Why is it that every time I look up a Christian music video, the comments are just a bunch of people arguing doctrine? I thought Christians were supposed to be like meek and gentle and peaceful. You people argue a lot.
Totally love this version -- the video, parts of it not so much but I would not let that take away from the beauty of the music :-) <3 Thanks for sharing!
Imagine if you were a parent who had two sons, both of who had estranged themselves from you. Both broke relationship with you, hurt you, broke your heart. If opportunity came to bring them home again and reestablish that relationship with them, would you extend your love to one, but ignore the other? Would any parent? Yet that is what Calvinists claim God does. What kind of a heart sees God as that whimsical and partial?
I know what you mean. The Lord I have come to know is so Holy and pure. He is compassionate, kind and forgiving and doesn't want to lose anyone. Calvinism in today's church has fueled this new religion that encourages people that sin is okay. It is a frightening position to take.
"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out." John 6:37 As a child of God we should want to honor and please him. This doctrine does not condone sin. Instead, as a child of God we should want to do our Father's will. "The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice." John 10:3-4
You are using human reason to argue with the Bible. Read Romans 9.
"14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses, 'I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.'"
@Itrytotestify yes God will have "mercy" on whom he will but it doesn't say I will give salvation on whom i give salvation i can love someone but not have mercy on them when people choose not to follow Jesus and the end comes and he throws them into the pits of hell he still loves them but his mercy is no more Salvation is not mercy and Salvation is for everyone for God so loves the world salvation comes from Gods love Mercy comes from Gods choosing
"4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—"
Are any of you who hold to Calvinism even aware of William Cowper's story? He was an 18th century minister and poet who struggled mightily with mental illness. The last 40 years of his life he fought with the belief that he had committed unforgiveable sin and was forever lost. And that man penned this song as a lifeline to hang on, his one single hope in that fountain filled with blood. Sinners plunged beneath that flood---ALL sinners---lose ALL their guilty stains. Salvation is for ALL.
what a beautiful song, it tells about the Lord's great love, king and patient hi's having with all of us. He is watching us from above and waiting with open arms until we come to Him by our own will. I can not said anyhing else, but that He is Good. now it 's our decision to get or reject what He has to offer us. John 3:17
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
I find it very interesting to note that all those who wholeheartedly believe in high Calvinism are already Christians. Not an unbeliever among them. Why? Because only those who feel they are safely locked into heaven can feel safe clinging to a doctrine that teaches many lost will never even be given a chance to be saved, since God damned them in eternity past. How very lucky for those fortunate few. And how very, very convenient. What kind of a heart could believe such cruelty?
It's not about God cruely damming people, it's more about the fact that God is loving enough to save even a single person that we should think. I know that I deserve an eternity in hell.
And so God chose to offer you an opportunity to escape hell even though you deserve to be there, but He chose not to extend that opportunity to many others who are no different than you? Just random choice? Offer this one escape---damn this one, offer this one escape, damn this one---like that? How can ynyone who believes in a just and loving Creator believe such a thing? And if it were true, what would it say about the character of that Supreme Being?
God loved me enough to save me, why did he do that? I cannot say, I did not deserve it, that I can say. That God is loving enough to save some of us is incredible.
@storypeddler verse you can use hope you enjoy! :) John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. whosoever means whoever God loves the people in this world so much that he wants whoever to come to His Son Jesus whoever means you i and "the whole world!
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
God does not want "Any" to perish but he does want "All" to come to repence "any means no one" "all means everyone" and "whoever means the whole wide world" remember folks at cross no matter what race what denomination what religion what back ground what sin what gender at the cross were all at the same level and Gods people said Amen!
I have never understood why some people are so eager to make God a vindictive tyrant who gleefully assigns people to hell. It breaks His heart that so many reject Him. If one thing is consistent about God, it is His character. He is ALWAYS holy, just, and loving. ALWAYS. To paint Him as one who willfully and intentionally created individuals He knew would be lost, and then willfully and intentionally refuse to offer them salvation shows a complete and total lack of understanding of who God is.
A person can know the Bible is God's Word by first examining the claims of Scripture, considering the evidence for those claims, and then personally accepting the challenge of Scripture to "taste and see" if these things be true. The psalmist gave the following challenge.
O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the one who takes refuge in him (Psalm 34:8).
Beautiful arrangement, and it was good to witness the baptisms, I hadn't seen them done like that before. Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed it more than the theological debate below...
Sorry- that makes no sense. You can not take random verses scattered throughout the Bible and build a system of doctrine around it. Some have called it "spoof texting." Take passages like Romans 2, Romans 8 and 9, Eph 1 and 2, etc, and let the scriptures speak for themselves. Read Hebrews from start to finish and ask "Is the death described here redemptive or potential?"
The doctrines of Calvinism stand up to the test of Biblical examination.
hello bros please lets go back to the favorite verse spoken by jesus himself John 3:16 he gave the greatest invitation ...how would a loving God just send his son for just a few . Ofcourse you are right the whole wide WORLD has an invitation to the FOUNTAIN OF BLOOD!
I fully accept and believe the five point TULIP acrostic formed by John Calvin. I boast in the cross tho, not this acrostic. To say the Christ paid in full the price for every man ever born..you must be consistent and state that Christ must condemn some to hell AFTER being their atoning sacrifice on the cross. (I loathe such a thought) The truth that God would save even one man is infinite grace! Every heart was born depraved, not God-seeking. Tis amazing grace that he would choose even one!
Calvinism teaches that God determined in eternity past who would and who would not be offered any opportunity to be saved. It states that He picked some to offer redemption to and others He simply chose to abandon to hell. To allow individuals to be born into sin without hope and deny them any opportunity to be saved is a picture not of a loving Father, but a heartless despot. To teach such besmirches the very character of God. His very word declares He is no respecter of persons.
