He then realized that skating isn't paying the rent for his mom, so he turns to dealing drugs and gang bangin to make money. He shaves his head so he can fit in better with the dogtown thugs. The scene shows him disassociating himself with the childlike skateboarder he was and facing the harsh realities of life, and what he has to do to provide for his mom.

Enough said... now, there's this one scene in the film "Empire Records" (1995) in which Robin Tunney (as "Deb") shaves her head out at her workplace, a record store. Two of my favorite head-shaving scenes ever!! Well, without forgetting Bob Geldof (as 'Pink') in Pink Floyd's "The Wall" (1980)... we need more actors who commit to their craft in storytelling and have enough balls to do things like that as these three, we really do.
