Less than 1% of how long human beings have existed. Arguments that attempt to justify capitalism on some abstract "human nature" are ridiculous. Firstly capitalism has only existed as the dominant system on earth for the last 200 years. Less than 1% of how long human beings have existed. Secondly, Anthropology teaches us that besides the basic social structures to meet our biological needs, gather food, raise children ect., there are very few if any universal qualities of all human societies.

The wealthy do not "give" them jobs, the rent the working class out, and strip them of all say in teh work place. Labor is the only thing you can sell, that someone else sets the price for. Now of course, you are going to say supply and demand sets the price for labor. He talks about too many houses being built and sitting empty but he doesn't mention that the government instituted a socialist policy forcing banks to make loans to people who couldn't afford them! It's government intervention that creates problems in free markets and the government and ignorant people who then blame capitalism for the problems that socialist policies create.

A word of caution-
For most intents and purposes, Marx was an economist. Should tell you a lot about anyone juxtaposing socialism with capitalism and declaring them opposites. Socialism is in a sense an extreme ideal which people have to make sure that their government works toward. And by the way government catering to the wealthiest is not any kind of socialism it is oligarchy
What should have been in place has been a system to shore up the consumer based economy. Instead we get lobbyists

I need to start keeping up with news from my homeland. I wasn't even aware that teachers had clashed with the government in P.R. Last time I was there (couple of months ago) all I took from the visit was that: (a) everyone complains about the government and the economy (low wages, etc.), but all the same since (b) no one (especially the youth) cares enough to do anything about it. However, mention a party and they are all in.
