@mapleavenue77 It is indeed, It was such a long ranger. Rare birds. Not many left out there other than Iran Air and Nasa. Always had that interesting flap config which were odd compared to the 747-100 and 200 at the time.
They always take off into the ocean...and yeah a L-1011 was a heavy lug getting airborne...but man were they smooth compared to a 747 or DC-10.
Too bad, the super expensive spare parts ran out on that plane....who knows...newer more efficient turbo fans might have been retrofitted and they might still might be flying?
This must be old because of the L-1011 (which they barely fly today) and the old Delta and the old United Airlines logo. Nice video! I love the L-1011!
Wow, if you look at 0:26-0:27, you can see that this was a downwind takeoff. I wonder if they did that because the runway direction was oriented toward the destination of the flight?
@Coaljet, you're right. Right before this clip there was a VARIG 747-300 that departed inland, all of the other aircraft departed with the wind which is odd.
@Coaljet Who knows, the wind could have been calm, and it wouldn't have made a different, but I have no info on how LAX was managed in the 90's, but It wasn't good for sure. The most RWY and Traffic incursions in USA were in LAX in the 90's. Messed up ATC, it could be anything why it took of into the wind. It unusual but not illegal, though. Sorry for the response 1+ year later.
@loaferguy73, no problem man. I'd love to go spotting with you sometime!
@QuickBurn70, I've seen on a few of his videos where a USAir aircraft has the PSA paint scheme not too long after the takeover/killing. He started filming in early 1989 and PSA went out in 88 so no actual PSA or Western because they went out in 86.
Is that a United 747 SP in the background at 0.45?
Great vid!

Wow! Amazing retro vid! This must be from the 80's if not early 90s at most. I barely remember LAX without the current control tower.
