I live in a small town, and I'm tourterd at school all day, in art class people were trying to throw bits of corn down my shirt, I got hit in the back of my head, and I get called "EMO" alot, I'm not emo. I got a horrible look from an old lady cuz my hair was pink, and people hate my art, cuz it's dark.....How do I get into the GLF?
Listening to your testimony got me thinking... I live in what one would call small-town America, and nothing of the sort ever happened to me. People around here just tend to talk behind peoples' backs instead of full-out bully them. I don't doubt for a second that it happens elsewhere, though.
omg.. i agree... i went to pick up my brother at his school (all grade school) and i was dressed in my usual outfits. Then some chicks say some shit to me and laugh the walk away... like they were dressed like hoes... people shouldn't judge.. even if they look stupid..
i dont like to label myself but kids at my school think im goth. i dont really get bothered as much (probably because the rest of the people are too self consumed to even care about others around them). so i guess im lucky. but i do understand where you come from. most people have trouble getting past our image, which leads them to assume things. this is wrong!
Its horrible, the way people dress people judge on :( we're all the same, so we should be treated equally. I was a goth for 3 years and I didn't listen to what others thought. I couldn't take it anymore, the teachers didn't do shit.
i agree with everything you just said.i'm 15 nearly 16 getting home education now cause i was bullied the way i dress i had to actully move out of scotland and move to england cause it was that bad.i got my head flushed down the toilet, pushed down the stairs, called freak and stones lobed at it was so horrid it was like a bad nightmare.
God bless your soul. What you went through must have scarred you. It just saddens me when people just act like that mainly. I now go to a public school where most people are "Ghetto" so I don't have much friends as i should since I dress differently also. But I hope you could live the rest of your life without worrying about your past.
I am waiting for this video to load...but right off the bat I must say...you're eyes and hair are AMAZING. I had hair that color. I miss it :(
But, because the corporate world won't even look at you if you don't look "normal", and the fact that I need to help pay my elderly parents rent, I had to give it up for a more subdue color-black.
But if things ever change, hot pink will be back again. Back to stay.
I'm not really goth anymore but when I was 13 I was full goth and was called a witch and pushed down the stairs. hurt like hell but i got right up and punched the bitch who did it.
i love your eyes... I was gothic all through high school because i was going through a mental breakdown. Dressing in all black was my way of expressing myself. i was bullied and alienated and even the head master/principal was picking on me constantly. i was suspended all the time. its 2008 now, who the fuck cares what people wear. as long as your not hurting anyone, people should mind their own business!!!
I've never understand how giving into peer pressure stops bulling. I did that for a brief period of time and it never works. Yet close-minded adults keep telling you to do that.
*blinks* What was I going to say...? Oh yeah! You are a beautiful human being no matter what color your hair is or how many peircings you have or what clothes you are wearing.
People in general are pretty crap to anything or anyone that they don't understand. The saddest part is: that they get away with it because they can find at least 100 other people who are just as confused as they are and who are willing to help spread the hate...
There is no such a thing as freaking "normal" (This goes to the people saying goths need to be normal)Normal is nothing, have people not realized, there is no such thing as normal, everyone is different. The word, and image of "normal" is just a figment of your own imagination. I'm 13 years old, and my friends are all different, gothic, preppy, and what you'd like to call "normal" and we all get along, it'd be awesome if you all could get along like we do.

