You were probably playing Punch Mania, which is the original Japanese version. Fighting Mania is the English language version which came a bit later, but as far as I know the gameplay remains the same...
@Hadoking I have also played punchmania 2 and it has the story of Hokuto no Ken 2 plus Fightingmania. What is nice with Punchmania 2 is that there is a choose your enemy mode and the you have to conserve your life just like Rei's Path. I was able to beat almost all but Kai-oh, because the machine malfunctioned after I played.
I so miss this game. Here in the Philippines I only managed to find one. . . and it suddenly gone. WTF! I mean, honestly, because of this game my reflexes became faster and my skills in Modern Arnis became better. No kidding!
Seriously though, I miss the living HELL out of this game. They had it at my arcade several years back, and I played it a few times a day on my way home from work. And this was BEFORE I had any clue what Hokuto No Ken was all about.
The character you play depends on the path you choose. They're all Kenshiro except for Path 5 were you play as Rei and Path 7 where you play as Roah :)
@Hadoking Thanks so much. I actually wanted to play the game again I visited my local arcade and it was gone! and like every arcade doesn't have it anymore.. Know a arcade where they have it or a way to buy it for yourself? Because honestly.. I want to play the game again only thing I remember is me throwing punches a lot lol.
THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!!! I played this only once in an arcade. But when I came back few weeks later (one of the pads was broken too, so easy was it) it was gone. I loved it. Remember seeing someone play and lose on 2nd easy setting fight. I beat easy first try. But so fun.
I live in shitty Doncaster, used to play this in arcade as a kid, I was only one that could do it on hardest difficulty, think I got about 136 hits on Kenshiro before. All the local chavs failed on easiest difficulty because they thought it was a strength competition.
I miss playing that, I used to travel to Sheffield to play it when the arcade in Doncaster got raken down but the arcade in Sheffield did also.
I was never a fan of using the gloves though even though my knuckles always bled.
same problem here, there was only one cab in my town and is now gone. i play this game since 2000 and i grew up with it. i only played it during vacations, and i reached this second hard mode but never finished it, i tought it was impossible until now. and here too there were local folks who punched the pads with strength and lose in the easy mode
ye same problem too they only had 1 of these games in my county (as far as i know) and now the only other place i know where one is in spain! and i really loved that game.I gre up with it.
nearly every person i see playing this game(in my city) plays normal or easy and punches it with strength and lose.i saw someone playing it on hard and lost in 5 seconds.
I could have sworn these fights went on longer than that when I played this years ago; maybe it's a perspective thing. Personally I thought the second to last guy on Hard (Ryuga?) was the hardest guy in the game.
Your right. I work at an arcade that has this game for play. Each fight was longer than what you had seen here. I tried to see what was up by losing health such as this fellow person, and got the same lengthy results.
I have also beaten this game my own-self. And I do exceptionally well.
Starting new comment chain because I am currently questioning whether Fudoh is TRULY the hardest fight in the game. Did hardest today and dropped him first try..lost to Kenshiro by like 10 punches on special..it was just too much since I wasn't really contemplating beating Fudoh.
Basically what Im saying is his pattern is REALLY easy since all he does is 6 pad...unlike others 'Like fricken ryuga' who has rather difficult patterns which takes a while to pin down..but I do agree..Kenshiro is DEFINATELY easier than Fudoh..just the special.
Decided to comment this at last since I now had a 'feel' for hardest. Defeated Toki (after how many tries?) and thought 'Oh yeah making progress!'...then Jyuza came along and the rest was history....
Ah well, Raoh will DEFINATELY be downed this weekend (along with Freaking Yuda, Never got round to finishing Rei's Stages) then concentrating on this.
Good luck with downing the first Hard path. It's easily the most fun path to plough through and I'm guessing it'll be the first time you'll see the end credits first hand - very satisfying :D
I can sometimes perfect Jagi and Amiba on a good run, and I once even managed to perfect Toki, but I'm sad to say that Ryuga does still catch me out on occasion. There's just no leeway with the bastard, start bad and he will take you out :(
An SS Rank for Rei's Path is my next Mania Mission!
Good luck with that man. SS Rei means you virtually can not take dmg because since it carries over it basically makes a 'perfect' score for Health Defunct.
And Yeah I got a feeling if I see the end credits I will be jumping up and down with my first in the air screaming 'I HAVE CONQUERED THE HEAVENS!'
shit...u just gave me a full dosage of nolstagia dude. Used to spent a few bucks on this back in the day. Will nvr forget freakin "6 padded" jyuza & fudoh eyy. ;)
this path is for no beginners a true nightmarish path of oppoment that would considerably be suicide to battle even a guy of my experiance of this game never stood a chance in this path i defeated one oppoment in this story and i got defeated by the next

i thought i was the best dude your Exellent at this game but still not as good as me by the way were did you buy this i thought you were playing this in the arcade lol
woah, so with the punch mania 2 security cartridge, you're able to play it on your current machine? or is there more to it? good job on the completion btw.
Thanks. As far as I've been able to ascertain, with a Punch Mania 2 disc and security cartridge I should be able to upgrade my machine. The only possible issue is that the cartridge may register itself to a specific machine when used and therefore may not be compatible with another cabinet. It all seems to be rather tricky :/
Anybody got the credits music for this game? It's so awesome... but can't find it anywhere
