  • Someone somewhere has GOT to have the original material to get a decent quality master, Surely!?

  • Love the increase in tempo and dynamics at around 7:00!

  • I gotta work on those drum faces

  • 2:23 What a mug!!!

  • I saw this band rehearsing two hours ago haha ! That was freakin' awesome!

  • I just discovered this band today, after listening to a couple of their songs, I can tell this is REAL music., as real as it gets.

  • Lyrics:

    eavhahvahwvhahvawvewajvhawhveawjvhahv awjvhawvhawhvwae

  • If you dont get Magma, you haven't listened enough music yet.

  • @dmtgallardo EXACTLY

  • @dmtgallardo if you haven't heard Basil Kirchin, you haven't heard enough magma!

  • @dmtgallardo A-Fucking-Men!

  • @vanXerxe just to help anyone who is interested in this, he means "koenjihyakkei"

  • These guys did three drummers way before Slipknot!

  • this song is so retarded I don't feel the music how can anybody listen this

  • @Djonfla U R a MASSIVE TWAT. retarded is, probably ,what you listen too t,his is technically outstanding, you fcuking brain dead 13 Y/O

  • @clemzzz u r a massive twat because u listen to this crap of music

btw do u know what metallica is ??

  • @Djonfla that other guy got a little too excited dissing you, but, uh, yeah. Hey, if this doesn't work out, type in "Skeleton Makes Good" into the youtube search and listen to the song by Beefheart, that should be way easier listening ;)

  • @Djonfla crawl back into your mother's putrid cunt you miscarriage

  • @Djonfla Why would you use the fact that you can't feel the music as a wonderment to why 'anyone' wouldn't like this. I feel it pretty well, very intense stuff.

  • WTF IS WRONG WITH.....WELL EVERYTHING

  • never knew about these guys until a few weeks ago.. been playing drums for 40 plus years and i know most of the greats. christian is incredible ,kieth moon meets billy cobham on this track.. the more recent stuff is moon meets elvin jones.not to mention the writing, singing and all those great players across the years. i'm sold

  • Just so we're clear on the matter. That drummer with glasses is a futurian android that Vander summoned as his personal drum machine. You can see his magnetic field twitch at 6.53. (source wikipedia)

  • WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DRUMER

  • WHERE'S THE REST? ? ?

  • @alavirlefou ça veut rien dire ton truc xD

  • Love this stuff. At first listen to any sort of music you're not accustomed to, it may seem weird, incomprehensible, or even down right silly... but, given the proper mindset and perspective, one can develop a taste for any music. "Why would I want to do that?" you might ask. Because! Developing a new sense for anything instantly adds more flavor to life... I find it really broadens the spectrum of your mind in general.

  • I love it! Youre awesome :)

  • Maravilhoso!

  • The bass and the drums are so hard sounding! And the dissonant guitar riff adds perfectly to the mood (:

  • @learrus A little. Looks more like a Miami cop gone punk, though.

  • @frederikolsen Giorgio Moroder as an anarchist, mayhap.

  • @Pc72 Moroder's coke-laden drum machines have got nothing on Vander's Zeuhl Wortz Zerebrahl Zlakehnzain!

  • @frederikolsen All hail Darth Vander! Da Zeuhl Wortz Mekanik!

  • COMPLETE MASTERPIECE!

  • YouTube needs to make it so I can give this song way more thumbs ups!

  • Man, I cannot stop listening to this since I found it...

When I turn it off... It just keeps playing in my head until I can't stand not hearing it physically exiting my speakers and come back here...

  • Im pretty sure the acid wore off eventually ???

  • Also...

Does that moustachioed drummer really look like Maynard James Keenan from TOOL or what?

  • Got here randomly...

    Love it.

Finally something I haven't heard before, and it's fucking fantastic!!!

Never identified so much with something where a dude doesn't say anything other than whatever that noise he makes is...

  • @learrus it's an invented language (only in the 70s). look up Magma in wikipedia

  • I love how modern metal bands try to be "scary" or "intimidating" - they got nothin on this!

  • @jayekaiser /agreed

that being said... try this one - /watch?v=S-bzNnQUY9I

  • fuck...........

  • they are to good to be true

  • Kobian rocker legends !!!! - perfect for scaring little children....

  • These lyrics kick @ss!

  • This piece of pure energy should be remastered.

  • This is so odd, so powerful, I wish their LP's CD's were more easy to find though.

  • My god when I get abducted I want this to be my abduction soundtrack.

  • 03:18 HAHAHAAAAAA

    03:31 hahahahah

    03:39 HAHAHAHAHAHA

    06:30 HAHAHAHAHAA

    08:10 HAHAHAHAHAA

  • There was a time, where music and life didn't differ.

Those guys didn't make music for a living. They lived to make music.

Every molecule in their body was ablaze with sound lifeforms that could not stay silent.

Their music was organic. It embodies all of our hopes, all of our fears. their music was a map to our warped minds.