Okay, I don't understand why you can't just be normal, or at least dress normal? The reason why goths have such a bad rep is because they are all freaks. Sorry, but its true.
Are you normal? Is the way you dress the 'normal way'?
What if I was to say that the way I think and dress is normal but you're abnormal? Who makes that decision?
I self identify as 'weird' in this video to illustrate my point, that that is how I was viewed as a teen, however, I also know a large group of people who view me as normal and those people who harassed me in school as abnormal.
I am not of the belief that I can change your mind, but question yourself.
How are you defining 'goth'? Does wearing black eyeliner do it? Do they have to have piercings? Do they have to agree that they are goths?
How are you defining 'freak'? Is a freak someone who is different to you? Or to the average mainstream? Is just dressing differently enough to be suddenly freakish?
And how have you met 'all goths'? That's like saying 'all women are...' 'all black people are...' and equally as difficult to support.
If somebody came up to you tomorrow and said 'I don't like your jeans, you're a freak' or even maybe attacked you, would you think 'Oh no, I'd better change into jeans that person likes better'?
Or would you think, 'who the hell does that person think they are that they have any right to criticise what I wear?'
I would never dream of going up to someone on the street and harassing them for their hair or their clothing.
It's just plain manners. I only expect to be shown the same respect.
You're using that word 'normal' again, 'dress in normal attire', what is that? Jeans and T-Shirt maybe? But if I'm not wearing the right labels and so I get harassed for that do I have to go and buy more expensive clothes?
Do I dye my hair or take my piercings out too? Because apparently that offends some people.
Where do I draw the line? When I have become 95% somebody I don't even recognise, can I stop? At what point will I be 'normal' enough?
I'm an adult and still get made fun of. People try to keep their kids from me because of the way I look. It's ridiculous. Kids that live across the street from me and my husband, make rude comments about me every time they see me and their parents say nothing. People need to teach their kids to be more open minded.
Hit the wrong button and managed to delete your other comment! Ooops! I got the necklace from an alternative mall, it was a university graduation gift to myself. You can probably get them online too. You look so cute and pretty! I can't imagine why anyone would find your appearance bad!
Thanks, I'll probably look for one. I currently live on a Military base so I get quite a few odd stares. Lol. Thank you, by the way, for making this video. I think people should really open their minds to what's going on around them and be more accepting.
I went through similar bully problems at a catholic school. Only when it threatened violence did the teachers "suddenly" notice the bullies carrying on.
Ironically enough, I switched to a public school and started hanging out with a group of goths. For 2 years I never heard a single comment against me, or my group. The teachers would give detention for saying "that's so gay". Just goes to show what a school can do if they "want" to. Certainly a catholic school wouldn't help goths or gays.
i suppose nobody can be there real self without getting labled or bullied for something...looking at this makes me realise how lucky i am compared to you!yeah i get bullied for who i am but i stand uo for myself and the school has cameras and stuf so it makes me feel safer...
btw your piercing are kick ass! and your hair is FUCKING AWESOME!
I didn't really get into Goth or Rock till College and only had a few run in's with trownies but i get what ur saying. Stand up to bullies. Now i'm in the Army and i wonder if i'll get abuse for wearing my uniform in public. By the way i like Pitchshifter too.
People are scared of differences! Many people think if we arn't just like them, we are freaks and therefore stupid. There are many "goth" labled people who are disscriminated against every day. Why do we have to like holister clothes to fit in? I am going to be me. NO one can make me change myself. i love your hair!!!!! and wonderful video! thanks so much!!
oh and also, being a christian, many people think "goths" are evil and can not be a christian. hey! people can like skulls, black, and graveyards and still be a christian. Jesus loves EVERYONE. i'm not gonna go worship graveyards or something! ♥SMILE! JESUS LOVES YOU!♥
I was watching a video about poor Sophie when i came across your videos, and basically you took the words out of my mouth.
generally im peaceful person, but these scumbags only speak one language violce. im a 15 year old girl from a small town full of them, luckily i have lots of other alternative friends, but i know its a matter of time until they get one of us alone. i just want to say that we do have to stick together, goths, emos, hippies, it dosnt matter. we're all "freaks" to them.
i liked it alot when you said the part about if someone was running at you, you would run away, but if u were forced to you would fight back. alot of 'goth' people say they'd like fucking kick the shit out of everyone who puts them down, and thats not a good way to live. starting fights about stuff like that isnt the right thing to do.
I am soo sorry u had to go through all of that...I went through some stuff like that, but nothing as severe. I'm glad that u didn't change urself for them!
It's sad what happened to you , unluckily you're not the only one .
People really need to be educated that we're not the freaks , I mean we're just dressing different , we're not the monsters . Monsters are the people who beat up goth couples , killing them or just picking on them . Or hurt any people actually .
im not a goth but i really do hate the fact of discrimination. i go to school where there are goths and i hate when people make fun of them. I have learned that they are very nice people, veeeeeeeeery nice people, probably the nicest people Ive ever known. but discrimination does get on my nervs. im a black 15 yr old girl, although i have never experienced it i know it exists and it needs to be stopped!!! i dont really realize the point of hating sumone by their image!!!
(((hugs))) my dear.. ty for sharing your story with us... we hope and pray to open the eyes of those within society who would rather sweep things under the rug than hear our voices... you are amazing... ~ <3 Gothy
thats so crap, iv bin so lucky in my adventurers and have only bin in a couple of scraps! but i was different at school, but fortunately i was friends with the hard nuts, people thort i was pretty strange kid but i didnt start expressing myself through fashion till the finale year but i think people would have exspect it of me really, but it was a ruff school. had alot of hate over the years, but iv bin luck to solve probles such as the scallies back home by talking to them, crashing ciggs etc
I can totally relate to the stuff u went through. My school was exactly the same. I agree with and understand EVERYTHING you said. i think ur gorgeous and an amazing person, I totally admire you for getting through school and still having the balls to be yourself. I admire you for being able to use ur experience to raise awareness for other people. My school was awful too My ex even had his hair set on fire (and lets face it, he had alot of hair!) we would often get bottles of piss thrown at us.
That sucks that all that shit happened to you. Society really pisses me off. We'll show them, however, that we are people, too. Thank you for supporting the GLF.
I fucking love you. So headstrong! I really admire the way you didn't change for them twats. It's their problem, and the school you went to was awful in terms of predjudice. Stay strong!

Great video!
Thank you for sharing us your story...
It's sad what happened to you , unluckily you're not the only one .
People really need to be educated that we're not the freaks , I mean we're just dressing different , we're not the monsters . Monsters are the people who beat up goth couples , killing them or just picking on them . Or hurt any people actually .
PS:I fucking love your hair XD
Best Wishes,
Darkquette

im not a goth but i really do hate the fact of discrimination. i go to school where there are goths and i hate when people make fun of them.
