I think some of you missed the point. He is talking about the sexual dynamic which overshadows peoples lives, especially men's, and the search for romance, especially woman's. He says infinite love and true happiness is found inside ourselves, but most of us are running around the 3 ring circus looking for it in each other, not ourselves. This is a spiritual song. I think it's brilliant

I am a big fan of George, but this is not one of his best. Any song that mentions a horny boy wanting a poor little girl is embarassing for anybody to write, especially an ex Beatle who wrote many masterpieces. The chorus is alright and some nice guitar work, but some of those verse lines make me cringe. It sounds very uninspired to me.

The song is about truth and truth is often embarassing. The little girl simbolizes the true and innocent love that people seek and which the whole world around them demands them to forget, hide and deny. But hiding and denying it means living a life with no real meaning and no real direction, wasting yourself on an empty life that you don't really care about.

All the Beatles masterpieces that you rightfully recognize as such are very much about the same thing as this song, just different words.

Can (could) George ever do right? That one's too preachy. This one's too spiritual. That one's not commercial enough. Now, this one's not deep enough. I think we can forgive him for something lighter, can't we? Just enjoy his singing on this one and the production. I think both are great but for me his 'soaring' vocal track is the kicker here.
