Producing a video requires labor, creativity and resources. To view one's video and leave a less than encouraging comment trounces the purpose of online sharing. As the old adage goes: "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all." And with that, I'd like to compliment Mr. Chao on the consistency of his many works--videos and photos--all of which I have seen and find them to be humoring and professional (beyond my capability to say the least).
Do be conscientious of how comments left online may come off to others as people may take offense to what you've chosen to state and the manner in which you've chosen to expressed them; moreover, it would best reflect your intelligence and good will to study up on a subject matter prior to expressing an ill-informed and pejorative opinion.
I assume you are of Southeast Asian decent by your profile--which makes your comment rather hypocritical, though you may not intend it to be. As an Asian raised and living in the states, I also assume you eat American foods. No one is calling you an awannabe White girl for eating American foods. It is therefore disingenuous to call others names without an informed understanding of people's history and the evolution of their culture.
It is important to note that Southeast Asian foods in general share many similarities. Whether Thai, Lao, Cambodian, Vietnamese or Burmese, the blended cultures of these bordering countries are reflected in much of their religious and cultural practices--including but not limited to music, dance and foods.
From my research about hill tribes, those who are from Southeast Asia have a culture that is fused with Southeast Asian cultures from centuries of acculturation in the Southeast whilst hill tribes from China are acculturated with Chinese culture.
the proper spelling is Dam Somc.....perhaps.....i am only a native american. In the mien language the 'd' is pronounced quite similarly to the 'th' sound. The 'Dam' has a flat sound so there is no pronunciation vowel. The 'Somc' has a lower tone so the 'c' is used to indicate the lower tone.
Seksykhamaigirl let's not go there.Mienh and Hmong that live in Laos!!! we consider them as laos and they have the right to cook what ever they want .Many kind of lao food that we eat today came from Mienh but you didn't that cuz you are Khmer.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
mien always a wanna be laos or thai ,cooking and everything laap this tham this ahh huh ...... wannabeeeeees ,stop it already listen to your own language and songs, stop tryin to be thai ,just be yourself o.k. mien people are beautiful ,and the food, culture and everything !!!!!!
seksykhmaigirl -- Please don't be so ignorant. It's called "cultural assimilation"...
If you're here in America and you're singing American songs, speaking English, and making hamburgers to eat, does that make you a wannabe white person?
We Mien people KNOW who we are, but we also adapt and assimilate to our surroundings. It doesn't mean we want to be other people. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be ignorant like you.
whao mien people dont have their own papya scraper they use a knife! ahhhaha im just kidding thats just how i see my mom do it. It looked cool though imma have to go buy one, also what was the jar thing you used? thanks you so much it looked delicious
This video wasn't made to show that I can make papaya salad. Making papaya salad was the subject of the video, but the real point of the video was simply to make a video - filming, acting, editing, etc.
Great video but not very complete. My friends love papaya salad and I thought of sending this to them but the video was lacking in some of the process. Saw the garlic and peppers being chopped but my friends would get confused as to when to add them. What kind of past was used (ex. shrimp past, foul smelly fish mull)? What about sugar? I'd love to see another papaya salad making video so that I may share it with my friends and know that they could duplicate the process without questions.
Hahaha... thank you very much for the comment! I made the video a very long time ago and it was purely for the fun of making a video (to practice editing, filming, special effects). I happen to love papaya salad, so that was my subject. After reading your comment, I'm inspired to make another video... next time, I'll focus more on the accuracy of making papaya salad, not the video. Thanks for watching!!!
smooth cuts. the music is a bit distracting and get's annoying after awhile. caption would be helpful for each ingredient used. like what kind of pepper he used (thai pepper obviously, but some people don't know that), was that fish sauce? etc... just for those whose never had mien papaya salad. plus there are two different papaya salad; the thai and the laos version. mien papaya salad is pretty much the laos version. i like this video but i think it could have been better.
looks good.
can't believe im craving this and pork blood salad at 12am.