That is a PART of the teaching of Calvinism. We also point out and affirm that man of himself is utterly depraved, hating God, and His holy Law. No man is deserving, and no man will embrace the savior unless the Holy Spirit changes him. The question of fairness is not a good one- the question is "Why anyone?" Eph 2 goes deeper into our previous state and the great mercy He shows to His people, redeemed not of their own accord, but rather by the sacrifice of our great Savior, Jesus Christ.
Here's the problem with that "utterly depraved" doctrine. It is one thing to say man is completely fallen, lost in sin, and away from God. I agree with that. He cannot save himself. However, if in saying "utterly depraved" you mean man is absolutely without any virtue and is absolutely devoid of all Godly qualities, you are in error and are simply mouthing a doctrine. Adam was lost the moment he fell, but he did not stop loving God nor desiring fellowship with Him. The doctrine is in error.
There are goods left in fallen man - but they are worthless *for salvation*. The saying ,"the virtues of the pagans are shining vices" makes this point. In that sense, a Christian child is better off than a philosopher living before Christ, even though the child lacks the philosopher's brilliance of intellect.
The Fall was a *fall* - not a hiccup or a bump. Nothing less than the death of "God-with-us" was enough to repair us. Surely that says "everything" about what sin does to man.
Thanks for the reply. I agree with the doctrine as it has been historically understood- there is no good thing in man to cause God to love him, or to be inclined to love him. There is also nothing in man to incline him to love God. We are dead in our sin (Eph 2, Rom 1,2,3). God is inclined to us for reasons we have not been given, and God has chosen to redeem a people out of lost humanity. It is all of God, and His majestic work.
@MountainWalt someone once wrote down a message to preach and maybe one they'll be able to preach it but the message was such a heart gripper it was about how God said let us make man in our own image and they wondered if when Eve and Adam took that first bite of the fruit was it almost as if satan had picked up a nail with a hammer and smashed the very image of God in us as if satan just laughed while the image of God in us just shattered into a million broken pieces
but oh as Jesus died on the cross did the Holy Ghost begin to pick up every single broken piece gluing it back together with that precious blood that flowed from Emmanuel's veins did the Holy Ghost just pick up the blood the gushed from Jesus and begin to put the image of God back were it belonged :D what a message i wish one day it will be preached anyway just wanted to share :) God bless
"The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one." Psalm 14:2-4
But in the sense of spiritual application, that blood flows just as freely today for anyone who repents and asks God to forgive him. The shedding of Jesus' blood paid the price for the sin of all men, but salvation only comes to those who ask God for it. It isn't automatic. No, Jesus isn't still bleeding physically today, but when I asked Him to forgive me and save me, spiritually speaking, His blood flowed ove me like a fountain and made me clean, forgiven, and redeemed. Oh, what a Savior!
Christian mythology is no different than Hindu mythology or Greek mythology; it influences popular culture. This song is well constructed, and I can appreciate those qualities without subscribing to the myth that god came down out of the clouds and waved his magic wand and fairy dust and created the world in 7 days, just as I can gaze at a Greek temple and appreciate the architectural splendor without believing that Zeus got mad and threw lightning bolts, and that's why we have storms.
sorry but this is just not a healthy perspective of the cross. if christ died on the cross for all the sins of every man, than every man would be saved. so if people whose sins were forgiven on the cross are going to hell, jesus would have spilt his blood for nothing. he died only for those who are redeemed, we do not choose God, he chooses us.
Im not confused. I am not taking the scriptures out of context, I am not twisting theology. Christ died for sinners, yes. But he did not spill his blood to only have it rejected from those who are unregenerate.
we cannot accept christ as sinners.sin cannot stand in the prescense of God. his blood washes us clean and makes us righteous, and therefore he redeemed us before the world even began.
Then you don't understand the eternal sacrifice planned together among the Trinity before the foundations of the world. Jesus died for all men, but alas, not all men accept His sacrifice as payment for their sins. Calvinism is heresy.
It's a great pity that these doctrines taught by the Bible have been labeled "Calvinism". However, this is the fact of the matter, so we shall call them just that. If you think these teachings are herecy, then you need to go and read your Bible again. And not only just read it, you need to study it too, as these doctrines are far too meaty for us paltry humans to just label them as herecy. Personally, I think Armenianism is herecy as it teaches loss of salvation, which the Bible DOES NOT teach!
God is the great, eternal I AM, and He exists outside of time. He planned my forgiveness before he laid the foundations of the universe. Jesus was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. That sacrifice supercedes time or man's understanding. No, Jesus isn't physically hanging on a cross and bleeding any longer---that lasted for six hours one Friday over
2000 years ago, and then He said "It is finished!" At that moment, the price for sin had been paid once and for all eternity.
ım prayıng to Hım every nıght for the day. ı know the prıce was paıd at calvary but ı need to talk to Hım and say sorry...not because He wıll turn me away from heaven ıf ı don't - but because ı love Hım.and ı want to come be wıth Hım and apologıse for hurtıng Hım.
Hıs mercıes are fresh each mornıng_ !! That ıncludes ''today''. and ıt's lıke a fountaın because ıt never loses ıt's power, and because the forgıveness and grace never runs dry.
Perhaps 'goof' wasn't very polite. But this song is obviously an allegory...Jesus used parables and allegories quite often. I think it's perfectly acceptable. God gave the song writer a powerful imagination, and I'm glad he used it.
yah i think stellazine or lithium might be of help. the song is just a symbol just like communion Jesus didnt mean to drink real blood. Its had symbolic meaning.
If you want more edifying music from Red Mountain Church, buy their album Help My Unbelief. Old Hymns, New Arrangements. When you finish listening to it you will have "A Melting Heart and Weeping Eyes". It will bring tears of joy to your eyes and heart. Glory To God Alone.
And for the rest of the folks involved with this song, vocals and guitar are Karl Digerness, violin is Josh Meredith and harmonies are Ashley Spurling.
i was too befuddled. i didn't think it was edgar... but then again i wasn't sure. the beginning was so convincing that i grabbed another bassist to check. it still took us some time to determine it wasn't 'edgar'... hats off to it all... i usually don't like hymns redone.
Excellent production video and a beautiful rendition of the old classic! I loved it! 5 stars and favorited. May God add His Blessings to this video. Let all the ends of the earth hear the message of Redemption!
This song has filled my heart with joy and peace. Thank you, and bless the name of Jesus

