This show has helped kill music. It's emphasis on the singer instead of the music, the band, and the lyrics has led to showy singing with looks and "performance art" considered far more important than they should be. It used to be that you listened to music not watched performances. All these glitzy young robots do is sing other people's songs while "acting". Watch any Eric Burdon performance of this and you'll see he let's his soul do the performing without thinking about the craft.

Al created an insatiable demand for the performance side of the music. The Studios and MTV changed how people listened to and viewed music with the birth of the music video. I do agree that some artists simply can’t sing, so they use other visual candy to sell music. Haley can sing, and she is no robot.

Glorious. She totally blew me away with this performance. After this it was "adios Durbin" for me as far as who the best Idol of the season is. And this coming from a hard rock/metal fan who's naturally partial to his music.

I had no problem with most of his song choices except maybe for the 30 Seconds to Mars song which I didn't care for. He can't sing hard rock and heavy metal every week. He only wanted to give them some exposure to Idol's young audience, who otherwise would not have given it a chance. My favs of his were actually softer songs like My Guitar Gently Weeps and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.

Haley did the same thing. She exposed Idol's young audience to LedZep and HOTRS.
