  • Demand respect for bicyclists by blocking traffic, disobeying traffic laws and being complete fuckers on the road

  • Critical mass is... while the message is good the way they execute this stuff sucks. The fish bike was pretty awesome though.

  • Wtf.. fixies only :P

Sf critical mass is fuckn dumb,LA is the way.

  • @Nomasain

Ha get it straight this is not a parade, just a lot of ppl like to ride theyr bikes. Fuck tht permit shit lol... its just for fun

  • Critical Mass cyclists should need a permit for these parades. Having a permit means:

    Your drivers license gets revoked.

You get a fine if you are seen driving or being driven in car or bus (including ambulances and hearses).

You are forbidden to go shopping, since all goods are transported by motor vehicles.

Your salary gets adjusted to the level of Soviet Russia in the 60's (Great example of a almost carless economy).

If you want less cars, arrange free public transportation.

  • A bicycle tire shop and a few broken bottles and would be a millionaire!!!

  • Lots of speed bumps!

  • why don't you guys just stick to riding on one lane and not jam up traffic. some ppl need to get to work or maybe other emergencies. if you want motorists to respect cyclist, learn how respect ppl driving cars as well.most of you guys just ride down the street and scream and yell and act like you own the road.

to critical mass:ask yourself why is there so much negativity towards your group? if you guys are riding properly, sharing the road. i am sure you guys will have more support from ppl.

  • @whitechamai Well cars are only for the fat an the lazy, and we are trying to send a message that the days of the fat-moblie is out dated so hop on a bike and ride baby-ride.

  • @Blackwater200 Right...let's see you cycle across the Atlantic. You have failed to answer the question or do you just avoid it cause that's the main idea of this 'cause'; to cause hatred towards your group by pissing people off, just for the heck of it.

I'm sure as hell glad this ain't happening in my country.

  • @Str4t0sPh3rE First of all, what are you talking about you never asked me a question. Second, the reseason why people do this vary, but the main reseason is that people are sick and tired of all the cars on the road, and folks that drive don't respect cyclist, and are very violent toward cyclist. there is too much smog and traffic on the streets, so we also try to promote people to get out and ride a bike to get in shape and to reduce traffic, and smog for the good of everyone.

  • @Blackwater200 The question was raised by whitechamai.

  • @Blackwater200

Let's see how you carry your wife during labour to the hospital on your bicycle...

Hopefully it's in the last Friday of the month.. and you encounter other Critical Mass riders blocking the street :)

  • @Blackwater200 That is just retarded. You can't ride-baby-ride in the winter snow, or if you commute 40 miles each way to work. It's nice that you can cruise around a physically tiny city with temperate weather most of the time but the reality for most people in the country is that that just isn't an option.

  • I am born and raised in SF, I have been an avid cyclist for 20 years now. I DO NOT participate in Critical Mass. Why? Because a lot of shady shit happens in critical mass, and I do not associate with a group that says it is a grass roots movement but then shows otherwise. And, to be fair it's the bad apples in the group that make the rest seem generalized. It's a dam shame!

  • I had driving licence since 8 years, but stil don't need to have a car.

Some cyclist sure is a douchebag, but it's the 1% of the CMass, not like car drivers that at least 30-40% is a douchebag, or much worst, a repressed life person.

The whole Americans are douchebags breaking the laws, and using force to obtain economical resources, to pay US debt to private bankers.

You should worry about other problems. "I don't care about country's laws if I can control their money". this should awake you..

  • Pigeons are rats with wings and Cuntical Mass are just dirty bums with bicycles. Half are bike messengers. 30% are gay (they're the ones who ride without a bike seat) and the remaining 10% are self-righteous skinny liberal bike-Nazis who need an excuse for why they can't afford a Pious. Er, Penis. Prius.

  • @MrKuntly

I'm a every day biker. i had driving licence since 8 years, but stil I don't need to have a car..

and some cyclist sure is a douchebag, but it's the 1 % of the critical mass, not like car drivers that at least 30-40% is a douchebag , or much worst, a repressed life person.