Oh get off it - you're both wrong. Stop believing fairy tales and just enjoy this song from an anthropological standpoint.

Christian mythology is no different than Hindu mythology or Greek mythology; it influences popular culture. This song is well constructed, and I can appreciate those qualities without subscribing to the myth that god came down out of the clouds and waved his magic wand and fairy dust and created the world in 7 days, just as I can gaze at a Greek temple and appreciate the architectural splendor without believing that Zeus got mad and threw lightning bolts, and that's why we have storms.

sorry but this is just not a healthy perspective of the cross. if christ died on the cross for all the sins of every man, than every man would be saved. so if people whose sins were forgiven on the cross are going to hell, jesus would have spilt his blood for nothing. he died only for those who are redeemed, we do not choose God, he chooses us.

is that comment adressed to me? Because I am not confused at all. Christ did not die on the cross for the unredeemed. there is no getting around it.

Im not confused. I am not taking the scriptures out of context, I am not twisting theology. Christ died for sinners, yes. But he did not spill his blood to only have it rejected from those who are unregenerate.
dweisch319 3 years ago
we cannot accept christ as sinners.sin cannot stand in the prescense of God. his blood washes us clean and makes us righteous, and therefore he redeemed us before the world even began.

Then you don't understand the eternal sacrifice planned together among the Trinity before the foundations of the world. Jesus died for all men, but alas, not all men accept His sacrifice as payment for their sins. Calvinism is heresy.

calvinism is NOT heresy.
dweisch319 3 years ago

Perhaps 'goof' wasn't very polite. But this song is obviously an allegory...Jesus used parables and allegories quite often. I think it's perfectly acceptable. God gave the song writer a powerful imagination, and I'm glad he used it.

And for the rest of the folks involved with this song, vocals and guitar are Karl Digerness, violin is Josh Meredith and harmonies are Ashley Spurling.

i was too befuddled. i didn't think it was edgar... but then again i wasn't sure. the beginning was so convincing that i grabbed another bassist to check. it still took us some time to determine it wasn't 'edgar'... hats off to it all... i usually don't like hymns redone.

this is my dad's favorite hymn, and when he dies he wants it sung at his funeral
