@WWS2286 Just did some quick research... looks like this one is the twin engine SuperCobra, not the single engine Cobra. The AH-1Z, however has a 4-blade head, which this one did not. Thanks for the heads up!
CJ is correct the AH-1Z has a 4 bladed rotor system this here is a later incarnation of the AH-1W "Whiskey" Cobra, the AH-1Z is built of the Whiskey platform so looks similar but the biggest giveaway is the 4 bladed rotor which this clearly does not have
This is a AH-1W from HMLA-773. My best friend was the S2 Chief when they were based at NAS Willow Grove. They were forced to move to Johnstown,PA and then just moved again to Joint Base McGuire. The unit showed up as HMLA-773 Red Dogs and then switched to HMLA-775 Coyotes and then back to HMLA-773 Red Dog. They along with HMH-772 are now flying from McGuire AFB. MAG-49's other unit is HMM-774 Wild Geese based at Chambers Field onboard NS Norfolk, VA.
@WWS2286 This is an AH-1W Super Cobra. It's a twin engine, same as the earlier T model and te new Z model. The Zulu has 4 main/tail rotor blades while this W, has 2/2.
I know. I was sitting at my desk at work and heard this fly over. I grabbed my camera and drove over to the airport/museum. This heli had stopped for fuel. It was pretty awesome to hear it start up in person. Those rotor blades are almost 3 feet wide. Incredible sound.
The American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, PA is Having Rotorfest on October 3rd and 4th. Big helicopter air show
Nice AH-1 Whiskey.

Did you know that Cobra is basically a Huey with smaller body? That is why it sounds like a Huey.

how long does it take to get an AH-1 from peace, sitting on the tarmac, to being on the attack?

I dont kno why but CH47 chinooks are always flying over my house.Which feels like its going to collapse because of the huge a** rotors & engines.
JLennon1998 1 year ago 8
@JLennon1998 I don't know why either. But the AH-1 Cobras with their 3ft chord blades make almost as much, if not more, noise than the CH-47.
CJVideoProductions 1 year ago 3
@CJVideoProductions Its the blades, back when they designed the rotor blades, they never thought about noise reduction.
Similarly, the UH-!H sounds pretty close to the CH-47

Look at the tail rotor when he lifts off, seems like slow motion
longsweep1 2 years ago
@longsweep1 Yeah, that video was taken with a Nikon D90, which doesn't do well with fast moving objects. It makes them wlobble/bend.
CJVideoProductions 2 years ago
@CJVideoProductions whoa, I was wondering while the tail rotor was bending like that! haha

@longsweep1 It looks like it's gonna bend !
