amounts of money for doing so. lots of "regular" verizon phones will for example not work in Europe.
@codyl1992 - does the droid 2 global have profiles running? i know there's talk of it being released but i'm also seeing videos of droid 2 globals running with profiles...
@136mike hey well I think that the droid 2 would be find because it dose have better standby time and talk time, endless you travel alot then you should get the global.
why buy this ridiculous phone without a simple front face cam if there is a SAMSUNG GALAXY S 2 out there?? much better specs, same screen size, much better screen quality, thinner, lighter... and best of wall, it doesnt comes with this garbage called motoblur. i cant understand.
Is this phone really thick? Bc of it's keyboard? Bc I'd love to get it but if it's too thick I'd rather get like an Iphone or something. I have an old texting phone with slide out keyboard and it's thickish.... so...?
I've had this phone for about a week and love it! I have Dave Chappelle saying "What!" for all my notifications, lol... I check my yahoo mail and gmail, surf the web on any one of two browsers, tether my laptop to it at times, tease my dog and cat with the dog teaser program, plug it in in the car and follow the directions of the map program right up to the door of where I want to go, read books on the Kindle app, and watch Youtube videos. Fun phone, it replaced my iphone ;)
i want this phone. ive been thinking about the droid x but i kinda want a keyboard. i text a lot....my question is...how is the keyboard? i tested it in the store and it seemed really soft and flat. almost like i wasnt touching anything. is that the case?
@Dbacks221217 for me, it has gotten to the point where I can text without even looking at it. I NEVER use the onscreen horizontal keyboard, i find it horrible. I occasionally use the vertical one, for one-handed texting or something. But 90% of the time, it's the physical keyboard. I think it's great, certainly puts it above the droid x in my opinion. I came from a blackberry and got used to it in just a couple days.
@Dbacks221217 why buy this ridiculous phone without a simple front face cam if there is a SAMSUNG GALAXY S 2 out there?? much better specs, same screen size, much better screen quality, thinner, lighter... and best of wall, it doesnt comes with this garbage called motoblur. i cant understand.
I have the Droid 2 will it be better to change it to the Droid 2 global? I heard that the Droid 2 global have less battery life so I dk so can someone Please help....
Cody, to bet the cost of the $65 monthly international fee, could I go to England, buy a pre-pay SIM card and put it in my phone while I'm in England? I understand that my phone number would change but wouldn't it be a lot less expensive to make call (in County), use Skype to call the states, text, and use Wi-Fi? Laurie
@lweaverk9 That would be a good idea, especially now that verizon has discontinued the $65 monthly international data plan, i'm guessing it was because people abused it or to be more in line with AT&T. Now it is VERY expensive to use data abroad. Only issue with using a pre-paid sim is that you would have to get verizon to unlock the phone. Also, I have heard that skype does not work as you might hope when you are overseas, it doesn't use VOIP (doesnt use the data network for calls)
@crazyaves67 did i say it wouldn't? because i don't think i did...but no, its great for both. texting is awesome with the keyboard and calling sounds great.
Thats the one thing that gets me about the battery life on these. When i read about the horrible battery life on this or the droid x , It makes me wonder how much these people are playing with their droids., If you're on it all day playing on the internet/ with apps i can see people fdraining the battery but that goes for anything.
@SystemXpander it's 200mhz faster and has a slide out keyboard. It also has better battery life than the incredible. Oh and it has global capabilities. I would say yes it's a better phone.
@sjpc33 Idk about the incredible, but if the battery life on the global is better than the incredible then the incredible would be off the market right now because the globals battery life SUCKS!!!!!!!! Now it may just be me but this is my 2nd Droid 2 Global and it still has the same problem as the first. I charge the phone completely before I go to bed, and then unplug it, only to wake up to 20%!?!?!?!? left on the phone as it was idle for only 8 hours.... give me a break
@asdas765 wow that's unfortunate. My battery will get me through the day only if i don't go on the internet a lot. But on idle, it will last a long time for me. I think the battery consumption used during idle has to do with how often your data updates (i think mine is on the default setting) as well as your signal strength. I know if i go to a place with low signal the battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY worse just because of idling draining so much battery.
@asdas765 that's really strange it shouldn't be doing that at all, what widgets are you running? I would suggest taking it in to a VZ store and complaining they will give you a free new battery or even a free extended one. It's a great phone and the best droid out on the market right now. give it some time.
So, you do not need to activate the Global aspects of this from the start? I can use it as a US-only phone with regular unlimited data and activate the Global if I were to need it? I'm sold with the decent camera and 1.2ghz processor. :D
@krazeelocomiststuck it comes with the SIM card that allows global roaming on any network, the sim card just tells the networks that you are roaming on a verizon phone. you might have to call verizon to activate global services, and to change your data plan from national to international, which is about 2x more expensive but easily worth it in my opinion.
Thank you for clearing that up! :D I'd definitely have to agree with you, though. If I were to go to another country for a good amount of time, I'd happily pay the global fee instead of buying a new phone for that trip.
I *really* hope this phone'll be available in Europe! Preferably within a few months, at least, since I desperately need a new phone, but I only want this one... I got hooked on the original Milestone, fell in love with the Milestone 2, and just when I decided to get it, they released this one... So now I'm waiting, hoping to be able to buy this baby! :D
