  • I am sorry but this is just creepy...

  • Maravilhoso!!! Wonderful!

  • ciao topolona

  • I believe Siouxsie referred to Robert Smith as Fat Bob. I don't think he's ever been able to live that down.

  • Siouxsie+Robert Smith= The Dark Queen and King (Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Cure)

  • She is very fine! I wish i could go back to 1982!

  • WHAT

    THE

    FUCK

  • Much more fun singing this than listening to this :D

  • funny version of christmas song..RS is drunk jajaja rare?

    Saludos paganos

  • This is the first Christmas carol I remember, as a little kid living in Lyon. If you listen to the traditional French version it's an incredible melody, and then you can see Siouxie's version is amazing in the way she interprets it.

It's a pity she totally butchers the French wording (especially in the second verse), but this song really shows what a great vocalist she is.

  • Il est ne le'divin enfant .."it is not the divine child.

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII - no, that would be 'He is born, the divine child'.

  • zo als het verdomme hoort.

  • Now that was surreal. But good.

  • J'adore ce! Il est tres cool!

(Translation: I adore this! It's really cool!)

  • what the... IS THAT ROBERT SMITH??!! what's he doing not in the cure?

  • @eggsammichz omg it is robert smith! i recognize the butt chin!

  • @eggsammichz

In September 1979, two of the members of Siouxsie & The Banshees, John McKay (guitar) and Kenny Morris (drummer) walked out of the band during a signing in an Aberdeen record shop. Robert stepped in to help the Banshees finish off their 1979 tour. New drummer (Budgie) and guitarist (John McGeoch) joined the band in early 1980.

After John McGeoch left the band in late 1982, Robert Smith joined the band again in October 1982 - 1984.

  • never heard this one before, either. not a bad tune. shit quality but tha'ts okay..if siouxsie is on it, how bad can it be???

  • I've never heard this before. J'aime bien ca! I have a degree in French and I totally worshipped Siouxie and the Banshees and the Cure when I was a teen in the 80's. So, this is a real treat!

  • Love the gazes of the men at the beginning ha ha 8>

  • KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I love Robert Smith!!

  • outstanding performance by robert smith xD

  • Siouxsie is Beautiful!

  • To SCYTHROP : This TV show took place just before Xmas 1982, was recorded in Paris. The show was called LES ENFANTS DU ROCK and Robert SMITH did the music of the show (Just like heaven) They performed after 3 bottles of VSOP Cognac LOL

  • if I remember it was recorded for the nice french television show "Les enfants du Rock" (Christmas 82 ?). The poor quality of this recording save Robert Smith... Originaly he balance from left to right all the time and forgot to use his cymbals :-)))

They were completely drunk after "tasting" some bottle of french Cognac.

  • beaytiful reminds me of Os Mutantes

  • what a lullaby >:p <3

  • The blonde one is the drummer, the dark hair one is Mr Robert Smith!!

  • I don't know if she's Christian, but, she is very fine lookin"!

  • "He is born, the divine child"

  • hah this is so eerie!! ahah how cool

  • The title actually translates "The divine child was born". I love her when she sings in French, being half Belgian she obviously knows what she's doing:)

  • @Prizak1 yet obviously speaks no French whatever.

  • I like so much

Budgie.

  • @scythrop Merci !

  • @mystickgirls Robert Smith from The Cure. For a while he played in the Banshees. The Cure made the opening show for Siouxsie in the Begginign of their carrer

  • Wowee I'm gonna play this when I dress my tannenbalm

  • Robert wasn't in the band at this time. He was just standing in for this lip-synced video. John McGeoch was the Banshees guitarist during this period. I have a longer explanation but YouTube messed it up.

  • Watching this video is one of those few things that can always make me laugh! :D Long live Black Humor! Long live Siouxsie, Robert, Steven, Budgie and le Divine Enfant, himself!

  • i think that tim burton got his artistic direction for sweeney todd from siousxie, especially this video

  • Klasyka ... ;)

Mouhahhahah =(^_^)=

  • Tan tierno tan oscuro y mistico

  • Ahh! I love this absolutely amazing!

I love the Banshees & the Cure.

Yay for Robert Smith's awesome Symbol skills <3 :P

  • I remember this... Christmas was never the same in our home!!!

  • Sweet! *****! :3

  • its french...

    right???

    Love Siouxsie Sioux!!!

  • Love-d

  • ♥

  • My fav band! I purchased the singles collection just for this song...what-a masterpiece.

Bijeto - "mummers" LOL!!! Your so dead on. (at Broad & Walnut st.'s)

  • "Les Enfants du rock" 1983 je pense, merveilleux.

  • I put this song on my Christmas compilation. It fits perfectly. So Siouxsie, yet so Christmas. They always remind me of mummers in this video.

