  • So true and false have "intrinsic values" but "ethics or moral" propositions do not.

Do I really have to point out the problem with this?

Are you familiar with the law of excluded third?

  • @gigniggner1234

This is one of the same issues that John was having, and it was basically due to his unstudied and contradictory theological views. I had, in this video, presented specific contradictions in his conception of 'god'.

You are arguing via a relativistic ethical system. Is it "true" that 'perfection' (as you're using it) is subjective? I.E. Is it subjective that truth is subjective?

You are in the fallacious circular reasoning of relativism.

  • Its funny you accuse John of quote mining. Here is what verse 14 says according to the NAB.

However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion

Obviously this verse seems to say something different at the word you. Its about the master losing his liking for her, not the woman leaving because she feels like it. Dishonest to say the least.

  • My argument is in the video.

And it is not my fault that John didn't include the surrounding verses. The important point was the bit about the denial of slavery-- if you remember, and will take off the rose-colored glasses; John claimed the passage taught rape.

  • Circular Reasoning: a use of reason in which the premise depends on or is equivalent to the conclusion.

Your premise: Good is whatever God does.

    Your conclusion: God does good.

    Have a nice day.

  • That is not my premise, nor anybodies' conclusion.

Quote me directly if you would like to make an argument.

  • So is screening comments.

  • I put them on approve while I'm away so that people that ask questions will get responses and not feel ignored. It also helps for people who just leave ridiculous comments filled with cursing and/or blasphemy.

  • Great video theologica as usual. Five stars. I know it must get tiring to respond to people like this, but are you going to reply back to JLA?

  • I directly addressed him in his comment section. I wasn't really sure if his was a response to this latest one or not... made the same mistakes and out and out ignored 7 minutes of this video. Anything even remotely philosophical he completely ignored and chose not to respond to.. it was straight semantics.

He has resorted to calling me a liar and ignoring all rational dialogue.

He claims to be making a video to answer my questions and points.. I eagerly await it.

  • You were banned for cursing, guy.

You also proved you weren't here for actual conversation. I asked you a couple of questions, and answered yours. You didn't even try to answer mine.

    Thanks but no thanks.

    Keep the bigotry to yourself.

  • This is a load of crap...

  • Care to actually make an argument? Id be happy to refute you.

Or are you just going to ignore all the arguments that refute you.

  • why is your god the embodiment of all good? what is your proof? you really don't see that you just keep asserting as fact without providing any evidence whatsoever. tell me what makes him an omnibenevolent being, don't just assert that he is or i'm going to assert that you are a moron.

  • I am not just asserting something.

The argument that there exists absolute perfection, and what describes this perfection in our knowledge are different arguments.

You have, like John, ignored this. Even though I very clearly defined the metaphysical distinction in the video.

  • so your idea of absolute perfection is a being who kills us by the millions, kills babies, tells people he is going to have them watch their wives get raped right in front of them is perfection, you have a pretty screwed up idea of what perfection is. tell me, what is the material equivalent of perfection?

  • your argument is flawed on so many levels it isn't even funny. who is the judge of this perfection? what is perfection measured by?

  • you haven't even passed a basic philosophy course or you would know that perfection is only a concept and isn't possible to acheive.

  • LOL. Can I take some of these last assertions and put them on my page? This is absolutely classic.

I have, in case you were wondering, passed many philosophy courses.

Perfection as a concept is made sense of in some way. You have just admitted that something is perfect--

    But,

"[its] only a concept" Care to unpack that?

Also, we have already refuted this bit about rape in the Bible or any of these other baseless assertions. John has made it quite clear just how ridiculous such arguments are.

  • no you made it quite clear you can't even read your own bible properly. define perfection for me, how about that.

  • I asked you a couple questions there, care to answer them?

  • yea put anything you want on your page, by all means.

    perfection is a subjective concept.

  • who ever told you perfection is an objective concept and if so how is that measured?

  • i'll do that. Perfection is the optimum. Good enough?

  • achieve*

how about ol jesus, was jesus perfect? by whose standard was he perfect, his own?

  • SIR.

    . . .

    CALM DOWN.

  • Oh, I completely agree. We can't change their mind, but sometimes it isn't about the other. Reason against this can very well improve ourselves. Or in my case these videos improve me =P

  • "Reason against this can very well improve ourselves."

I think it's more about the people watching the videos who are on the fence. Many (if not most) of them are ignorant of the scholarly historical data surrounding the historical Jesus of Nazareth. If people like John L. Armstrong are not corrected, viewers sitting on the fence may be led in the wrong direction because of easily refutable falsehoods that are laid out by John L. Armstrong and his ilk.

  • Hey Theologica, I thought this guy was you for a minute. His voice sounds almost identical to yours, he's super intelligent like you, he's a Christian apologist, and he never shows his face. After a while, the voice started to sound a little different, but still not sure. lol.

    Is this you ?:

    watch?v=o6Kyxy0_hGg

    hehe

  • Nope.

  • lol

  • GO Catholics!!! Hey Theo. Have you heard of father Barron and his Catholicism project? I think such thing is majesticly awsome. And you totaly nailed this guy. Good pic in the end.

    God bless.

  • While I agree someone wearing such a shirt would be a fool, I do not agree he should be ignored. We should all aspire to live as Christ would. Do you think Christ would have ignored an argument such as this? Because Christ would not ignore such an argument I think it is necessary we should correct the wrong arguments. This is why Theology is so important. Without reason to defend our faith what good is it? Without the need to defend our faith what good is reason? The Truth is on our side.

  • That...was awesome.

  • Lol. Thanks bandfred.

  • I didn't watch the original argument but I can say this...

You sound well educated and articulate and I'm glad there are more like you on our side.

I also get sick of the "rape, baby killing, God kills" argument.
