  • So many conspiracy theories so little time. The good thing is that we seem to have narrowed down the probable causes of all plane crashes and "terrorist" acts to either A) George Bush B) Dick Cheney C) the US Navy or D) Gremlins. That should save countless millions on long drawn out scientific investigations. As a public service announcement I should remind the Conspiracy Club to change their tin foil hats every now and then. They tend to lose their effectiveness after a few month's. Peace.

  • The plane broke up in-flight after the rudder tore off along with the vertical stabalizer and than the force on the aircraft also ripped off the engine pylons and the plane spiraled toward Belle Harbour and disintegrated and everyone was literally...vaporized by the explosion

  • 6 heavy duty bolts do not pop off from the force of a carbon tail. this plane sat on the ground unwatched the entire night before the flight. there was no way they were going to blame sabotage or design flaw so soon after 9/11. it would have ensured what was already the near bankruptcy of the airline industry.

  • @egglicks I was in a glider a few years ago and the instructor became uncomfortable about how much elevator input i was using, we were both experiencing some G.

  • I'm sure glad this is the ONLY time ANY Pilot has EVER reached maximum pedal deflection flying an A300, since it's 1972 launch 37 years ago.

    I'm also glad to hear the flash and smoke seen in the video, the dozens that witnessed the fire coming from the engines is simply the plane breaking apart because of a rudder failure.

    Guess Airbus's get "French" Fried from rudder failures, unlike say American Boeing MD80s with tail engines, i.e Alaska Air 261 didn't BURST into flames it just splashed down.

  • An inch and a half of rudder pedal movement results in full deflection. The engineers didn't bother to tell us this. They thought the only time you would use the rudder was during engine failure so they made the rudder pedals an "on-off" switch. Also, forever we had to memorize "maneuvering speed" as the max speed you could fully deflect the control surfaces without damage. NOW they say, "Yes, but only once and only in one direction". Problem is, the Airbus has a plastic tail and it breaks off.

  • I took a look at the investigation report and the increased sensitivity of the rudder pedals with speed (or bat least lack of pilot familiarity with this "feature") was cited as one of the contributing factors. The other factors cited were (i) a tendancy of the flying officer to over-react to wake turbulence and (ii) AA training which over-emphasized using the rudder to correct such problems.

  • I fly transatlantic and internal with AA all the time, i have clocked up over 60,000 miles with them in the past 2 years and i always feel safe with them, If you look at how many planes AA own, its bound to be one of them involved in an accident should one happen! so saying NEVER fly AA seems like a pretty dumb ass comment really!!