  • Nice carol and video.

  • Eine tolle Interpretation, man bekommt richtig Gänsehaut!

  • hmmm. this gunna help me with my french class. i have to memerize this song. fun..

  • oh my head.

    thanks for posting.

  • If I saw carolers like this, I'd call the cops!

  • Hahah, somebody keeps saying "chanson" [song] instead of "chantons" [let us sing].

  • LMAO ROBERT SMITH IS IN THIS VIDEO.

  • ....and he is so....Robert Smith-ish!!!

  • Siouxsie, Susan Dallion is half English, half French-speaking Belgian, so the accent is fine. I don't think on the level it's a strong British accent.

She used to live in Neuilly when I was living in Paris a few years ago..

  • She used to live down the street from me in London too.

  • robert looks so cute in this video :-)

  • As usual ;-) !!!

  • so she speaks french? Her hair looks different. she's hot as always.

  • robert smith was with satb? honestly, i never knew... when was this? lmk, plz.

  • This is from 15/12/82. Robert Smith performed a few concerts with the Banshees at the end of 1979 and he became a member from late 1982-1984. He played on the live "Nocturne" album from 1983 and the "Hyaena" album from 1984.

  • Yea, I saw them live around '83 and Robert was on guitar. I even yelled out and asked them to play Faith when I realized it was him on guitar.

  • @thewanderingshrew- And did he play 'Faith' on the guitar?

  • No, but he did laugh, Siouxie too.

  • @thewanderingshrew - Oh that's nice! I feel happy for you. I know how that must have felt for you.

  • the best mon robert et ma petite new

  • Robert Smith and Budgie look so young & ridiculously hot in this - I've never seen this before.

What's really hilarious is that if you look closely, they look totally wasted. I mean, look at Robert Smith - he's not even trying to pretend "fake" play his cymbals. He's literally standing there stammering and staring off into the sky, probably tripping balls or high on opium.

Man I love this era. Dudes really got the crap beat out of them for wearing eyeliner. It was totally outer limits.

  • ahahahahah. yes.

Marc and I used to wear gold eye liner...

We SAB in Australia 83 I think

    They look very bored

  • @RAWarner strange, though..i was 14 in this era, i looked like duran duran, and the rocker scene usually accepted me, because my eyeliner got them the same chick scene i was getting lol. plus, i almost always kicked their ass in their own sport. fuck that, ain't no rocker fag who listens to 'rob-the-dude-ranch' halford / judas priest gonna kick my ass. I proudly sported 'newwave/batcaver' shit all over my clothes and hair. and i was and still am 100% straight. it was just cool to live inThatEra!

  • in my french class for christmas last year we had to go around in the halls and sing this song haha, this and jingle bells and christmas tree, oh and that is the french version of oh christmas tree?

  • Weird.

  • creepy christmas cover! i love siouxsie.

  • Siouxsie rules! <3

  • That one guy looks just like Mr. Bean with a wig on.

Pauvre Robert ,-)

  • Comment removed

  • je t'aime con todo mi corazon.

  • i llike it

    how s it perverse????

  • ...i like it. it's charmingly frightening...in a good, perverse way...

  • this clip cracks me up everytime!!! wtf? Love how Robert Smith never actually clashes the cymbals but looks like he's going to do so at any given moment!!! haha, yessss.

  • that was him alright, funny stuff

  • the banshees had a wicked sense of humour

  • it's wonderful, I love this french accent!

  • This Is A Cute Christmas Song Ill Play It During Christmas

  • i love how they take the piss, and the great thing is that most people probably really enjoyed this when she was snickering behind it all, God bless Siouxsie!!!

  • I love this song !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh wow, being French that's REALLY surprising and amusing! Siouxsie looks gorgeous here too. I sure would have went to midnight masses if Siouxsie had done the singing ;)

  • Mais vraiement extra-ordinaire, ce vidéo!

Like many other songs and covers of Siouxie... this one as well is quite refreshing, though it might be allready 20 yrs of age ;-)

  • The drummer here looks like a young Rowan Atkinson

  • i have 7 &12" believe it is here lyes the divine child how do you spell .lies lyes

  • Very rare!

  • Miltown, it's actually He is Born, the Divine Infant.

  • sale chistoso robert smith

    grande siouxsie

    grande th cure

  • I believe that title translates to "He Is Not The Divine Child", yet it's supposed to be a Christmas carol? Hmmmm. Someone want to clear that up for me?

  • Né (avec accent aigu) = "Born"

  • il est né = he was born

  • "He was born the divine child"

  • You fail French

  • For French people, pls. be kindly aware that the English accent is quite charming to us, and sometimes, even more seducing ! ... I like it anyway !

    Sorry for despising !

