For me, he's the greater of the two. I know that can't be called a fact though, as them getting a joint award for FIFA player of the century showed. I just think when you consider what Maradona achieved playing in sides that did not have the quality Pele did, it's remarkable. Maradona may have done some silly things in his career but there's no doubt as a footballer, he will always be revered.
Maradona proved himself throughout his career. His record at club level was superb. As I say, in his spell with napoli in particular, he was amazing. He was unplayable much of the time. What he did for Napoli was the equivilant to what he did for Argentina in 86.

They were both great but drinking, womanizing, getting in trouble, led to their short careers.. Pele had a long career, and only one injury 1968 which prevented him from playing world cup.

Baxter was very good but not in the Ulsterman's league. Best was far more complete. He was also much, much more of a goalscorer and proved his superiority on the biggest club stage.
Ability wise, I think Best was at the least, on a par with Pele. His dribbling for me was superior , all though of course Pele too was top class on the ball.

kanchelskis is right. Baxter was a great talent but not in Best's league. The comparison with Best is Garrincha....both outrageously talented wingers who had self destructive streaks. Pele and maradone achieved more but both Best and Garrincha belong in the elite of talents.

I agree with your view on Best but not Maradona.. No player has been as dominant as he was at a world Cup. His performance in 86 was exceptional. Add to that, he was able to take an average club in Napoli and transform them into Champions. The guys dribbling ability, ball control and technique was amazing. I really find it amazing that anyone can question him.... As for Best, I agree he is one of the best ever without question. His talent on the ball was right up there with Maradona.

i was working in a house in sheffield, the owner was a writer, he told me he was helping best write his last book, best was in the shower when there was a knock on his door, "see who it is" said best, so he opened the door and there was van morrison, van came in, george got out of the shower and they all went to the pub. i never saw him play but my dad who was wednesday thru an thru said best was the best that he ever saw !
