Most of these authoritarian regimes only operated under the veil of communism. They were highly immoral, inhumane, and unethical, and had abandoned communist & socialist principles not long after revolution. Nevertheless, the crimes of Stalin should not be forgotten, and it disgusts me that none of these Soviet thugs were ever trialed or convicted for their crimes against humanity.

And for that matter, concentration camps where for the sole purpose of extermination while the gulags where meant to help out the economy.

My Grandfather was arrested in 1946. Never found out what happened to him. MGB Didn't know themselves. They simply lost track of him somewhere in Gulag. They couldn't even count ALL the prisoners they had. Their bookkeeping system couldn't cope with volume of people in entire Gulag.

All Propaganda, the MYTH of the Gulag has been debunked years ago. Almost all members 69% were the worst of the worst regular criminals, others were suspected domestic terrorists, but unlike the US, the maximum sentence in the gulag did not exceed 10 years, and the numbers of people in them has been also debunked, becuase there couldn't have been that many prisoners based on censuses.
