A dead fish would float on it's side. It doesn't even look dead. And you can clearly see the fish breathing when it's just going to be placed back in the water.

The fish looked dead because he was anesthetized. 10 drops of clove oil per gallon of water and they go to sleep. Once flushed with some fresh water and some manual movement to force water through their gills they wake up and swim off. Excellent way to remove parasites, treat wounds, give injections or do minor surgery.

@SuperQuickStick i had the same problem with my small koi it seems the bigger the koi are the more friendly they get the more they eat. Not to worry, they should be ok having koi out side means that they will have a constant natural food supply. People always make the mistake of putting more food in the pond cause they see one or two fish not getting as much the others (I made the same mistake) which deteriorates your water quality. Hope it all goes well for you.

@SuperQuickStick hi there koi are very fast growing fish so they will out grow your 150gallon pound i have a 2500gallon pound and only have 8 koi in it they are all over 28 inch long . i would put a air pump in your pound it will help your koi and also good for your filter. The bacteria in your filter needs oxygen to thrive with out this bacteria the filter will not work and your ammonia and nitrites will rise and this will be fatale to your fish i also recomend some water movment

no it isn't dead he is a long time above water so he is confused. just like a pike catch a pike hold it 5-10 min above water and put him back in the water he dont move. take his tail push it forward and backward until u see bulbbles comming fromw the gills and let him go.

opzich een interresant filmpje ik zie wel dat er met zorg met de vis word omgegaan maar toch een paar aantekeningen van mijn kant uit ten eerste een groter net gebruiken ten tweede stoord het mij dat er met een vis van deze afmetingen geen mat gebruikt word voor het verplaatsen van de vis als de vis valt op de bestrating krijg je beschadegingen en dat is toch wel het laatste wat je wil met zo'n schitterende koi als laatste vind ik het reanimeren in het water een beetje lomp de vis op ze'n kop??

Was de vis verdoofd ofzo? Zoniet begrijp ik niet waarom je niet even de vis in een beschermzak stopt in plaats van zo hoog boven de grond te tillen, plus verdoofd of niet als je een vis te water laat dan trek je hem gewoon even een paar keer zachtjes heen en weer zodat er water door de kieuwen stroomt en hij sneller op krachten komt. Ik kan iets gemist hebben maar zo doen wij dat met wildvissen.

That fish is spawn bound,, it has a blockage where it cannot get rid of its eggs thats why it is so bloated, they can die of it as the eggs will cause an internal infection which wll spread.