The whole Americans seems like douchebags breaking the laws, and using force to obtain economical resources, to pay his huge public debt to private bank

You should worry about lot of other huge problems.

  • Critical mass is a bunch of douchebags who block traffic, ambulances and funerals so they can show the world how cool it is...to ride a bicycle. Here's a tip: keep a ziplock baggie of piss next to your seat. When you see one of these assholes, pull up and throw it in his face. It just never gets old!

  • @MrKuntly you carrie ziplock baggies full of piss in you car?

  • @MrKuntly

Car drivers are a bunch of people who block cyclists.

  • @MrKuntly

The whole America seems like douchebags breaking the laws, and using force to obtain economical resources, to pay his huuuge public debt to private bankers.

So I Won't worry too much about cyclist breaking the law ...

You should worry about lot of other huge problems.. "I don't care about some country's laws if I can control their money". this should suggest you something..

  • San Franciscans are the best and worst people on earth

  • If you purposely initiate a confrontation (any CMer knows that is what's going to happen,be honest) then how can you see yourselves as victims when the confrontation goes badly for you ??

  • Critical Mass is fantastic...give more lanes and more space for bicyclists added incentive for lazy asses to get out of their damn cars and get on a bike.

  • @loetechs I know, huh? Screw all those people that can afford cars and have to travel miles to work uphill. If they just got out and rode a vehicle the traveled one sixth the speed and is outdoors and at mercy of the unforgiving elements, everything would be so much better!

  • They have to ruin everything don't they..these fucking lowlifes who picked up a bicycle and use it to "proudly" ride the streets to get thier "Look at me" fix. I hate critical mass demostrations, they give the rest of the bicycle using community such as myself a bad name. Share the road assholes, ride in the right lane and obey traffic rules. This isn't a hard concept. This makes it a thousand times harder for those of us that don't need other assholes to cheer us on in order to ride.

  • @mission762008

    I COMPLETELY agree.

  • 1:10 KRON 4 GUY

  • bastards! get off the fucking road!

  • @dangodoffire Moron get of the earth.

  • Critical Mass has opened my eye to the complete disregard of traffic laws by bicyclist.

I am now against public funding for bicycle safety. Thanks for bringing this to light!

  • another one of the many reasons why i hate san francisco

  • @2luviz2h8 your kind of a loser aren't ya??

  • @loetechs nah, I just don't like SF. The area isn't nice, it's hilly as shit, too crowded, usually cloudy in Daly City. The only spots I like is the pier place.

  • Does Anybody Ride Fixie At San Fran?

  • @HolyCrap29 a lot do lol

  • @HolyCrap29 even the cops lol

  • I've been watching these videos and miss the glory days of bike riding. Can't wait to buy me a bike soon. Critical Mass = Worldwide Bicycle Brotherhood/Sisterhood.

  • 1:10 in the pedicab: IT'S STANLEY ROBERTS FROM KRON 4, THE PEOPLE BEHAVING BADLY GUY!

  • u still have to follow all traffic controls

  • My only vehicle is a bike. I commute and road race on a bike. Critical Mass riders do not represent bicyclists. They are not advocates for bicyclist's rights. They are doing nothing to promote safety. They are holes, plain and simple. FCM.

  • @ClockCutter Exactly...look at these people. I would bet 9/10 only ride a bike during these lame demostrations. They use this to have something to twitter about or put up cool facebook photos of them "taking back the streets" on thier Toys R Us pos bike. Just please stop..please you are doing nothing but damage to those of us that avidly enjoy bicycling

  • I'm from Madrid, here there is critical mass too but someday I would ride in San Francisco and other cities, a kind of critical mass turism haha

    We are the traffic!!!!!!

  • What is the point of critical mass?

  • annoy people and break the law

  • make people aware that bikes are traffic too

  • @FunkyLegend As someone who rides a bike and drives a car I find the whole thing to be very silly and utterly pointless.

  • I think it's not the most practical way to send a message but it does make people think. I'm not sure of any other approach that would have the same impact as a demonstration like this does. It doesn't help that all this does is piss off motorists for one day a month, but then you have to consider that it is only ONE day a month. The way I see it the more people see bikes and think about bikes the better, whether it be positive or negative.