  • @Haeresiarchonte That has nothing to do with time.. I'm sure there are still people this passionate, most of them just aren't known.

  • @Haeresiarchonte Amen to Haeresiarchonte...

  • @Haeresiarchonte Amen to Haeresiarchonte...

    Niagaas get the fuuuncck down

  • What's with the leisure suit?

  • really interesting stuff. Talk about early progressive.

  • 2:33 is very Brufordesque

  • Christian Vander has the best facial expressions...

  • drummer looks like Iggy Pop

  • This is scaring me... But is still awesome lol.

  • This song was playing at my friends funeral at the end. Strange but beautiful.

He was a huge Magma fan.

There was a can of Dr.Pepper on a Melotron.

  • Amazing performance.

  • la wea linda !

  • From 7 mins to the end...

    Let's go!!!

A terrible trip to our mind's most unknown places...

This music is dangerous as it is wonderful.

Great guys, they remind me to King Crimson but Fripp's group was more light.

  • That is a BRILLIANT performance but Damn! The end is cut. This clip shows evidence of a very well-recorded and edited concert. What concert is it, (Is this the Rombas 1977 I hear so much about?) where does this video come from, and how much more of it is out there? Does anybody know?

  • @DomValela I also would like to know.

  • telo pochu dame tu caca

    lawea filete por la chucha

  • okay jamming, but why would they construct a whole language?

  • 6:23 HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

  • lyrics anyone? :D

  • sooooooooo beautiful

  • at about 1:13 when the camera pans over who I think is the basist all I can think is, "First you take a dump in your pants, then you do the "Shit Your Pants Dance" round and round and round you will prance, when you do the "Shit Your Pants Dance"" (If you get the reference +10 Internets to you)

  • this blew my mind O.O i never knew things like this existed...to think how many steps we took backward in the underground music of today...but perhaps how many steps forward in purpose and meaning? as this band seems to put emphasis on a lack of the audience understanding its music. another genre to add to the pile!

  • I have a few of their albums, which are great. one of the most UNIQUE of all prog bands (cuz even prog got bogged down in cliches of the genre)

  • Mahavishnu Orchestra could've steamrolled these guys!

  • @gorillabelly1 Mahavishu Orchestra are a jazz band... Magma is Zeuhl... two different genres.

    Also no.

  • @birchofacookie

Thanks, Professor. I was already aware of that oh, so earth-shattering factoid little anal-retentive control-freaks like you get so uptight over. Get a life!

  • @gorillabelly1 Oh, I need to get a life? You're the pretentious freak who goes on a video just to diss the band. I have a life, you're the one who has time to go onto some band's video and badmouth them. If you like Mahavishu Orchestra, go on a video for Mahavishu Orchestra and say "I like Mahavishu Orchestra". You're a pathetic troll. I hope one of your Mahavishu Orchestra albums makes you go deaf, it will match your mental retardation.

    Have a good day.

  • @gorillabelly1 Mahavishnu were awesome too. But very different genres. A lot of magma's work is highly choral - and not always (although sometimes) as busy as Mahavishnu. I would have loved to see McLoughlin play along with Vander at some point in some way. Wish I could have seen either back in the day!

  • this video is quite literally the best thing I have ever seen. No word of a lie.

  • You know the episode of Spongebob Squarepants where the entire crew plays at the Bubblebowl in order for Spuidward to impress Squilliam? Patrick played the drums at the concert. Do you remember the faces Patrick was making? I think the artists got the ideas of those faces from this performance and video.

  • Vander can make as many funny faces as he wants, because, when he does, he's communicating with some sort of spirit from Kobaïa that makes him automatically five billion times more awesome than you.

  • @birchofacookie

What in the world is Kobaia

  • @Israfvel Kobaïa is a fictional planet invented by Vander & co. It's the setting for the majority of Magma's work, and it "loans" its language to their songs, which are sung in Kobaïan.

  • @birchofacookie Best comment ever- and at 6:21 that spirit enteres the stage...magma rule!

  • @senseitre Thanks a bunch, dude, never heard a Magma song I don't like.

  • @birchofacookie these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.

  • @birchofacookie A conservative estimate.

  • video mas interesante de youtube, aun no he visto nada igual.

    genialisimo magma!!

  • Qui est un autre batteur?

  • Fantastic. For me, they beat the poops out of Pink Floyd & other prog rock bands I know, not to mention the so-called great hard-rockin bands.

  • The drummer's getting PUMPED UP! HE'S EXCITED ABOUT DRUMMING, LET THE MAN BE. Although it does look quite hilarious.

  • LOL wtf is with that one drummer?! Is he getting wanked off? Or tripping on LSD? Is he so commited to playing eventhough it's time for a potty break?!

  • I swear, all of them, to a man, used to drink in the Bear, Bedford.

  • EL BIGOTE ES LO MAXIMO!

