hes really great at articulating may notes. I think if he used a less fuzzy type of distortion he'd sound that much better. BTW huge emperor fan, I'm no stranger to their recording quality.

Such a small action makes such a drastic impact on the sound of the chord by "pumping" the lower strings by accenting them more as he did by working his way up on picking, compared to when he played it just striking up and down, which had a bland sound to me.

in black metal we use atonality as a technique for creating tension in the song - technically-speaking, the notes used are often 'wrong', but it works sooooo good! Ihsahn is awesome.