  • exactly, I ride a bike and obey all traffic rules, how does running red lights and stopping traffic prove anything? Gives up good bikers a bad name.

  • anybody can ride a cycle or take public transport. so the people in cars that cry about this have no excuse.

  • Critical mass is illegal, I call the police right away when I see it happenng.

  • @BestTits you would think having wars to get oil would be illegal too, but we kinda stay hush hush about that, maybe you should too

  • oh god lol on so many levels

  • i heard traffic is friggin crazy when this happens

  • Bicicletada de São paulo Brasil é melhor !

  • aguythatusesthissite, think about what you are saying.

  • crittical ass

  • this really, really needs to be combined with the open carry movement

  • im sorry if you drove that day

  • Yeah I get a little tired when every damn day as I'm walking home from work on the SIDEWALK I practically get run over by a bike riding on the SIDEWALK

  • what is and average crowd for one of these 3000-4000 ??

  • And as for CM not letting pedestrians cross the street in front of them, that's gotta fucking end. Like now.

As a movement, Critical Mass is fighting fire with fire. It's low-scale terrorism really.

  • CM may have been about the environment and health in the beginning, but it's long lost those goals. Now it's about getting as many bikes on the road as possible and disrupting traffic (both vehicle and ped) as possible during the ride through. It's unfortunate that it's now turned disruptive instead of helpful. But, that's what happens when you get far too many bikes on the road. Ultimately, It's going to end in confrontation... and YoutTube proves that with all of the CM videos here.

  • Well nothing against cyclists, I AM a cyclist, but:

Yeah, I'm tired of Critical Mass; it's largely lost track of the movement's original origins and now seems like mainly a bunch of apathetic punks and airhead hipster poseurs who want to ride in the middle of the road and drink beer and yell, and then expect everyone to treat them like they're heroes or something. Bah....

  • true, in LB the span of protest riders is going down and just the hipsters are left, but not all of them are purely in it for the hype, some of them still, like me , enjoy the ride

  • Bikers in the city suck! I just had to yell at one today for cursing at a handicapped ped. These fucks most die!!! Get your ny bullshit cool kid stuff out the way by moving to brooklyn. peace fuck!

  • at least they ride a bike, they dont make traffic 10 times shittier by car

  • Never drive a car and never owned one ,don't need cars. It's about respect not the environment, we all have to live in the city and no group has a right to be assholes for doing something that seven years olds do. Every day i see these fools cut peds off, act like dipshits and almost cause accidents because their more worried about their shoes matching their handlebars than learning how to ride a bike.

  • i agree with you there, the right of way is

pedestirans > cyclists > vehicles, but (almost) everyone thinks they have the right of way, no matter what

  • actually, at least in Colorado, there is no cyclist catagory in what you described. Cyclists are required to follow the same rules as motorists and are treated as such. I have actually been pulled over for speeding on my bicycle before, luckily I was too young at the time to have a drivers license. Cyclists should stay to the right and cars should be able to pass them like they would slow moving cars.

I love watching bikes getting run over during these critical mass things (without people)

  • What bothers me is that they don't let pedestrians cross the street. What is the point of that? Are they against walking too??? lol

    Hypocrites.

  • That is kinda bothersome

  • Seriously. I'm all for spending big bucks on biking improvements in our cities, but these people are just pricks.

  • Does Critical Mass still meet at this spot every month? I'm thinking of doing this too :)

  • yep, just went to the one last month

  • I love critical mass!

  • watch?v=4pn_q6DwP6U watch Critical Mass 2009.04.28 Lithuania city Klaipeda.

  • Way too easy. what do we exactly prove here? That we can take over the Embarcadero? Please. Critical Mass on an LA Freeway is the purest and most effective expression of what this supposed to signify. Look it up.

  • To Wozerd:

I'm simply telling you what we do at a Critical Mass ride. We simply ride through the streets, that's it! Critical Mass is a peaceful event. I disagree with any cyclist or driver who isn't peaceful. We get police escorts to protect us from people like you, not because of us riding through the streets. Also, we get support from most drivers.