  • You are listening to a french illuminati brother :)

  • Vander is a unique, great talent, consistent for 40 years now, See them if you can. Life- changing experience. I first saw them in 1974 and was awestruck. still moved by them now, He is so committed and talented.

  • Saw Magma Nov 30, 2010 in Paris at Duc Des Lombards - AMAZING

  • hum, nice

    =)

  • Amazing!

  • Drummer 2 is Frank Zappa in an alternate reality where he was a redneck survivalist. Drummer 1 IS an alien as some here have suggested.

  • 3:18 HAHAHAAAAAA

    3:31 HAHAHAHAH

    3:39 HAHAHAHAHAHA

    6:30 HAHAHAHAHAA

    8:10 HAHAHAHAHAA

  • @birolha ahahahahahahahaAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH KALKRİLAKİFLKAİORJHBMFABMALKİPEFKAİGKA

    BEEEE BE BOOO BEBOOOM EBEEEN

  • @birolha Ayıp ama ben sana gördüğümü önceden söyledim allah ın hakkı 3 tür biliyorsun bende o kuralları severim uygularım.

  • @birolha That's what I call being high on drums, wonderful feeling :D

  • the drummer is a reptilllian look at those split pupils man, sonics from the lower 4th dimension

  • the part from 5:36 to 6:21 is amazing ! it suddenly comes to a post-rock part, just after the really loud and dark sound of the chorus... sounds like sonic youth !!

    <3

  • Great to see a high quality video from the time. Heavy metal bands... eat your heart out!!! This is the heaviest band of all time. But what happened to the bass solo at the end - the whole point of the piece?

  • @williamgeorgefraser

bass solo at the end, that sounds great, i wish it was in the video

  • @1m2a3t4t5

Is that a Travis Bean the bassist is playing?

    IN CASE YOU KNOW.

  • gotta respect a bandleader who is actually the drummer and actually invites another drummer to play with him in the band AND lets somebody else do the singing.

The singer is so boss at the beginning, his facial expressions and his hand gestures (0:52)

  • 8:05 WTF!

  • this song is unbelievably badass

  • The future is pretty fucked up :D

  • i searched the band magma so that i could see ho they were because my mom used to date someone from the band im not sure if its this one though depends on how many bands named magma ther are but anyways thats awsome right : )

  • Check out Vanders EYES at 5:30!!

  • I can't tell if Clement Bailey's drums are even micced for this video. It seems like we're only getting Vander's sound. Which is awesome, but Bailey's an absolute monster, and it's great to hear him play.

  • the first death metal band xD

  • these guys sing in an alien language that they made up themselves because all the songs they sing are about another planet. pretty innovative for back then.

    saludos.

  • intense, amazing musicianship and brilliant, disturbing video.

  • Ok this band is amazing but the guy with the glasses has one one the worst haircuts that ive ever seen :D.

  • @007Pogo

yeah, he later on went to form a band named judas priest and became the lead singer!

    lol

  • @007Pogo yep, the drummer with the weird haircut went on to form the band judas priest and became the lead singer, then the other drummer was also the lead singer in a band named the rolling stones at the same time he was in magma, the singer went on to a band named lynyrd skynyrd later on and of course they all had to learn english

  • @1m2a3t4t5 Hahahahahahahahaha, youre funny

  • Thank you for posting this video! Magma was not the favorite of the "flower people" back in the days. No fancy laser show or flying bubbles in the room ( they would have bands like "Gong" opening for them, complete opposite) but what an intensity! I don't know the name of that other drummer but what an honor to play with Christian, who was ( and still is) one of the top drummer in the world. You'll love them or hate them but they never leave you indifferent

  • 5:14!

    That's the shit right there!

  • This song is like a 12 hour acid trip condensed into 10minutes. It's exhausting.

In my dreams i have a special gig on a space station with Tim Hecker and Sun Ra opening for magma.

  • You guys, come on. Jannick Top is not even in this video. The second drummer is Clement Bailly.

Look up pictures of Jannick from now and from the past, he's short and somewhat fat, with a square head.

Jannick wasn't even in Magma in 1977. He joined an electronic band called Space that year, and was replaced.

  • Wow--like some band that would record for Cuneiform, Bizarre or Ralph Records. Amazing!

  • yannick top (moustache man), thank you for this excellent piece you have composed!

  • @nyktophylaxia Weird, wikipedia says that Jannick Top was on bass, not drums.

  • @HerrSchenkel ,yeah he did compose played Bass, Guitar, Drums on studio and apparently has choosen drums for this live, there is a 2008 live where we can see him playing bass on this piece

  • @nyktophylaxia Ah, thanks. I was wondering who he was. He looks so badass.

  • Dale Dribble drums?

  • Is this concert available on DVD?

  • two drummers??

really amazing!!! I needed something different, I'm getting tired of death metal.

  • Fantastic !!!!

  • That

    Was

    Fucking

    AMAZING!

  • What is this I don't even
