No, you aren't forced to use DX 11 with a 5770. If your games support DX9, 10, or 10.1 you can still play using those versions. You can change it in the options. You won't get as much eye candy, but your framerates will soar. If your 5770 is struggling with a particular game, moving to a lower DX version can be a huge help. Even games like Crysis can be played in DX9 on really OLD video cards and still have high frames, it just won't look as good unless you apply hacks.

DX10 Cards can run DX11 just like DX9 cards can run DX10 but they cant use the features.

GTX 200 has no DX10.1 support or at least not yet out of the market.

DX10.1 and 11 improves graphics quality and performance but the quality is not that far to DX10 unless you have a very huge screen and very high resolution you can spot the difference.

Rest assured ATI is the only card available with DX10.1 and DX11 ready

Poor ati made DX10.1 cos they had a lack in performance with DX10 on their cheap cards. So they made their own DX10 update witch increased the compatibility and thus increasing the performance. Don't let them confuse you with their videos that it actually improves graphic quality cos it doesn't. And now that Nvidia made their cards (from the GTX280 up) DX10.1 compatible Ati is down the drain again (and always will be). Accept the truth. Your ATi cards lack performance and quality.

The "visual enhancements" that DX10.1 offers are non existent. Look at the games in the video for example. No visual improvements what so ever. But the performance is given by the cards compatibility with the DX version. And yes, Nvidia dose support DX10.1 but only from the GTX280 up. I chat every day with people on the EVGA forum and they confirmed that DX10.1 is fully supported on the new GTX280 series and higher.

The "Visual Enhancements" are reffering to anti aliasing. More specifically being able to use AA without the performance hit in DX10. No, the GTX280 and up does not support DX10.1, neither my GTX285 or my GTX295 support it, nor is there a shred of evidence supporting that it supports it. The upcoming GT210 40nm Nvidia card is the first card from Nvidia that will support DX10.1.