Every time I have called you out on something, you have had nothing to say except trying to talk about your own situation/context.

  • Comment removed

  • To Wozerd:

First, we can all tell that you are really tough! Honestly, lets talk about what little substance you actually wrote. Have you ever heard of "cyclist intimidation"? We get crap from people all the time on the road. You people have no respect for others. You will get so angry that you will use your vehicle to commit an assult, which, YES, is a felony. Nobody is talking about an accident where the cyclist is at fault. You are simply declaring your own ignorance.

  • To Wozerd again:

By the way, the "cyclist intimidation" I speak of, which amounts to serious assults on cyclists every year, is read coming straight out of your reply. Really, your reply is comical. It sounds funny, we really laughed! I mean, what biker is threatening you to the point where you are squashing them? I also like how you have your whole story all ready, very smart. You are a joke! Seriously, I don't care about you in your car, so you shouldn't care about me on my bike.

  • To Wozerd:

I don't understand where you are going with your comments.

I originally said that when critical mass "swams" traffic, you having to wait for us to pass by, forcing you to sit in traffic. Who is talking about cyclists surrounding cars and threatening drivers for no reason? That is all we do at critical mass. The problem is people like you who don't like that and the assults usually come from the driver, experiencing road rage. What isn't clear about that?

  • To Wozerd:

Refering to your last three comments:

Your first comment says you would fight back if you are being assulted. We would all do that, but nobody is talking about a group assult on a driver.

You second comment says you would leave an accident if you were being assulted. We would all do that, but again nobody is talking about that.

Your third comment says you would blame the victims, in this case the CM cyclists, if someone got shot or intentionally run over by a driver.

  • @ftcsfc Thanks for the comment.

I've changed my thoughts on Critical Mass, with alot of the riders breaking traffic laws and just being jerks. I believe that cyclists and drivers of motor vehicles should respect eachother, and that is not what Critical Mass promotes. So, I'm sorry to you and to those who have been disrespected. I'm still a cyclist, but not one who wants to disrespect others.

  • @BenjiUltra wow, thats great if only those thousands who partake in CM were smart enough to say what you just said. I applaud you sir.

  • @ftcsfc Thanks for the great reply.

Cyclists don't contribute money to roads, like vehicle registration and gas taxes. Therefore, us cyclists should not get in the way of motor traffic. Rather, we should ride on bike paths or in bike lanes, often considered park space, riding off of the roads and away from motor traffic. Roads are serious business and no place for anything but motor vehicles.

  • Comment removed

  • @BenjiUltra Comment removed.

  • This is a demonstration! Obviously it's not the way cyclists should go around all the time. You're stupid if you can't realize this. Yes, if it was a normal situation, and not a demonstration, they would all be riding closer, not spreaded all about the street ¬¬

  • We all need to get out of our cars and onto bikes folks I'm being super...DUPER SERIAL! I COULDN'T BE MORE SERIAL RIGHT NOW!!

  • I'm new to the city...when and where does critical mass gather in SF?

  • I love Critical Mass, the only thing I wish would happen, is they obey the traffic signals and stay on their side of the road. It's a bit heart stopping when you're driving and a bunch of bicyclists come towards you in your lane.

  • This was revenge for the video BUCKYSTEIN (#7) VS. Critical Mass ROAD RAGE! Where a giant badger destroys CM

  • now thats a decent kind of critical mass. everyone seems to have a good time.

  • A dense City like SF not meant for cars.

  • I am all for saving the environment, but I wished bikers respected red lights and stop signs more often.

  • I'm a regular bicycle commuter, and I couldn't agree with you more. It's shameful.

  • Critical Mass and their pseudo-anarchists tactics are gay.

  • f..k critical mass!

  • i love critical mass in sf

  • I find it interesting that people hate cyclists so much, and they see them so extremely rarely, that all the passerbys are shitting themselves with rage and confusion. They're just people on bikes. Get over it.

  • critical mass sucks

  • I love the one girl biking while talking on the cell phone. lol.