  • its hilarius i learned about this in frnch class so i thought she wuz french then me and my uncle were speakin french and i just happend to want to listen to helter skelter and when i typed it in one thing wuz siouxsie covering helter skelter (hahah i just wasted ur time mwahahhaha)

  • my new xmas classic! Siouxsie's father was Belgian...makes sense she is fluent in French...

  • I love this! I'm playing this for Xmas every year from now on.

  • kateur mille on....XD

  • wow....

  • i'm learnig this in school for french

  • I haven't heard this song since the late 70s when we were made to sing it in a French lesson at school. It stuck in my head and I really like the lyrics Pretty surreal version, I must say - strangely fascinating!- thanks for posting - it brought back some really fond memories.

  • Ah, Robert's just sort of...there. Looking at the ground. With some ...cymbals...

  • you know siouxsie gave hm that shit job!

  • my brother ellis is in the salt lake children's choir and sang this song 'tis friggen awsome

  • This is when the Banshees music, creatively went right down the latrine.

Saw them live at this time, swear to god, Bob Smith went through the motions, regardless how cute he may have been to his legion of fans. Siouxsie acknowledges much later that the studio album they recordedwith him was pretty guff (Hyaena).

  • i think they were creative even in 1984 just changing music into morbid new sonorities

  • Hmmm...I take your point but I will emphasise that the sound may have been produced in such a way as you have described, to enhance them. The Banshees would never have done this before. Which proves to me that the songs on 'Hyaena' were weak.

  • For me, the Banshees went downhill with Peepshow. The year was 1988. I was, and still am, a die hard fan who was so excited that they had a new album coming out. I played it over and over and tried so hard to love it, but I thought it was such a stupid album! Stupid! I was pissed! It feels good to admit that.

  • My sentiments exactly. What happened? don't tell me it was middle age- they were still only in their twenties at the time!!!!!!

  • I met Siouxsie and Budgie in 1987. She was amazing, graceful, very tall, very white. Budgie was a prick.

  • I met Robert Smith in 1985 and 1987. He was very sweet - a really nice guy.

  • I had the exact same experience, unfortunately....

  • I love Peepshow, my favourite Banshee's album. Probably to poppy for the diehards, but as a latecomer I love it. JuJu and Tinderbox are also excellent

  • Robert is in Wonderland.

  • yes he is...

    orgasmic...

  • Or euphoric but somewhere else, consciously or not !

Congratulations for your music on your home page, The Exploding Boy is a perfect example of a brilliant but forgotten pop song of The Cure.

  • I love christmas

  • Robert looks really cute here :D

  • Siouxsie is Anglo-French, herself. Don't forget that!

  • Il est la! - le divin enfant - Robert Smith (aka GothGod)

I always knew that Robert wasn't the ultimate progenitor of the Goths - it was Siouxsie Sioux all along.... so there!

  • For PadmeAmadildo Robert Smith has said that the Cure's sound is uncategorical. He says it is not Goth!

  • he has said allot of things

  • More like Nico, was the ULTIMATE progenitor of Goths.HA HA Her goth was real though, while all the rest were doing the hammy Hammer Horror thing.

  • I have no idea what she is saying. I just love the way French sounds! She could be saying "Your dog is on fire" and it would sound wonderful to my ears!

  • i did this song in choir there saying He is born, the holy Child, Play the oboe and bagpipes merrily! He is born, the holy Child, Sing we all of the Savior mild. Through long ages of the past, Prophets have foretold His coming; Through long ages of the past, Now the time has come at last! O how lovely, O how pure Is this perfect Child of heaven; O how lovely, O how pure Gracious gift to humankind you can actually find lyrics on google now
  • Kagome442 Thanks for the translation!

  • you're welcome ^_^

  • hey is this noah????

  • naw im Ashley ^_^

  • o i guess i dont know you tee hee

  • How sexy is she in this video? Wow.

  • Rob Smith and Siouxsie! 5 stars!

  • She only knows the first verse, and sure she messes up 1 word, but f*-off canuckian frenchies. Whenever I hear French people singing English songs they mess up the words to those way worse than she messed up the French here. And her voice is great - at least she knows how to sing with conviction and on key even when reportedly drunk off her ass ;-)

  • <3

    Formidable!

  • cute Robert Smitherines!

  • Imagine two complete strangers

who suspect they were meant to be

both in need of love and affection

yet their suspicions prevent something heavenly

  • Like one's teeth, for instance.

  • their underpants smell

  • I remember, it was on french tv, during a famous tv show called "les enfants du rock" at the begining of the eighties, they were ask to sing a famous christmas song in french for the fun. After The animator said they were completly drunk during the record, a bottle of cognac each... They were really banshees ; ))

  • piękne;)

  • this was done 4 bastile day

  • I love her clear and strong voice.