I wish my city had a Critical Mass like this.

  • There never seems to be a suicide bomber around when you need one, is there?

  • ok............you are a sick little fuck. just shut the fuck up idiot because what you just said happens to one of the most fucked up things I've heard in a long time.

    Go die in a hole

  • awesome ride, even the police joined in.

  • i dont see nothing criminal here u morons,lets ride !

  • WTF you talking about? Ride on your fking bike lane and leave the other lanes for what they were intended for, cars, you ho! If this shit was in europe, not only you'd get your fking ass kicked and beat to the curb, but runned over and left for dead.

  • bikes have the same road rights as cars smart ass

  • If that's the case then bikes need to obey those laws. Stop running red lights, stop riding in crosswalks (you are not pedestrian), stop at stop signs, etc. My problem with cyclists is that they think they are entitled to do whatever they please whenever they please with no regard to other road users. I hear this argument all the time, usually shouted at me after skidding to a stop because someone just rode through a red light or stop sign. You do not get to have your cake and eat it too.

  • you don't know shit about traffic law eurofag.

  • I hate these fleas with a fervor that's hard to describe. I had the misfortune to be in the city on a Friday when these criminals were out harassing the public. They wouldn't let us make a left hand turn for over 45 minutes. Next time I'm bringing a bat.

  • Share the road, dude.

  • ...dont block the road and respect traffic at least pothead

  • Share the road? I would have loved to share the fucking road, but I couldn't as there were thousands of assclowns on bikes not letting a handicapped woman (who can't ride a damn bike) make a left hand turn! I don't think you've actually seen a CM in San Francisco. Those people are horrible. Rude, obnoxious, petulant little turds. I was trying to be nice to them at first but after half an hour, my goodwill was gone.

  • And cyclists would love to share the road with motorists if it weren't for their tendency to drive like assholes, throw things out the window, talk on cell phones and generally endanger lives. Critical Mass isn't about making you appreciate bikes; It's about making you aware of bikes. Mission accomplished. Drive safely.

  • So you're going to punish everyone for the misdeeds of a few? I agree with you that the majority of American drivers can't drive for shit. I was blessed to live in Germany for 7 years where people know how to drive. The highways are spotless and it's illegal to talk on a cellphone. But I still wouldn't hold up traffic for hours and damage peoples cars to make a point. Wow, for someone who wants me to coddle them and their rights, you sure don't give a shit about anyone elses.

  • So you're willing to blame EVERYONE for the misdeeds of a few? I've done a few CM's and intentional car damage is rare and frowned upon. As for holding up traffic, tough shit. Traffic jams happen everyday for a variety of reasons. It's just that typically you don't know if it's a car wreck ahead, a train stopped on the tracks, or a closed street somewhere in the system. You waiting in your car for a bit longer is a small price to pay for improved cyclist awareness.

  • A bit longer. 10 minutes, sure. 45 minutes, I want to see to see bicyclists in severe pain. It's ok, I know now when they happen and should I ever have to be in the city when one is going on I will be prepared. The cyclists were egging us on, trying to get us to come into the street. Telling us they were going to destroy my car. Don't play innocent, these "treehuggers" don't have peace in mind, they have violence. Which is good because so do I and bitches don't come meaner than me.

  • Well if I saw them I would drive the opisite way down the road at them. Im sure they could be doing better things than holding up a city.. Loosers >__>

And they could at least use the bikes for somthing good - or recycle the bikes to make decent ones - ei BMX's

  • One a month I had to put up with another group, who thinks of SF as their playground and the rules do not apply.

I never knew bicycle awareness involved running red lights, holding up traffic(including emergency vehicles), and instigating fights.

You want to promote bicycle awarness you have to set a good example. I cycle and my friends, family, and others take notice, and do the same.

CM does more harm than good, and gives me, (avid cyclist) a bad name.

    Don't insult my intelligence.

  • I'm jumping in mid-conversation here, but the few times I've gone to critical mass there was heavy police presence that led the way for the group. This in my mind associates critical mass with any other public demonstration which is allowed due to freedom of speech. Sure, there are some fringe characters that may go against the general message, but I don't think that they should discolor the communal point.

  • What is the point? Bicycles have the same rights to the road as motor vehicles?

  • I'm all for cyclists rights. but not when they break the law

  • i wish i could be in that, but there are no major cities by me

  • critical idiots!

  • Critical Mass = Criminal Massholes

  • hahaha

  • On July 25, 2008 in Seattle, a mob of Critical Mass bicyclists assault a motorist.

"a man and a woman in a Subaru station wagon tried to pull out of a parking spot. But some of the bicyclists blocked them, sat on the car and began banging on the vehicle...One biker punched the driver through an open window and another used a knife to slash the tires. When the driver got out of the car a male suspect struck him with an unknown object in the back of the head..."

    - Seattle (AP), July 26, 2008

  • there will always have morons like them who love getting all the press attention to associate themselves with good causes like that.

    Get use to it.

  • what if they're an honest person with a job who just doesn't want to throw so much money away when its perfectly possible to get wherever they need to go by riding a bicycle? thats what i do.

  • First of all, I'm a cyclist. But I have to say, critical mass is a very immature way to advocate cycling. The amount of congestion you people create during your rides creates *far* more polution than had you not decided to creat gridlock over the span of multiple city blocks.

It's all quite hipocritical, and downright stupid. Stop creating a bad image for good people who want to commute with bicycles, while also maintaining the traffic laws.

  • some people say : combat le feu par le feu.

    Beat fire by fire.

And for a lot more people than you'd think, this little baby game actually work, just watch Bush...

  • I'm sorry... you think they don't know what they're advocating?

IT'S BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT CRITICAL MASS EXISTS.

    Fucking Rednecks.

Bicyclists have as much right on the road as anyone else, so who are you to say they don't?

  • They have a right to the road, but California law has restrictions in place for cyclists which these critical masses completely violate..

  • which laws? im just wondering.

  • there's one that says bicycles have to ride single file, for one :)

  • The bicycle is now a political statement and apart from the angry SUV driver I have encountered, it is the cyclist who has yet to realise the political reality of what they do everyday who has the most scorn for CM. CM'ers are not all leftist, we have had mayors and political leaders of all stripe take part in the mass.

It's ok to be angry at a bunch of people blocking the road with their bikes, are you equally angry at people blocking the road with their cars ?

  • are you fucking stupid? assholes blocking the roads with their faggot ass bikes are not the same as cars. Cars want to go but can't. You faggots just take your sweet ass time. You can't even manage to go the speed limit on most roads therefore impeding traffic. I hope someone tries this shit in Atlanta. The rednecks here will run there ass over.

  • I love bicycles, and I hate Critical Mass, because they are leftist goons who assault car drivers and cops and make ass-clowns of themselves.

  • Lets have a bunch of pedestrians get in their way during Critical Mass and see how much they like it.

  • after what these faggots did to a guy in a car in seattle the other day....I wish it had been me in that car! I got somethin for you little pricks!

  • how fun are these gas prices :]

  • What's with all these hostile douchebags against bikers!? The DMV should really set out a psychological analysis before considering applicable licenses. I almost got hit by sum fuckhead the other day because he wouldn't stay out of the bike lane...

  • I hate Critical Mass because they have no respect for the general public. They shout and yell at people trying to cross the street or get into the BART and MUNI.

I don't even think they really know what they are advocating.

  • or maybe everybody just shouldn't get so butt hurt about one day of people riding their bikes in the street.

  • we know we don't own the road, but the point is to raise the awareness that we use and pay for the roads too. In Vancouver we say, "we're not causing traffic; we are traffic."

  • The problem with critical mass is that it is probably the most retroactive demonstration I have ever seen, cyclists fighting for their rights to the road, completely understandable, but these demonstrations just draw attention to these hippie douchebags that want to be seen doing this more than they actually want to do this. They think they own the road, we cyclists have a right to the side of the road, about five inches/bike lane, unless we can keep up with traffic. Not hard to understand.

  • Kick their critical ass!
